Console or PC? I saw her a fair amount on PC, although she's still a less common pick on most maps than other tanks. She's a lot more popular on King of the Kill where you and your team are going to be stuck in with the enemy a lot of the time and getting good barrier timings (and consequently max charge) happens more regularly.
She's honestly really fuckin' good now that shields can be healed by supports and health packs. For most of the closed beta shields only regened themselves and could not be healed externally, and that hurt Zarya a lot since half her health is in shields. That change alone completely offsets the duration nerf on projected barrier and makes her an all-around good pick. She's especially good at countering Roadhog or highly aggressive Reinhardts since projected barrier is basically a huge "fuck you" when you save someone who just got hooked or charged that otherwise would have been one shot.
Can't wait to have a game to play.

He's got other uses as well. He flat out deletes Winston and D.Va on KotH and is good against Zarya as well. He's not bad against Rein, either. Basically, any time the enemy team is going very tank heavy it's good to switch to Reaper until they get tired of getting blown up by shotguns.

The trick is finding good spots to place turrets.
You shouldn't need to turtle it in most cases, repair it occasionally, but his gun is great for sniping people if you get used to the projectile drop.
When they begin to push a point, ult as they run in, then chase them off with a counterattack as they retreat.

If you can aim he's actually very strong. His rivet gun can be hard to hit since it's a projectile with an arc but if you can land hits, especially headshots, it actually does a ton of damage. He's honestly a killing machine when molten core is up.
Too many people treat him like he's the TF2 engineer when his turret is only part of his kit. His gun and armor packs need to be utilized correctly or you're only playing 1/3 of the hero.

Turrets aren't TF2 Engi turrets, they're borderline disposable with how fast you can drop one and get it to level 2.
Put one around a blind corner, take potshots at approaching attackers and bait them around the corner, then hit them with the short range shotgun fire with the turret wailing on them. Soon as they figure it out, set up somewhere else.

She had no changes between Closed and Open; her projected barrier timer was nerfed from 4s to 2s a few months ago, but shortly afterward shields were changed to be able to be healed by health packs and healers which more than offset the change to projected barrier. Projected barrier needed the change anyway; you have to actually know what you're doing and time them well instead of just shitting them out on cooldown to any teammate somewhat near the action.
The trick with her is always to force the issue so that people HAVE to shoot you, then barrier right when they're going to start doing it. Also, don't just shit out projected barriers - know what the enemy team has, be aware of what teammates are doing, and shield when you know they're making an aggressive play or got stuck/hooked/charged/etc. Making good use of projected barrier can be a pain in the ass if the rest of your team isn't aggressive, but in that case you just want to keep an eye on supports and shield them when the team tries to pick them.
The biggest problem she has is just that she doesn't actually have that much effective HP, even with barrier. If you get focused down by most of the team you will just die, so while you do have to force the issue and play aggressively you can't overdo it and get swamped.

I was referring to the barrier timer yeah. I wasn't in closed beta and I played a ton in the first stress test.
reading about that change actually turned me off the character at first because randoms are hard enough to predict without only having 2 second barriers. But it seemed to work out fine. The shields change was huge too.
Also I played a lot of the UT alpha and regained my FPS aiming ability so I could lightning gun people properly.

High Noon has a lot of fun combos. Sound Barrier/Speed Boost is particularly funny since you can waddle in to a room at high speed and make it very hard for people to break LoS or kill you to stop the team wipe.
Gravity Bomb is interesting because it can be more effective to drop it after someone else does their ult than try to get other people to follow your lead. Often it's quicker and simpler in a pub environment to try to force enemies into the path of someone else's ult or prevent their escape. It's really good for Reaper, Pharah, McCree, Junkrat, and especially Hanzo since pretty much nothing can survive a Hanzo ult if they're forced to sit in it for the duration. The barrier also helps to mitigate the issue that Reaper, Pharah and McCree have with their ults - namely, that most people are going to try to stun/kill them and they rarely survive to pull the whole thing off.

Torb is decent. Not great at high level play, but decent for quick plays. The main thing to realise is that you aren't supposed to babysit your turret. He's not TF2's Engineer. If you want to sit in one spot, play Bastion. Torb's rivet gun is really good; it can do high poke damage from far away and wrecks things up close with the shotgun. Plus, armour packs are fantastic. 75 armour is a huge bonus for any hero. But to get them, you've got to be out there fighting with your team, collecting scrap and distributing armour.
So in short, place your turret in a place where it's hard to flank, easy to repair and has a decent field of fire. Then get out there, stick with your team, do damage, and collect scrap and hand out armour. If the turret is killed, big deal, it takes no time to rebuild.

From my experience playing against Torb the biggest issue he can have is that since he's relatively slow and obviously very shot it's very easy to headshot him at medium range with most characters that can headshot. McCree, Soldier 76 and Reaper can all poop on him if they play well. The point was the before hand they ONLY charged out of combat, but did not recharge by picking up a health pack, being near Lucio's heal or getting directly healed by Mercy. She's not a pick at low skill level because - surprise surprise - she takes skill to play. You need very good tracking to do damage with her and very good awareness to use barriers correctly. If you do, though, she's a fucking killing machine and shuts down a lot of other heroes. Genji can't reflect a giant laser and gets melted, Roadhog can't hook a shield (or does and then shotguns into a shield), Reinhardt charges someone who then gets a shield and does no damage, Tracer bombs someone who then gets a shield and takes no damage, etc. She's amazing if you're good enough to time shields when they're needed.

once you get past like level 10, most people just move out of the way of the ult. it's incredibly easy to dodge because it's so slow and you can hear the direction it's coming from. it's exactly like D.va's ult in that it's only good for briefly moving people away from something, and if it happens to kill things then great. i rarely saw a potg with hanzo's ult. it's usually just reaper dropping into groups and ulting, or bastion mowing down retards in a narrow corridor.

Hanzo is pretty good. Good hanzo's are smarter when they use their ults. Scatter arrow fucks tanks and 1 shots most classes (ez mode flanking tracer/reaper defence).

Hanzo isn't even as worried about people getting close to him too. You can beachball a tracer in the face with your arrows or if you don't feel like aiming get free kills with E.
His mobility helps out to enable flanks too where a widow usually wants to just fuck off to the backlines because of how squishy and versatile she is.
That said a good widow can literally force two winstons.

I had this same thing on the XBONE, lot of offense (namely Reaper and Soldier), little defense, no tank and no support. IF you address the hitscan size of his arrows which is what you're complaining about, you now have a gimped version of a widow (widow shoots faster, and hitscan) the size of his arrows to make up the fact that he shoots fewer RPM, and that his arrows are a projectile

So I haven't been following this long autism argument about Hanzo, but the point of him compared to Widow is to be stronger in mid / close range fights, have more frequent reconnaissance with his sonic arrow compared to Widow's ult and has his own ult + scatter arrow for tighter spaces. He has better mobility than Widow too.
Widow is better at long range and global vision with her ult, she set up more for staying in the same general area with her trap to cover her back and grappling hook to get to higher places.
