I never forgot LittleBigPlanet, I still play the third installment regularly on my PS4.
>>
I remember playing it, good times - shame that it wasn't ported over to the PC. It was so based having Stephen Fry as a commentator, soundtrack was also pretty good - kept a peaceful vibe.

https://youtu.be/TAX9sPMOTMk

LBP 3 is on sale, so I might pick it up some time.
>>
>>338183156
I never got around to playing the 3rd one, it isn't actually developed by MM though is it?
>>
Minecraft
>>
It was a blast for local multiplayer. Was so hyped for the second but despite how much we all loved it, for some reason no one wanted to get together and play the second like old times.
>>
>>338182457
I bought 2 on launch day after buying a ps3, but I don't think I put more than 10 hours into it.

It was a beautiful game and had a ton of options, but at the same time it felt like it was more obsessed with adding content than making the base game work.

The layers of depth system was odd and would occasionally fuck you over because holding the jump button seemed to push you further back automatically (or my controller was fucked), the jumping was floaty and irregular and there was nothing you could do except die and try again if you failed when even nsmb had added walljumps. You had a grab button but unless you were on solid ground or holding on to something in movement you could hardly jump off or hoist yourself up. The grab button could be used to hold on to other players and fuck up their movement speed and momentum with absolutely no benefit to anybody and it was impossible to get them off unless you stopped in your tracks and used the analog sticks to slap them off. And the sticker system was unintuitive at best and horribly clunky at worst.

There was a really inventive and interesting game under all the flaws, but even that was sandwiched between literal mountains of fluff and content without proper application
>>
I never really noticed how LBP's popularity died off after 3 was quite the failure. Sony IPs never really have any life to them honestly, I'm sure Uncharted will die out after a couple years.

Im hoping Dreams gets atleast half the community LBP 1 had. it was such a fun thing back then. The developers do live streams frequently creating things in Dreams as an update, its lookin good
>>
>>338183156
Oh and before anyone asks, yes it's still active and yes it still receives updates and DLC, it launched in 2014.
>>338183257
No, it was developed by a group of studios who made DLC campaigns for the first two games, the lead developer being Sumo Digital.
>>
It was a platformer with bad platforming.
>>
>>338183427
LBP3 sold pretty well for some reason, no one really talked about it cos it was basically little big planet 2.5
>>
>>338182457
The marketing for LBP 1 was insane - everyone I knew was talking about it (even if they didn't play games).

The games after didn't have anywhere near the same push.
>>
>>338183530
It was a physics based puzzle platformer with servicable platforming that's improved with each title.
>>
>>338183349

Eh? I think Sack boy is fuck ugly and the graphics are decent bit nothing to rave about.

It's funny how long it took Nintendo to copy it with Mario maker.
>>
Would you fuck that apple lady from LBP2?
>>
>>338183586
LBP3 did sell well, and it got a substantial boost later in it's life when it's MSRP became 20 bucks.
I highly recommend it at that price.
>>
>>338183638

>>
>>338184052

>>
LBP has the best DLC racket in gaming imo

>All costumes and materials from previous games are backwards compatible with new games
>Added water
>Added wall jumping
>Added a cape you can swoop and glide with
>Added a hoverboard that can grind on rails and quickly traverse hills and ramps
>Added a material that lets you walk on walls and upside down
>Added placeable water you can swim in

LBP is the comfiest series in gaming, but the first holds the crown. They really committed to the handcrafted aesthetic, unfortunately that aesthetic was more or less compromised as they added more complex stuff to the game.

Man, Little Big Planet would have been such a fucking amazing game if it wasn't for the actual platforming being such dogshit. Everything was floaty and annoying to control, and your jump height was pitiful.

People created some fantastic levels in LBP, but it could've been so much better. LBP3 didn't help by being total shit.

Honesty, he's right.
Sony's IPs get loads of hype and sell well on launch, but it quickly dies. In LBP's case I figure this was due to some flaws with its core gameplay (as a platformer, the controls fucking suck).
>>
>>338185626
but the floaty ragdoll controls was part of the fun. were you never able to grab a friend and drag them to their demise?
>>
>>338185494
It does seem that way, but when you look at the dates they really didn't, no more so than any other game series anyway. There has been at least 3 years between each game, not counting portables of course.
>>
>>338182457
LB3 got randomly announced out of nowhere at E3; Wasn't being developed by Media Molecule. Hardly any advertisement for it. No one cared in the end and the game was pretty mediocre at release and faded into memory.

This is a straight up lie, it's immediately apparent when you load up an old level in LBP3 and the physics go into emulation mode.
>>
>>338188283
Ive been watching a few of their live streams, and saw another video with gameplay. The creation and set up is looking fantastic
You can animate anything to life and take control of it and give it some sort of commands that you created yourself. I asked one of the dev's on stream if it's possible to even make a rail shooter or a hack and slash, and they said yes. I can already see this one scene they created brought to life
https://youtu.be/2-0Hitu8nwo?t=3415
>>
>>338185987
Well it's the game with the least levels and least ingaging story
Not to mention they really threw netcode into the garbage and LBP always had bad netcodes
I did love it but it sure as hell wasn't nearly as supported as the first or second one, not to mention MM had nothing to do with it
>>
I think LBP2 killed a lot of the hardcore die-hard creationist community in LBP1, we used to try and push LBP to its limits and a few friends and I had an actually pretty rad demo tech for a top-down/platforming hybrid RPG that was gonna he huge as fuck. A lot of the level designs got homogenized when LBP2 came out because that was what "worked" - if you look at the team picks from that game's lifespan they're reeeaaallllyyyy samey. The lighting updates also fucked up a lot of breathtaking levels. I only create on LBP1 now but never publish anything.

