DR1 is like Ace Attorney crossed with Battle Royale, some interesting things there but personally I wasn't that fond of it

It's a pretty straight forward visual novel game with some point & click elements. Very zany detective/courtroom drama plot. Most of the series is easily emulatable too, give the first game a look if it sounds interesting to you.

Danganronpa is a PSP game.
Both Danganronpa and Super Danganronpa 2 are on steam now as well.
There is no such thing as a vita emulator (yet).
It doesn't take much to make the game look good. All characters are high-res sprites, so they will look good anyway. The 3D backgrounds can be improved through the emulation settings in PPSSPP like internal resolution.

It's a game that's not for everyone really. You either like this sort of thing or you don't. Maybe look up the beginning part of a playthrough of it on youtube just to see what it's like?

I played both of them. They definitely have their problems, but I love them both. If you're into murder mysteries and crazy over-the-top anime characters, it should pull you in.
You shouldn't play 2 without playing 1 first. 2 references 1 heavily at some point in the game, and you will be lost.
I played the first one on PSP though, so I can't really vouch for the steam release. But the PC release for 2 is pretty good, only very minor issues.
I just now beat DR2, where do I go from here? Isn't there some DR3 coming out and DRV3?

I haven't played it personally and don't intend to. The DR3 anime is actually going to be split into 2 arcs. The future volume focuses on Makoto and the new cast while the despair volume focuses on the past of Hajime and theother remnants of despair.

The anime skips on too much. It's not an ideal substitute for the game. Also all of the character development is sacrificed on the mystery and plot, and the structure the anime used for the episodes makes it more difficult to care about the characters when they aren't very fleshed out.
