Ninja Gaiden on xbox original
WoW, played it for 10 years and never beat it.
Honestly, probably an SMT game or one of the Souls games. I mostly play RPGs which tend to either be easy or allow you to grind long enough until you make it easy.
Though I have completed all of the Souls games and got all of the trophies for every single one. So there's that. Maybe not difficult, but at the time doing NG++ in some of the games for rings, boss weapons, or spells certainly felt like an ordeal. Knight's Honor or whatever in DS1 was really tough for me.

I'm not sure if it was bug or smth but the enemy AI took 0.1 secs to shoot so you had to peak around corners and traverse levels perfectly if you wanted to keep at least one member of the team

Street Fighter IV was probably where I spent most time trying to master the mechanics but the actual difficulty kinda comes from other players
I've yet to experience a single player game that would frustrate me because of difficulty though
Counting deaths, probably Wings of Vi.
Must have had something like 200-300 total deaths in Super Meat Boy for instance and 700-800 in Dark Souls, but in comparison, I stacked up 4500 deaths in Wings of Vi before completion.

Arcade games in general, like Dangun Feveron and Final Fight. Some of the shit you can find on the arcades is so just plain unreasonable for anyone who doesn't have the patience of a saint, especially the second loops of many games.

Most people can't even get past the first level on easy, try playing this on hard all the way to the end.
Imagine trying to play a game with fighting mechanics that can only fight 1 opponent at a time effectively, in a giant room, filled with enemies, that can 2 shot you, and there's projectile enemies all over.
Amazing game though, it was a Japanese Half-Life 2 before HL2 came out; there was even a companion that helped you through the whole game named Alex.

My very first was Another Age. After that, found every other one online and then proceeded to plow through them all. 4 being the best. So many hours spent just doing 1v1s. Not a fan of V/VD. Smaller mechs, dumb scan mode, and too much of a focus on joining and relying on clans to see experience too much of the game. Maybe if there was like a mercenary mode or something.
Either way, Armored Core was my everything up until I joined the military. Then I stumbled into the souls games and have plowed through each with my buddies. From is cool.
