Depends on how you look at it. MoP and WoD were the equivalent of anime fillers, the playerbase did not expect or ask for them.
The original idea for the appropriate expansion after Cata was a South Seas expansion, because we expected to deal with the aftermath of what was basically an assault by N'zoth through Deathwing and we had gotten a good taste of the naga in cata.
Or alternatively an emerald dream expansion in between that considering N'zoth is responsible for the nightmare.
Then, after dealing with Azshara and N'zoth, we'd be introduced to a legion expansion where we'd face Sargeras.
Blizzard knew this, the forums were constantly ablaze with the predictions, they knew that with only 3 big bads left that expansion potential was basically done, unless they made shit up.

The problem is the focus it's being given - if you're going to give Ashbringer to people, don't make it out to seem like they are the one true chosen wielders of the blade. Just make them do something suitably heroic and now they have their hands on it, same as if they had looted the weapon off some boss corpse or got it as a quest reward.
The 'chosen one' stuff is the bane of MMO storytelling. I don't have a problem with wielding these legendary items, but don't make it out to seem like the PLAYER is legendary, as well.
Also, if a Paladin with Ashbringer fights a DK with Apocalypse, why doesn't Ashbringer shatter the DK sword?

no. it was really really bad overall.
initially it was a mixed bag. it had its downsides (remade zones and quests that were undertuned to the point of leveling becoming absolutely braindead), but it certainly had a lot of upsides to more than balance that out (amazing 5man experience, really solid initial raid tier, really well done class overhauls, overall very satisfying endgame content)
but that was just the initial state. if you also factor in the patches they delivered, it ends up being shit. less content than any previous expansion, fucking lfr, rehashes everywhere, and dragon soul was the worst raid ever.

So some(not all) planets are actually baby titans? the Void lords throw old gods randomly into the great dark from the Void so that maybe one will land on a baby titan planet and grow it into a void titan. The void lords cannot enter the great dark so this is how they get in via tossing old gods.
The N'aaru counter the void lords but don't necessarily oppose them, The N'aaru oppose the Burning legion instead. The burning legion wants to make it so the void lords can never enter the great dark by killing all planets so old gods can't grow on them. And the old Titans (all killed by sargeras) wanted to just find baby titan planets with old gods growing and basically "turn them off" by jailing them under the surface so the baby titan could grow normally?
What the fuck is the point of the N'aaru and the light? And if light and void smashing together in the twisting nether creates Fel magic where does Arcane magic come from?
