Lorian is crippled because he linked the flame with Lothric - instead of adding fuel (soul) to the fire and burning up Lorian got crippled and their souls were fused into one. Then they just walked away from the flame and that's why they're Lords of Cinder who weren't revived by the First Flame.

Btw, pretty sure Gwyn and his 3 kids are based off of Izanagi and his 3 kids. Gwyndolin, born under the darkmoon is Tsukuyomi, Gwynevere is Ametarasu and Nameless is obviously Susano'o, god of the storm and known for wandering off to wherever he wants
