What's your favourite music game?

Can be rhythm games, or whatever really.

Bonus points for if they let you use your own music.
>>
Rock Band 2. Absolutely perfect.
>Amazing setlist for all sorts of people
>Great online
>Fantastic DLC
>Cool daily challenges
>Fun campaign mode
>Great UI/menus

Best plastic band game, hands down. Shame what happened with 3 and 4.

GH3's the best guitar only game. Also Audiosurf 1's pretty good, 2 was a good idea marred by shit; nobody wanted to play your shitty surf mode.

This is the only game which tempts me to get a VR headset.

It looks fun as fuck

Beat Hazard is probably my favorite.
>>
>>338183042
Its very fun, my only problem is that the dev kinda cashed in on VR and bailed, its not as flushed out as Audiosurf 1 and 2 and I dont think he has plans to update it with some needed patches. The system itself is fucked as well, as purple shield blocks both colors as well as purple, so people stand there with purple up and get the #1 spot on all songs.

I'm having a lot of fun with crypt of the necrodancer lately, playing it with your own music is great.
Also when it comes to rhytm games pic related will always have a special place in my heart.

I've put hundreds of hours into the first Audiosurf over the years. Is the second one worth it?

Guitar hero 3. still the tightest and best Guitar hero.

Should have done Guitar hero: Iron maiden.
>>
>>338183110
I tried that but it felt like it had no correlation to the music being played.

>>338183591
I'd say so. It's basically the same as the first but a bit more intense and with a lot more custom stuff.

The one that everyone else hates.
I dunno, I like how there's a lot more movement than most rhythm games. I like that there's some degree of precision required as well as timing in order to perform well. Most other rhythm games just bore me to tears.
The song catalogue is shite though, way too much weeb trash.
>>
freQuency back in the day taught me that all that crazy electronic music isn't all that crazy to begin with, you just gotta layer things one by one.
14-15 years later and now i own a bunch of synthesizers and drum machines.
still gotta pick up the new amplitude.
>>
>>
Real talk for a second. I don't understand why people like Project Diva. I'm not a huge fan of Vocaloid music but there are a few songs I like. I just can't get into the game itself, feels like the rhythm is fucked up somehow, and timing is really really hard to get.

The music game I'm playing the most right now is probably Starlight Stage which isn't very difficult but still.
>>
>>338182203
Audiosurf is about the only one I really like because well, it's not much of a "press a button when it's in the right position style" rhythm game.

Since I suck at rhythm game and never really liked replaying songs enough to get properly good, I didn't really get into them. And I found stuff like Guitar Hero to just be silly and clunky.

I love that feeling of "riding" on the music that Audiosurf gives me and you never really get that with most rhythm games I've played.
>>
>>338184135
Can you actually find some good music for it somewhere? I mean it could be an okay rhytm game if all the songs weren't japanese shit.
>>
are there any good rhytm games on steam?
is Sentris good?
>>
>>338184550
Doesn't help that they are laggy as all fuck, well on the PSP at least.

I really wanted to get into it when I was a weeb, but never could because of the mediocre gameplay.
>>
>>338184586
Pretty much this.

Audiosurf is great for people like us who are incompetent at rhythm games.
>>

Project Diva and Rock Band are also great depending if I wanna go full weebshit or play more "normal" music.

EBA's pretty fun but I kinda hate Osu. I think it's just because it's EBA without any of the presentation and style and I mean, that's like 75% of the game. That and the game simply doesn't feel right using a mouse compared to a touchscreen.

I'm in kind of the opposite boat, I never really cared for vocaloids at all but the game just hooked me instantly. If the rhythm/timing feels fucked up then it might be just your screen or something (unless you're playing on the handhelds themselves). I will say I think (been a while since I played any of them) the rhythm is focused on the vocals more than anything else though, at least in some parts of the songs.

I tried the PSP version and the PS3 version and honestly wasn't impressed. As far as the PS3 goes at least I have Shiny TV, which is actually pretty fun and simple.

Also, if I get a western music itch I've got Phase Shift loaded up with pretty much the majority of songs available for Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

>>338185903
I did play on the PSP. I could check to see if there's a synchronization option in the menu of the PS3 version, I haven't actually done that because I thought it was like the PSP version, which I also had trouble getting into.

>>338186649
Frets on Fire (which is what people used before Phase Shit) forums have a thread that's being updated with pretty much every song from the franchise. The guy is not done yet but there are a lot of songs to get. There used to be everything for Frets on Fire but it got taken down. There also used to be a good amount of custom beatmaps but nowadays they are rare. Stick to the "official" beatmaps and be done with it.

I'm sure there's other Popn controllers out there.

Personally I never saw a need to play Popn while IIDX exists, but still, either way, everyone sucks at Bemani for a while until you make the focused intent at practice and developing skill.

I'd find a way to do it and just treat it like an instrument. An hour per day, no matter how badly you play. You won't suck forever.

Taiko no Tatsujin.

Like it partly because of how deep the gameplay goes and how brutally challenging it gets despite the simple "two actions" control scheme, partly because how good and varied the music selection and notecharts are, with some extremely out of wack songs in the original music sections. Overall a very satisfying game that always has a good challenge on offer no matter how adept you get.

riff racer kinda sucks desu. The track generation doesnt really vary that much cause really what can you do in a racing game. The speed shit doesnt really work cause the game automatically adjusts your speed to match to the beat over time. Ultimately all you do is press drift on turns and go off ramps in a way where you do a flip. If the track wasn't flashing to the beat, you would not be able to tell it's a rhythm game.
