but TLOU is a genuinely good game that hits you right in the epic feels and the PS4 port was a huge improvement
i would recommend for everyone to buy a PS4 just for that

Sonygger here and while i don't agree completely with OP, i still find Last of Us not worthy of all the tennaouttatten it got. The deconstruction used in the story has been already seen in games like NieR, the only interesting character (Tess) dies really early on, Joel's daughter in the beginning is just a tool used like a tash sack so the players can attach themselves to Ellie once she show up (a bit of a dick move if you ask me) and some things don't make sense (Joel gets Batman's detective mode superpowers just by eating pills? Sure, why not).
The only thing i genuinely appreciated was the upgrade system, wich gives this game a bit more enjoyment factor over Uncharted arcade mechanics.
Sony these days seem to be too serious and focus on drama stuff, wich sometimes works (Bloodborne), but sometimes doesn't; want more wackyness, more fun, more bizarre factor f. Stuff like WipeOut, Ape Escape, Wild Arms, Medievil ecc. (and of course, i want it done right, otherwise it may be just like Knack). The Ratchet & Clank reboot is a good start.

adding his daughter in the beggining did a few things, shock factor of seriousness nd danger of the virus, started pretense of joels char and dislike of attachment and created a subtext bond between joel and elle that we as the player can see unfold (joel being defensive then fatherly)
his batman detective mode is just a game mechanic, a needed one in a game that rlies upon sound so much as TLOU

I liked the upgrade system, you cant max joel out in 1 playthrough either has to be NG+ so it makes for scavaging and using resources wisely.
the main thing I praise of the game is the no pausing to create something and no magic pockets, all his equiped weapons are on show.
