Digimon has had plenty of games, but this came after pokemon's success and the death of the digital pet fad.

The games have a consistent gameplay style. The only issue is they're inconsistently titled.
Digimon World 3. World DS, and World Dawn & Dusk all play like Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. Meanwhile that upcoming Digimon game plays like Digimon World 1.
It's like if Pokemon Gold & Silver played like Stadium, Ruby & Sapphire played like Mystery Dungeon, etc.
A lot of the Digivolutions are consistent too. There's just the added feature that Digimon don't have objective Digivolution lines.

Pokemon games have multiplayer that encourages kids to get their friends to get the game to play with them. Even the less competitive kids can have fun with trading. In fact, trading is required to collect everything.
Digimon games are mostly single player. If they have multiplayer, it's not the focus.

I generally hate these type of games, Pokemon slightly less just because the final evolutions aren't always ass. With Digimon though, there are way too many situations for me, where I strongly preferred an earlier evolution's appearance, over stronger forms, and then I just can't remain invested in raising the shits because I no longer care.

I loved both as a kid tbqh. Pokemon was way more popular due to marketing, though. You had the TV shows, the GBC/GBA games, movies and other stuff. For Digimon it was mostly the TV show and maybe a bunch of people watched the movie (me included), and all the games were on PS1.

When it came to the games, I preferred pokemon because I haven'r played jack shit for digimon games, and the very few I have played were kinda crap.

Why do people always compare Pokémon and Digimon like they're the ultimate rivals? Is it just because of the "-mon" in their names? Pocket Monsters, Digital Monsters, the "vast legion of monsters" concept exists everywhere. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Youkai Watch, basically anything Japanese with a focus on creatures. Digimon games aren't even the same as Pokémon.
Pokemon had better games, Digimon had better shows.

Well Digimon in general is better to me since the stakes are always raised sky high. Save our world/digital world and your monsters have devastating capabilities. Whereas in Pokemon, the games are more or less just copies of red and blue.
Also, the Pokemon anime consistently had better animation quality. It always just looked better.
Digimon always had shit quality for its time, even compared to its contemporaries.
