Thought the same, friendo, but i'll be honest. Nightmare will fuck you up REAL fucking good unless you are High Tier in FPS's. Its not just not missing, its also constantly moving and shooting and still dying to 2 hits from the back. Legit got to the elevator after the tutorial and told myself, "nah man, just go ultra-violence". I realized i wouldn't like my journey from the get-go as nightmare.

No it wasn't, Arbiter's missions ruined the campaign by a whole lot. Arby's missions were linear scripted gray corridors because of this heavy push for story. There was barely any UNSC weapons and vehicles in them, the Flood were broken and took up most of his missions, you were constantly locked in areas until the game let you pass, Brutes were bullet sponges. the Covenant weapons and vehicles were not as good as their UNSC counterparts, and Arbiter's boss fights were terrible. A freaking Elite Ranger with holograms and berserking Brute with a hammer, the cliff hanger ending didn't help. They should have just made Arbiter's campaign DLC then the campaign would have been better.

ODST felt like Halo but with none of the epicness the Chief brought to the table. Sparse ammo, empty overworld, boring encounters, firefight moments in campaign, not many unique set pieces, bad characterization, and boring and very short story and levels made it one of my least favorite games in the franchise. It also didn't help that Bungie didn't stick to the original plan about the game being about stealth. We had ODSTs being able to rip gun turrets out, move faster than Chief with them, destroy vehicles with their bare hands, lift heavy weapons, beat down aliens, take multiple shots because Stamina was just Shields. It also didn't help that ODST couldn't use Human made equipments or dual wield. Bungie should have left it as DLC because it sure as hell wasn't worth $60.

The last tier of the game as MC sucks ass, it's linear as fuck too, for arby missions it's quite the opposite, they go from linear to more open and interesting, the last mission being the culmination of it.

i remember being hyped for halo 2 because it was going to be about defending earth from a huge ass covenant invasion. (see also: the early mombasa preview playthrough), but instead it ends up being like 5 covenant ships that get BTFO of orbit and the last one runs off before you do anything besides cross a bridge, then you spend the rest of the game fucking around another halo. also halo 3 you are driving around the countryside for a few missions then you're on the ark for the rest of the game.

thats probably why people liked ODST, you were actually on earth and in an urban environment fighting to repel an occupation. also for all their flaws H4 and Reach had a few good urban missions as well.

If I want a good competitive FPS I play Quake or UT. The only missions that were good in Halo 2 were mainly the Chief ones because they were more opened with exploration and they had some cool sequences such as killing a Prophet, and watching the Covenant kill itself. Halo 3 continued on the tradition of large level design which let you screwed around with the sandbox that's more than I can say for Arby's missions in Halo 2. It never had anything to do with playing another character that isn't Chief. It's the fact that Bungie can't stick with Halo fun gameplay and always have to dumb that shit down every time you play as another character. Was it so hard for Bungie to make a Halo game play like a fucking Halo game without Chief?

I don't hate Halo 2 at all, I don't even care for the cut content I actually feel sorry for Bungie and what they went through for this game, but that doesn't mean I will give them the benefit of the doubt for throwing the large open level design of Halo CE and Chief's missions in 2 away for Arby in 2. You can make a large game with story that's not heavily scripted or linear but some devs just choose not to that. Going through the same color rooms over and over again gets boring this is why Arbiters missions were terrible, too scripted, too repetitive, and too boring. The claustrophobia of his missions didn't help.
