I know programming a game from scratch is not an easy thing
how hard would it be to create a roguelike?also post roguelikes
a post-roguelike huh?

It depends which language you would use and how proficient you are with it. The scale and complexity of the game and asset creation. One small map would probably take one person 6 months more or less, assuming all of this is done from scratch and devotes one's most time with it.
>>338165172
what would post-roguelikes even be?
arpgs?
>>338165046
here, go to /r/roguelikedev
roguelikes are some of the most trivial types of games you can create. a single update of the entire world per move, simple top-down graphics.

If you have to ask, it'll take a while. Good luck, brave soul.
>>338165046
The hardest things to coude would probably be the random generation and the enemy AI
the rest might take time but it can't be too complicated

This should get you up and running quickly. If you want to move onto something more visually-pleasing, I'd recommend fucking around with Unity. They've got a good tutorial on making a simple Roguelike. Downsides are that it's less in-depth than the Python tutorial, and C# is much harder for a beginner to learn. Good luck, anon.
It would be about 3 and a half "hard".
When will people learn to not ask these retarded questions. How is anyone supposed to answer it?
making video games is easy as fuck these days, anybody can do it.
Roguelikes are simple as fuck mechanics wise, its mostly veing able to deal with a bunch of different numbers

I'm not proficient with any language, I'd love to spend some time learning some languages before starting my roguelikeI'm just retarded and don't know which language serves what purpose

b-but anon..

damn that sounds good
>>338167295
thank you anon, I'll enjoy the trip
>>338167407
that's just what I thought, the rest is just being creative and doing the work I guess
>>338167412
>unity
I've heard a lot of good things about that, I'll take a look
thanks anon

>C# is much harder for a beginner to learn
When I went a programming course a few years ago I was taught that C# was easy.
