Tidus really grew as a character during FFX, by the end he's one of the best examples of a tragic protagonist. At first, he's a happy-go-luck kind of guy that only wants to go home, then gets embroiled in Yuna's pilgrimage. By then, you think that Yuna really will die and you'll save her at the last minute, but really it's Tidus that needs help. You wait for the deus ex machina that will save him, and it never comes.
I like how the game sets up Yuna to be the tragic heroine, but then switches that role with Tidus. And of course, Auron.

Outside of steal, he was worthless from the start. Tidus and Wakka consistently did more damge and had stronger overdrives, all of his abilities were outdone by another party member with better stats for them. When Auron and eventually Rikku show up he just stops being wroth thinking about. He's only worth using in the late-late game because he can just be a duplicate of Rikku or Auron, but not as good as either.

The game tells little bits of story for every character here and there. Kimahri is very important for the setting of the story, but once you leave Mt. Gagazet, his role ends.

Kimahri fought Biran, Biran beat him up, Kimahri didn't give up, Biran broke his horn. Kimahri left Mt. Gagazet.
When he was near Bevelle, a dying Auron asked him to take Braska's daughter as far away from Bevelle as he could, before dying (that's where he knows Auron from).
When he took Yuna to Besaid, at first he left her in the care of the temple. However, Yuna didn't want him to go, and thus, Kimahri stayed.
A few Ronso in Mt. Gagazet say that Kimahri started talking less once his horn was broken, he wasn't as reticent as when you meet him.
Also, Kimahri says he never climbed Mt.Gagazet before, which probably means the Ronso live at the bottom.

Actually, Braska wasn't always a summoner. It seems he was either a monk or a high-ranked Yevonite. I think it's Rin that says Braska always went to Home to bridge the gap between Yevon and Al Bhed, and that's when he started to fall for Yuna's mother. She died during one of Sin's attacks (she already lived with Braska, not at Home anymore). That's what made Braska want to go on a pilgrimage, to avenge his wife.

Kimahri is generally good for utility spells before Rikku gets access to end game items for mixes. He's the only one with acces to a party heal and buff. He can also take advantage of enemies vulnerability to elemental and status effects.

Lulu and Yuna are my favorites in FFX. It's disappointing how useless Lulu becomes once Yuna learns black magic. Another complaint I have is the fact that you can only use mix when you have your overdrive.
