Such a lust for landscapes. It gets better when you're 30 hours in, when you get a Skell. Also dont forget to get affinity with Gwin. At least 1 Heart should do.
I really enjoy doing side quest so that's why Im never bored with this game.

What level are you now? If Im not mistaken, which Division you join helps you in levelling up faster. I noticed Elma levels up when I salvage wreckage and Lin levels up when I discover new sites.
The first item company, Sakuraba, sells good items for early game. You can invest in that first and make a chain with your probes.

The OP in the generals should provide you with enough info. Also, by doing some affinity missions and side quest you get from people marked with '?', you can unlock more Arms Manufacture, so it's really neat how the game rewards you this way, plus some quest dialogues are kinda funny which has no LETS EAT TATSU joke.

How should I play this game? I got to the point where I could at least change the way my character looks...
But how exactly should I move forward with combat? What's the idea behind it? It's NOT like XC at all. I was working on mastering longsword and... Whatever comes with it. Photon sabers looked cool from what I saw so I wanted to do that next. Still, it seems like I'm fighting things inefficiently.

It plays more like an offline MMO. You should learn about secondary cooldowns, Arts and your Skills. Secondary cooldown is like those green rings surrounding your arts, you get bonuses when it's done charging giving you bonus damage etc.

For my Lin, I maxed her skill which gives bonus health and now she has 9k HP and she just tanks. Elma's more of a glass cannon for me.
