Do you play inverted, /v/?

Are left and right inverted as well? That's the logic you're using.
>>
>>338281597

Only the brain damaged play inverted

No because I'm not a dinosaur.

>>338281597
Yes, but not for that reason in your pic

I started replaying emulated FFXII the other day, and fuck me if they didn't flip the horizontal axis and not include any options to change it.

I guess I can just adjust the control mapping, but I can't imagine playing it on console on release now.

And what if it's not an option in the inevitable HD remaster?
>>
>>338281597

Yes I play inverted in every first-person game and I've done so since i was a kid

Not sure why people get so triggered over this.

Inverted keyboard for flight sims makes perfect sense, inverted mouse is full retard.
>>
>>338282540
This. Inverted is for controllers, not computer mice.
>>
by that analogy i assume you also invert horizontal aswell?
>>
>>338282691
That's silly.
Just invert vertical look and it's fine. It's like flying a plane.

Yes

When you look down, You're moving your head forward. When you look up, you're pulling your head back.

Inverted makes more sense than non-inverted desu senpai.

I remember reading that some researchers think it's just whatever you were exposed to first in terms of 3d movement and analogue sticks. So a lot of people, most of their early experiences were with flight simulators. Hence the desire to invert the controls.

It makes perfect sense to me. I invert, and most of my early experience with 3D controlled with a stick of some sort was indeed flight simulators.
>>
Move up to look up.
Move down to look down.

Who are these inverted retards I want to fight them.
>>
>>338283281
Think of it as "controlling the camera" instead of "controlling the eyes" and it makes more sense.

The only times I like using inverted is when flying any type of plane or helicopter in a game because in Operation Flashpoint it was like that by default and it stuck with me.

Also in Mount & Blade's combat because I think it makes more sense to move your mouse to where your character's arm is going to move and then release it rather than move it in the opposite direction, only when attacking though, I prefer to use blocking non-inverted.
>>
>>338283384
oh, then eyes up = look up = push stick up.
that makes sense
>>
I use inverted for first person and normal for third person

It's really not that big a deal
>>
>>338282816
> It's like flying a plane.
So in what FPS games you turn by rolling to the side, "pitching" parallel to the ground and rolling back?

Inverted flight sim master race

/v/ is my safezone

>>338283293
This pretty much. I've been playing with inverted controls since the 90's so "normal" controls feel weird to me. But I didn't play many flight sims, it was mostly quake and hl.
Not sure why I inverted to begin with. Maybe because I was playing on someone else's computer and didn't know I could change the controls.

>>338283490
Well the up/down is like a plane... turning not so much.

I don't have all the answers, man.
>>
Inverted vertical when I'm using a pad.
Non-inverted when using kb/m.
It just works.
>>
>>338283709
>/v/ is my safezone
great, your opinion is wrong and in fact inferior.
this is objective truth and have done nothing to prove me wrong.
>>
>>338283540
I think this also is the case for Jak. Not sure...
>>
>>338281597
I have no idea anymore.
Sometimes I think one game calls it inverted while for another game it's non-inverted
>>
>>338283145

that's the most convoluted gay shit I've ever heard

It makes infinitely more sense to think of aim control as the direction that your LOS is pointing

When you want somebody to look up, you don't say "please tilt the back of your head down." You say "look up."
>>
>>338283709
>But I didn't play many flight sims, it was mostly quake and hl.

That is sort of the corollary. Many of the earliest FPS had inverted controls by default for this exact reason. It was just what people were used to. People might not remember just how many flight simulators there were back then.
>>
>>338283815
I didn't know we were arguing about something.
What was your position again?
>>
>>338281690
>>338282691
For a floating third person camera, that's exactly what I do. Up moves the camera up (looking down), down moves the camera down (looking up), left moves the camera left (looking right), right moves the camera right (looking left).

I use normal X and Y for first person or close third person camera.
>>
>>338283827
non-inverted
>move stick Up = look Up
>move stick Left = look Left

inverted
>move stick Up = look Down
>move stick Left = look Right
>>
>>338281597
by this logic left/right should be some sort of lean
>>
>>338281597
hell nah I hate inverted.
>>
>>338283979
you're a strange person, but your reasoning is flawless
>>
if you do inverted for anything other than a flying sim you're retarded
>>
>>338281597
Yes.

I was a dumb kid and never checked game options for the invert toggle. There was a game I really enjoyed that had inverted as the default, so I forced myself to get used to it.

I can't play non inverted now.
>>
>>338284231

I use inverted and guarantee I'm better than you at FPS.
>>
>>338281597
I used to, but at some point I switched. I think it was around the time I started playing more console shootan. Still use inverted in games that involve flying though.
>>
>>338281597
Sure do my man.
>>
But the camera is mounted on the gun not the head in most fps.
>>
I play inverted only for piloting.
>>
>>338283979
This makes sense and is satisfying in some games.
In just about any game I prefer:
Up: look down
Down: look up
Right: look right
Left: look left

Inverting horizontal controls only feels good if it's a third person game that doesn't require constant control of the camera.
>>
>>338284345
So what you're saying is that you're a retarded savant
>>
>>338284590
>playing any other fps when the genre was perfected in X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
>>
For looking up/down with a camera, sure, why not.
For pointing at objects, like shooting your gun, it would be logical to move your cursor up with upward movement of the controller.
>>
>>338284231
>people aren't allowed to have preferences
(you)
>>
>>338284178
>>338284706
I grew up preferring inverted Y for first person and close third person, but because games tend to default to normal Y (and some don't even offer an option!), I adapted to normal Y.

Inverted controls for a floating camera make so much more sense to me that I'm seriously thrown off if either axis is not inverted. I think Super Mario 64 had an inverted X axis on the C buttons, right?
>>
>playing first person games with a controller
>>
>>338286554
I invert on mouse, never on controller.
>>
>>338281690
The Y axis mimics a neck by having limited range of momvement.
The X axis doesn't mimic a neck as it spins 360 degress.
Y is neck, X is feet.
>>
>>338283896
But quake didn't even have vertical mouse look enabled by default. There is a reason it's called inverted and not default.
