Anyone tried Far Harbor yet? Is it any good? Fallout 4 thread.
>>
It's slightly better than the steaming turd that is the base game, but that's not saying much.
>>
>>338224625
Only an hour in so far. Not gonna a lie, the story actually has me really intriguied this time.
>>
>>338225072
Fuck you. If you didn't like FO4 or the DLC you wouldn't be playing them.
>>
>>338225208
I pirated them
They're worth the price of free, when you can mod them.
If I only had consoles I wouldn't have bothered
>>
>>338224625
>Non meme/non generic /v/ hate answer incoming:

>It's a really good DLC.

I've honestly sunk in about 23 hours into the DLC (beta user) and I have not completely done everything. There are a lot of locations, and the quest line is pretty damn good if you do it right. It's worth the money, that's for sure. It really does give the Point Lookout vibe in some respects, but it does have it's own feel as well. I have to say, the atmosphere of the Island is really well done. If you have the money, try it out.
>>
I just started a new playthrough. I really like the aesthetic of the place. I have no idea where the overarching story will go, but it reminds me of that movie from a few years back- the fog or whatever in a new england town, and there's "something" hiding in it.

I'm playing on very hard though and everything is ridiculously bullet spongy. I hate that I might need to turn down the difficulty, but I'm always heading back to town for more ammo, it's retarded. I wish survival mode was less stupid about some things and I would play that (oh you wanted to save by napping for three hours in a sleeping bag? Enjoy your -50% ap regen illness)
>>
>>338225654
What level do I have to be in order to visit/progress on it?
>>
>>338225942
I don't think it's a level cap (not really sure), but I do know that you have to complete one of the main story quests with Nick Valentine. After that, the quest just shows up.
>>
Better than base game.

Writing is a lot better, Far Harbor is an excellently-designed location, and there are multiple turnouts for all 3 factions.

Basically an example as to how the main game should have been structured.

Only thing missing is the reimplemented RPG mechanics they removed.
>>
How many more DLCs are there?

When is the GOTY edition coming?
>>
>>338226070
Do you need to take Nick? If not, who would you recommend?
>>
>>338226097

Also, make sure you bring Nick or else you'll miss out on some really interesting origin story bits between Dima and Nick.
>>
>>338226070

I played the game just far enough to get to the fort you find kellogg in. I went back to Diamond city to stock up and got the lead in quest announcement then. I think I was 10 or 11, but it might be story driven.

Nick isn't mandatory, but I think he's the "expected" companion, as the reason you go to far harbour is to help him with a job.
>>
>>338225857

Been playing on Survival.

Such a fucking pain in the ass. It's mostly not being able to savescum - let alone save at all.
>>
>>338226172
I know they have more DLC planned. Some of it was leaked as being more shitty ass settlement items that no one should have to pay for. Hopefully they'll be making more Far Harbor tier DLC.
>>
>>338226192

Game dangled a new follower in front of me right as I entered the synth HQ. Should I reload?
>>
>>338226182
Like >>338226210 stated, Nick is not required. There is a new companion that the DLC offers. You can take any companion from the main game you'd like as well. I personally didn't use any companions, but it's up to your personal choice as to whether or not you want Nick or someone else. There were actually a few moments in the DLC where I think I could have heard some more dialogue if Nick was there, so maybe you could try taking him for that.

>Constantly re-start to try out different builds
>Farthest I've gotten in the MSQ was rescuing Nick
>Explored darn near 50% of the map tho
>Stopped playing months ago, told myself I'd make a new character on survival and get balls-deep into it
>Can't get into it, I just close the game after playing for 5 minutes

I've ruined the game for myself bros..I don't know if I'll ever get to play the DLC at this rate.

I honestly blame mods as well. I play for a bit and think about changing something in-game and I fiddle with some mods for a bit then lose interest and go do something else.
>>
>>338226278

Yeah, I started my save on survival and turned it off after a few hours. It was just too tedious.

I really liked the damage output levels and don't mind the only saves for sleeping, but the illnesses are over the top. The water and food isn't too bad and adrenaline is an interesting mechanic, but catching parasites every time I kill a mongrel or getting an illness every time I sleep for less than 8 hours is fucking stupid.

Also, with the massive carryweight reduction and complete exclusion of fast travel, it makes settlements a total fucking chore, if you even care about them. There are mods to add in bits and pieces, but the illnesses being so anti-fun just made me go to very hard.

