words are weighted poorly, a short word typed out fast gets as much as a long word typed out slow, and if you don't regularly play or do things like this, your brain isn't conditioned for rapid and accurate dynamic firing off words. Also, this game has plenty of strategies, like letter locks or prefix/suffix fuckery, and people are either incorporating strategies that they find work for them or worked on them by other opponents, like commonly used words and traps to avoid. You're not retarded just for losing to people who gamed the system, but if you cannot learn from your mistakes, you may be.
If you're going into this game with the mindset "I think I have an ok vocabularly, I bet I can come up with a bunch of words so that I don't get stumped," you're thinking wrong. You should instead be thinking "How can I lock my opponent out of the words that he wants to use with the words that give me the most points?"

In Croatian we use the last 2 letters to make a new word, and if you make a word that ends in 2 letters that can't be the start of a new word (e.g. nt, jz) you win.
