Official DB Continuity
>It goes Jaco (manga) > DB (manga) > DBZ (manga part) > DBS (anime) for "official" canon up to 2016 with Dr. Slump fitting in at least marginally. Things happen in Dr. Slump that would effect DB heavily, so Dr. Slump (DB) is most likely it's own tangent incarnation that follows the Dragon World's rules. Neko Majin Z is also another tangent Dragon World.
>Filler, while fun, is totally nonsensical with stuff like Yamcha beating Olibu happening. Can be considered it's own what-if category.
>The Super manga is just a recap/slightly different version of the events of anime. Promotional material like the SD, Cross Epoch, DBE mangas and any commercials/novelizations/promotional materials fit here too.
>The movies are all what if scenarios at different points in the series. What if Broly existed and came to earth, what if Freeza/Vegeta had a brother, what if Gohan had to fight Bojack, etc.

The official canon is shit like "Goku trained under Roshi", "Goku won the Tenkaichi Budokai", "Piccolo Daimao was split off from Kami", "Goku is a Saiyan", "Super Saiyan Goku defeated Freeza on Namek", "Super Saiyan 2 Gohan defeated Cell", "Buu was destroyed with a Genki Dama", "Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7", etc.
Little details like which versions of these events actually happened, and how the gaps were filled in isn't particularly something that anyone holding onto the rights seems to care about.
I just like to think of it as the main story being an old legend, and different versions of it are told by different people.

If they do away with the RNG system, add a new race or two, and a shit load of new custom character hair, facial features, clothes, etc., then it may actually be perfect.

Dragon Ball Kai is the DBZ saga with a lot of the filler cut out, you could start there.
the original Dragon Ball is really good though. it's more light hearted, comfy and has a lot of slapstick elements. they also get away with a lot of shit you couldn't get away with today, like a teenage girl accidentally showing her pussy to a pervy old man.
it's interesting to go from DB to DBZ, the last two arcs of DB pretty much set up how every arc in DBZ plays out.