>>
>>338226501
You should honestly just do a quick run through the main story on easy so you can play the DLC. Then switch back to your preferred difficulty. I always keep a completed vanilla save for DLC so I can play it in it's truest form.
>>
>>338226523

I started vanilla on survival and got used to the mechanics. When new survival dropped it reverted me back to very hard and I don't like the instant health system. Used to be able to build up health then gradually get it all back, now I'm just wasting supplies.

So new survival you do more damage? I'd gladly start a new game and get aids rather than deal with another health sponge enemy.

>get a couple of perks that enhance your sneak damage
>get a perk that makes your one-handed weapons make more damage
>you one shot everyone and no one can ever find you while you're sneak critting the shit out of everything on the highest difficulty
Man I didn't even try to break the game, why did it suddenly become so fucking easy?
>>
>>338226983

New survival you do more and take more. Very hard is like, double enemy damage and half of yours. I always really like very hard from the midgame on, but early is fucking miserable and getting tapped by a bandit with a pool cue one shots you (seriously).

Survival's damage feels pretty fair and fun, but everything else about it is either meh or tedious enough to wreck my enjoyment. And once you change to a difficulty other than survival you can't revert back, which makes sense, but just so you know.
>>
>>338226380
Maybe, did you already meet DiMA? If so, I dunno if you'll be able to have him and Nick talk.

But basically they're 'brothers' of sort. Beta tests made at the same time, DiMA was made from straight technology and of course Nick was made via putting someones consciousness into a synth body. DiMA helped Nick escape, but Nick doesn't remember any of this. DiMA says that their type can only hold so much memory in their heads so Nick may have forgotten this stuff because of that, and it's sort of true since a big portion of the story is tracking down DiMA's backup memories that are located within the Children of Atom's base.

Well FO4 came out in November, so it hasn't been that long.

And Far Harbor actually seems really good so far. Not as good as Old World Blues or Shivering Isles, but very solid and enjoyable, and by all accounts longer than FO DLC normally is.

I was playing on a high intelligence/luck build so I was super squishy and had to rely on building crits first then doing burst damage with sniper headshots. Didn't work too well most times because of the legendary bullshit.

Radscorpions I'd imagine would be bullshit too. They instantly teleport right next to you when they burrow underground. I've tested it a few times. Tried sniping one from I dunno, few hundred meters and seconds later it's nipping my heels.

Has some very screenshot-able scenery and the chaotic moments whether scripted or not were very enjoyable but yeah, game is shit.

Dialogue system is fucked. NPC's will walk away from me mid-dialogue. Who the fuck approved that? Also getting settlement happiness to 100 is an absolute fucking chore and doesn't even matter in the end since settlements are glorified resource farms. And the invincible NPC's are just....why? For story reasons? You go full retard and murder-death-kill everything anyways because the mc is a tool.

Anon. We could've had a fucking M-60 and it would be lore solid and badass instead of a gun with no precedent coming from out of nowhere aping at an aesthetic fallout doesn't need to follow.

We could've had a firing animation and gun model with belted .50cal rounds draped over a power armored fore arm. Ohhhh it hurts so bad....

I'm so mad, I had to go back to a previous save and lost 7 hours of progress because if you side with the railroad and get the teleporter built before joining the brotherhood, and start Mass Fusion before finishing Outside the Wire, you can't do Blind Betrayal and stay in the institutes good graces. If you do try and talk to Ingram after fucking up like I did you'll end up snitching to her about the institute and she'll hop on the Velibird immediately and you'll only beable to give her the holotape afterwards, and if you order her to stay the option to get her the holotape won't come up until you finish Mass Fusion.
I just want to smash Danse before I betray the brotherhood. :(

Costs him? I get what you're saying. If you don't have anything nice to say have your public relations team type up something unoffensive to release, but again, as a consumer I appreciate knowing that Bethesda needs a wiki to for it's lore and story telling and as a non business minded person, it reads exceedingly inoffensive and worded in a far less than damning tone. If I ever end up partnering up in my brother's business, I hope I'll never become so sensitive as to read too far into something like Avellone wrote.

The wiki doesn't have all the info they should need. Not just incomplete descriptions but the actual notes used for all of the past things they've made.
>I decided to have character say x to flesh out y plot point
>while creating location B2 we noticed x clashed with y's intended vision of Z, so we reworked it
They shouldn't need a wiki because they should have a lore bible, what this shows is that they don't document their own writing or brainstorming/creative meetings or that if they do it's apparently not important enough to organize. I shouldn't have to explain why this is full retard when it comes to a team of people writing together.

