While 3 had some pretty stand out ones like Sun and Tower, for the most part they consisted of telling people what they wanted to hear regardless of how ridiculously stupid it was. P4 at least had the whole truth theme to go on so the SL's had you telling people what they needed to hear instead. And while I don't think P3 sun has been topped yet, I think P4 was pretty consistent with the quality of its SL's and didn't go from amazing like P3 Sun to the horror that is P3 Magician or Moon

To start off P3 had more physical attributes. The game is balanced around MC doing the hard work and party being complementary.
The impossibility to directly control party members in a turn based game makes for a very interesting battle system. You have to carefully pick your team members and be aware of their "personalities", it's not even that bad since if you make proper use of tactics you generally get what you want. Also it really adds to the tension when you are in a tight spot and you are waiting for someone to make their move. I wouldn't like that to become a standard but for this game it worked really great and added to the immersion to be an actual team leader instead of a god like entity controlling everything.
