max out the perks for automatic weapons/single shot weapons/sneak/ninja/silenced weapons
sneak headshots with that gauss and those perks will one shot almost everything in the whole game, with the added benefit of a silencer not alerting every other enemy around you
Best weapon I had was an Automatic Laser Rifle with a bleed legendary effect and the burn attachment. The DPS was fucking crazy and would kill a Behemoth fast than the Fat Man

also why would you ever use the combat rifle when the assault rifle is better in every way? 5.56 ammo becomes common around level 25-30 as well so you can start buying it from every trader you see

my main weapon isn't even in the base game.
i'm using the Buster Sword.
basically you put 3 gems in it and each gem has different effects. there's a lifesteal proc, fire, lightning, ice a chaos one that does random crap on hit and some buff ones.
so i just carry around 2 of these with different gem setups, one for DPS and one for longevity.
my melee build is the most RPG thing in this game.

The save issue was fucking stupid. I can get only being able to save when no enemies are nearby, having no autosaves, that kind of thing. But sleeping to save is retarded.
It would be fine if you had a bedroll that you could deploy and sleep in whenever you wanted to save as long as no enemies were nearby. But you don't.