Wow, you sure proved me wrong with that cool analogy to guitars. Look at it like this. You have two groups both producing the same general type of item, however due to the nature of the market neither is in direct competition. They work together and produce a product that is profitable, then they part ways. One group can't expect to be able to turn around and say "I REALLY SHOULDN'T SAY THIS, but man, those guys over there really do this one thing bad."

>sensitive
Listen, no matter the statement, if it requires you to say before it "I shouldn't say this" and it's about someone else. You should probably shut your trap because people do read into this type of thing, especially in business.

I think bethesda is trolling people.

It gets so close to making good games, and completely fails.

It shows you everything you want and then shits on it in front of you.

Like everything is happy and awesome :) in sanctuary, they don't mention that your post-war furlogh is ending and you your wife need to both find jobs in a no-humans wanted workforce, with too many skilled lawyers and soldiers in it. There's nothing on the news about the mysterious school lockdown with all students missing because they turnd into pink zombies the day before the apocalypse.

It's like they have some good writers hidden on staff but they have to shove them into designing small pieces that can't poke up into the real game.

They give you power armor! Zomg power armor!

But it's hardly noticeably better than normal armor? You can mod it! You're a goddamn space marine. But you can't turn on all the mods you want all the time, even at max level.

They write in something really good like 'is he a synth or isn't he? you'll never know!

Unless you kill him. He's a synth.
No 'you refuse to check him for a synth part, you cannot bear to know if you murdered an innocent brother'
Just over and over they shit on you.

I'm playing through it on PS4 right now, although I'm only about three hours in, or so. So there's that.

My character is level 68 right now and her gear outclasses everything I've found so far, in the near area. Sometimes by quite a bit, sometimes by not that much at all. Some of the new armour looks neat, but that's about it.

The story, I can't comment on much, I'm not that far into it; that being said, I'm intrigued to find out more and that's staying a lot. The atmosphere of the new area though, its absolutely fantastic. Its creepy, dark, beautiful, everything I was hoping for. It also has frame rate issues that I can't ignore. It makes combat extremely difficult and exploration much less enjoyable. I'd find a new area or landmark and think "I should approach with caution, frame rate might fuck me if I get attacked." That just shouldn't happen, if you ask me. I shouldn't have those thoughts.

If they fixed the frame rate issues, I'd be happy with it. Right now, I can't say I'd recommend it for the price. Maybe wait a while before picking it up; hopefully those issues will be addressed and the DLC will become a tad more stable.

No, you're what happens when a writer gets too far up his own ass to let readers or players behave like a real person would instead of masking things in needless ambiguity because you think that means a story is better for it for some reason.

Ambiguity has it's place in story telling, but not when you're in a supposedly choice driven game where answers are at your finger tips. You probably thought Fawkes "destiny" bullshit was a good idea too.

>>
>>338240335
Anyone?
>>
>>338241721
>How about the part is randomly generated or not?
Save it for non player driver narratives. A player should be rewarded for picking up dialogue hints as to the right answer and not have his choices rendered null by RNG. If you're penning a novel or playing a DMPC in a tabletop game or anything where the goal is to deliver a narrative driven experience instead of robbing players of their agency, then you can have your character act out their turmoil over the horror of having shot a human or a synth.

>aping blade runner
They didn't even add a LAPD 2019 blaster even the the fucking gun EXISTS in the Fallout universe and was in the game directly preceding this title. If that's what their aping of BR looks like, then I'd rather they not even attempt ambiguity.

Remember in Diamond City when the guy shot his "brother" then the guards shoot him? I don't even remember if either had synth parts, but if that's supposed to be bethesda's attempt at ambiguity, then they can leave it out. Beyond ambiguity and back to player choice and skill checks, they also missed an opportunity to flex your negotiating skills or your strength (to restrain the gun holding brother) then investigate the situation. That would've been a good exercise of agency and a good quest to tie into the noir themes the begin and end with Nick Valentine, his kidnapping, his quest, and his office.

Anyway. No. Randomly generated would be agency stealing bullshit.
>>
>>338242574
>muh agency
There is no agency. The brotherhood scribes give you actionable intelligence but it is from the institute computers themselves, and they're certainly smart enough and motivated to want such a valuable paladin dead.

There is no reason why he 100% needed to be a synth. The brotherhood acting on wrong intel would have been fantastic.
>>
>>338241962
After finishing Nicks/his assistant's quests and finding shaun.

