I just finished FFXIII and I have to say I liked her more than I thought. It seems a lot of people miss the concept of the game taking place over only a few days and that's why a lot of characters are kind of having nervous break downs. Lightning's appears in the form of stoic silence. I didn't understand this until playing.
Still don't really see why people see her as a waifu though.

Plus she pretty much shook up what the checklist of protaganists did back between FF7-FF12. While Cloud popularized it, they really just drove it into the ground between Squall, Zidane, Tidus and even Basch. Her stoic soldier archetype is at least acceptable given how they took a 10 year long break from it between FF8 to FF13

I think it would have been a better game if Fang had been the main character, as the honestly is pretty much the only thing that ends up mattering to the plot anyway, and is overall a better and more interesting character (without calling Lightning bad), but they basically couldn't go with Fang because she would have known all the story crap they tried to keep obscure and obtuse as hard as possible.