I think basically everything is worse about LBP2 aside from the anti-aliasing implementation. I think the voice acting was a mistake and trying to have a stronger narrative was absolutely pointless. I just never had the same feeling playing LBP2 that I did playing LBP1 for the first time in 2008.
>>
>>338189807
Honestly, I prefer it to be that way. There will always be shit creations that are uploaded, but there'll probably be people who really get into the whole level making, and now they'll have so much more options on what they can possible create. LBP was limited but someone managed to make a damn calculator in it. Just imagine the horror levels in dreams

>>338190634
>One thing i dont get is, what is the game about
No idea, but its definitely more than creation. With such a large variety of animation customization this can be a 3D action platformer. A racing game too, all ya gotta do is make a car and give it speed. Action, probably but i havent seen how the mechanics on that work yet. I feel like a shill at this point lmao, but seeing that this game is a thing just makes me happy. here they showed off a bit of gameplay a while ago, also they did confirm it will have a story mode

I'll tell you two things that pissed me off with the game.
1. The floaty controls and it's tendency to drag you between layers all because your analogue stick was tilted very slightly up or down meaning you die.
2. The editor was a pain to use with the controller.

If they had fixed those issues from the very start it would be likely people would still be real into it right now.

Yep, it's honestly one of the reasons I feel like the sequels suck in comparison. The first game had so much more charm and was pretty unique at the time.

>>
>>338196172
The funny thing is it's still cherry-picking garbage

a big problem with how platforming is handled is how control works when you are airborne. Simply speeding it up with gravity tools saves nothing, you need to wire up a custom sackbot
>>
>>338182457
>What happened

Millions of DLC packs / costumes.

Sequel that didn't really massively make a difference, though there was some better creator tools. Then the third game, which again just added more game type modes instead of fixing more important things. Plus a PSP and Vita title that were extremely vanilla.

The pros were the awesome user created levels, the music, and the graphics / art style were incredible. The co-op was also well done.

The cons were the floaty gameplay, that really hurt the game from being more fun and challenging since it was hard to make platforming. Also the 3 tier level plane might have been a poor idea, because it's easy to get stuck on the wrong one when jumping.

To anyone wondering, it's worth picking up one of them and having a great time. Just don't waste money on the dlc, and if you play one of them you played them all.

I remember seeing this for the first time god knows how many years ago. I really wanted to get a playstation, but that didn't happen until about two years back. Even then I just used it for Metal Gear.
My friend lent me his copy, it was good but I don't think I'll ever know how good it was on release.

Trust me, after six games, Stephen Fry's voice gets grating. On the Vita there was a glitch where he'd repeat the tutorial text even if you turned it off. Hearing "PUBLISHING ALREADY, EH?? Pretty obvious; A marketing stunt game that relied on player creativity but lacked any compelling singleplayer, weighed down by too much DLC

>It's been growing in the dark, it's in the edge of town
>People won't be people, no, the people won't be people when they hear this sound
>Let me show you what lives(begins?) in the edge of town

>cant even search for someone because there aint no search option
>just do a single player match and someone will join probably
>never did

>try to play online with someone in with someone

Oh, disgusting. That's probably why then, I was nearing the end of the game's life as people moved on to 2 (and rarely played main game anyway anymore) and could not for the life of me get more than 1 ally in a game.
One day, I'll get 4 people together and 100% that shit.
>>

>>
>>338204031
Actually, the real lyrics are a lot more tame than that. Hell, it doesn't seem to make any kind of sense to begin with, which is probably the point.

People won't be people when they hear this sound
That's been glowing in the dark at the edge of town
People won't be people, no
The people won't be people when they hear this sound
Won't you show me what begins at the edge of town
The singer is a crook
The singer is a crook
The singer is a crook
The singer is a crook
The kitchen is the cook
The scissors are the barbersT
he singer is a crook
The chorus, full of actors*

*The chorus doesn't matter (last verse)

3 is a further expansion on the series the games followed: The child who created the game world gets better and better at what they do until 3, which looks really good, but doesn't *feel* like a Little Big Planet game. It feels like something someone simply made to experience and like it's always missing something. it's interesting, but just not the same. Especially the special character levels.

>>
>>338203626
It's pretty much more of the same and it's possible that you're just full. Each game is a literal expansion of the last, hence the backwards compatibility. You should come back to it in a bit.
>>
>>338207018
You would not believe the mass of confusion that went on during the creation of LBP3.
One of the devs was a frequent member of a LBP Community forum. He was constantly stroking our hype cocks and teasing us with stuff that was just too good to be true. He even had a big chunk of the community convinced 3 would have 3D platforming. Turned out that was just a half-truth.
I had the beta. It was a glitchy mess and the dev kept assuring us they'd be patched before the game got released.
The launch release was no different from the beta and the dev sat around on the forum looking like an asshole for months.
>>
>>338203881

Man this thread makes me really want to get lbp3 but I know I shouldn't, I could never recapture that 2008 feeling. Being in high school, creating and cooping levels with my friends, like others have said it really was a game that existed in that one time

Jesus I'm remembering when the game was announced and watching the g4 coverage and how hyped I was back then for the ps3... I've gone and made myself sad

>Haven't played LBP3 since launch month.

Been playing for ages and I have a little cult following of 5-600 people since 2011 who hearted me, invite me and play my levels everyday.

I've been working on a level since LBP2, released a beta version of the level years ago and just imported it to the PS4 to work on in LBP3.

>TFW I can't work on it because they haven't patched the game to work with the MGS sticker pack.

>>338209238
The problem with LBP3 was that they used the same engine as LBP1. After half a decade of DLC and patches, LBP3 was held together by duct tape. There's no way they could make a stable 3D platformer unless they made a new engine completely.