Narrative wise, you shouldn't be stopping for hours to turn desk fans into homes for the incompetent, you should be tirelessly rushing main story quests until things resolve, then doing everything else.
>>
>>338242574
Your agency is to shoot him on the orders.
Your agency is to choose to check him for the part.
It's fact if he is or isn't a synth.

Leaving it random seems legit and leaves you agency and lets my writer boner rest. It's your story line where he was/wasn't a synth.
>>
Is there any reason why I shouldn't completely eliminate Children of Atom? They attack my Minutemen bros on the mainland and these guys seem like cocks too. Far Harbor guys seem decent if mistrusting.

>>
>>338242876
>innocent brother
I thought you were talking about the actual brother synth situation. I wasn't even thinking of the brotherhood. I can't faily comment on any of their quests available once the Prydwen shows up as I haven't played any of them, but from what I understand of the situation you spelled out, the answer correct answer should exist if you have the skills to divulge the correct information beyond doubt.

That said, it would be interesting if they acted on false intelligence as long his being a synth or not isn't dependent on your dialogue choices or random chance.
>>
>>338242994
>it's your storyline
No, you let a synth live and were fooled is the storyline, you just don't realize it and that's okay.
>>
So when DiMa asks if you're a synth or not, he brings up some decent points. Is the SS a synth?
>>
>>338243551
Probably not. Is the entire fallout universe a WW2 manhattan project scientist's nightmare?
>>
>>338243329
I've seen players argue it was spelled out 100%, but I think they trust the intelligence too much. On the other hand, maybe I give the institute too much credit for passing bad intelligence to the brotherhood.
[spoier] on the other hand I think the institute reveals they detected the network probe that got the intel, and let you leave with it because you are trusted[/spoiler]

It could even just be brotherhood politics, someone was surprised that Dantz was alive after being sent on a suicide mission, so they found a way to fix that by accusing him of being a synth.

That's all cool too. It'd be great if there were notes and whispering suggesting that (but nothing conclusive), but the writing should be strong enough to organically fool the player or drive him to dig for the answers. Schrodinger's brotherhood synth is just cheap. It's admitting that you need to fudge reality to get the story you want because you can't write it well enough.

I had the son-bot killed, I thought that was actionable.

I didn't think intelligence we had been handed on a silver platter from a faction we were at war with was actionable. especially when it told us to assassinate one of the most senior members of the brotherhood, and the one with the most intelligence on the area.

Literally the perfect person they could choose to have the brotherhood assassinate is also the perfect one for them to infilitrate as a synth... except would they have the means to eliminate a paladin? They couldn't get that crazy old guy out of his hidey hole in 10 years or whatever. Dantz had a squad with him, but somehow when he went to the bathroom or whatever they nabbed him?

perfectly ambiguous. Should have left it that way. That would been my choice. I looted the body because I knew Bethesda wanted me to know, and that they spell it out for us every time. I say that was taking away my agency, really I didn't want to know, but the meta-knolwedge that "SYNTH PART" is in his inventory made me check.

Either way clearly he goes down in the brotherhood ledgers as a synth.

The only way I can really make it work with melee is to always be in power armor in third person with a super sledge or the big hook, because for some reason there's a bug or something that lets them swing fast as fuck and you just stunlock shit to death hoping you can tank enough damage to put them down. Melee is fucking ass outside of stealth.

What the hell. Melee at least gives you variety even if most of it swings the same.
Bethesda hates melee/unarmed I'm convinced. New Vegas was good for both because it wasn't Bethesda, and 1 and 2 are great for both. Unarmed is Fist of the North Star fun in 1/2 and melee lets you hit like a truck and knock enemies halfway across the map. You swing so slow in 4 and the damage is equal to one shot of any good rifle. Does anyone have that quote where Todd said he was surprised people made melee builds in Fallout 3?

I started playing like 5 hours ago. I wanted to inform the brotherhood the second i found out about a synth colony.
>its bugged lmao
okay. fuck you bethesda. The second i get there im thrown right into combat with little explanation, whatever. I'm then handed a slew of sidequests and in the same breath told I need a fucking guide to get around the island. I walk out the gate without a guide, and spend 4 hours tearing shit apart with little trouble. Before I know it, I've spent maybe 3 game days on the island and the locals at the harbor are telling me their kids wont believe the stories they tell about me. I just hit the point where side quests aren't falling into my lap anymore, and the only one of any interest was the revenge story that old woman was telling me, and only because she seemed to know things about the island others didnt, then at the end I find a holotape heavily implying this is just a suicide mission she sends people who show up on. I ask her about it
>lmao nah here have a "unique" cane or whatever

Honestly I was most upset when I heard them talking about a preacher from the children of atom. That is one of the few factions that they created in fallout 3, and that they could do ANYTHING with. I hadn't put much thought into it in the base game, but this fucking hit me. They could do a well written faction with established history, worshipping or hating the lone wanderer much like how the vault dweller lives on in NCR legend. Instead
>lmao they're reskinned raiders now

I'll finish it, but I doubt I'll actually 100% it. I'm assuming the other factions gonna be the children of atom, MAYBE a synth group. I half expect them to pull
>lmao we ARE the synth group

How many more slews of side quests do I have coming my way? My next quest is to go talk to that fucking guide I don't need to get around a fucking island that is really not that fucking dangerous. Can i expect a similar amount of side quests for the other 1/2 factions?

Kek they don't even bother to proofread their shit before releasing it.

that´s some deep and insightful non-contribution to the thread.

If someone didn´t play them how would they know that they didn´t like them, and don´t delude yourself, there are plenty people who bought it in anticipation who were disgusted with it to go around.

>If you knew anything about the history of automatic rifles, you would know that model actually makes a lot of sense.
No it fukcing doesn't and you don't know shit about firearms.

Water/Air cooling shrouds were only ever used on large caliber machine guns because they could and were supposed to shoot continuously for long periods of time, so overheating was an issue. Also the added weight wasn't much of a problem.

No on fucking intermediate cartridge assault rfile where overheating will never be an issue in a realistic scenario and added weight is a problem.

Just because you've seen a few pictures on google and watched a shitty documentary on TV doesn't mean you know shit about shit.

Don't know about you but if you ask me an internally consistent and immersive world in a fucking RPG should be pretty damn high on priority list.

so any game that's not being talked about every day is not an enjoyable game? why do people have to talk about it nonstop?
i can tell you're just being a piece of shit so there's no point to argue
>>
>>338224625
It is point lookout/10. But there are even more performance issues than in base game.
>>
Any intellectual people in here that can tell me which graphics setting reduces Fallout 4's CPU usage?

I live in a shit country where the temperature reaches 40+ C in Summer. My CPU is getting too hot when the game uses 80-95% of my CPU.
>>
Are there skill checks? I know there is at least one. Can someone post screenshots, please?

I'm not sure how that's possible.

Does Mod Organizer support this game yet?

Seems like they're taking writing complaints onboard.
The quest with the robots in the vault was good, reminded me of some of the side quests from NV.

Even addressed a little bit how retarded children of atom are, gave them a little more depth beyond retard fanfiction, although still not good that they crowbarred them into it again.

It's okay, can't how they are justifying the price tag.

I was always really annoyed at how the combat rifle and combat shotgun looked almost exactly identical with little similarities aside from the barrel.

Really wanted the Chinese AR. Thankfully someone compelted the unfinished model that was in the files and published it.

Now we just need the Chinese Pistol added as well.

Compared to Fallout 4 it can feel empty, yes. But I much prefer New Vegas style of things being far apart from each-other to not being able to walk half a minute without hitting some interest point in a map like in F4.

too many 'replace/improve enemies' mods cancelled each other out, resulting in nothing spawning

"They write in something really good like 'is he a synth or isn't he? you'll never know!"

That was the only good part in that snooze fest of a game that caught my attention. How do you fuck that up, Bethesda?

I knew it wouldn't last long when this thread originally started off positive. Then /v/ became /v/ again.

Go to reddit if you want coddling, faggot. If you just stick to circlejerking with your buddies there you won't have to face the fact that the game is shit.

My Far Harbor DLC is bugged. The new monsters won't attack me, they just run towards me and stares at me. Is there a fix to this?

What a nice guy Josh Sawyer seems to be

So is the DLC any better than the base game?
I only listen to New Vegas fans because they have superior taste than Bethdrones.

I hit 80-something, after that I'd done all the main quests and found almost all the locations

I play on normal because I think the gameplay is abhorrent regardless and I just want to see all the cool locations and quests Bethesda forgot to pack into their newest release

I can totally buy someone spending 150 hours.

Not the same guy, I have far harbor installed and have not bothered touching it yet. Probably won't bother playing it at all, automatron was boring and wasteland workshop killed it for me.
