Dishonored got some ingame screenshots.
>>338049019
Fuck me, the textures are so insanely detailed and sharp that it actually looks noisy.
Still, top notch art direction.
>>338049112

I don't like how foggy these screenshots look.
Maybe foggy isn't the right word, but it just doesn't look very clear.
>finally got that promotion after what happened last night
truly looks next gen, cant wait
>>338050170
It's growing on me, the saturation makes it look scorching in contrast to the murky Dunwall. Basically Dishonored: Africa.
BRING BACK DAUD
I'm excited. Dishonored was easily in my top 10 of last generation. That party level, for example, was pure genius and really rivaled the original thieves game in terms of level design.
>"In Dishonored 2, the citizens of Karnaca will react differently depending on whether you chose to play as Korvo, the protagonist of the original Dishonored, or the newly playable Emily Kaldwin, the rightful heir to the throne of the isles."

Is anybody else bothered by the fact the graphics are not longer cartoonish? One of the reasons I liked the first game was because of the art direction, these new realistic graphics kill all the charm of the series for me.

>>338057037
Nah, it doesn't look like too good to be true kind the way these pre-release screenshots look. Like someone pointed out in earlier thread I think it just shows how much they were held back by last gen hardware in the original.
>>338057769
It was as repetitive as you yourself wanted it to be. You could go fucking nuts with the abilities, and there were shitloads of different ways to proceed though the different levels.

>empress/your fuckfriend gets killed, her/your daughter daughter gets kidnapped
>you get imprissoned
>you get some sick powers by a weird godlike being
>you try to redeem your name/get revenge and find your daughter
Actually pretty gud story imo
>>338057406
That game had to take last gen consoles into consideration in regards to memory and VRAM limits.
Doom 2016 doesn't have that problem.
And if you're metric of good texturing is the resolution, as apposed to lack of tiling, then you don't know shit. Wolfenstein's textures "fit" what they were mapped too better than the majority of AAA games,
Also half of the huge filesize was the prerendered custcenes that weren't compressed. If games start using HEVC, then that shit's gonna get a lot more bearable as well.
>>338058041

CORVO IS BEING VOICED BY STEPHEN RUSSELL
STEPHEN MOTHERTAFFING RUSSELL
THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS
>>338058097
How does it give you shit? Unless you're talking about the sad ending (which is justified), it actually gives you more enemies to kill later on in the game if you go lethal.

Almost every other character in thief 1 &2.
Robo Detective in Fallout 4, a ton a voices in Skyrim. Ship captain in System Shock 2.

>>338057419
You should play Dark Corners of the Earth, I'm not saying there's a boat level where you fight a Shoggoth on the open seas, but there's totally a level where you fight a Shoggoth on a boat on the open seas.

>>338058097
Tried everything, still boring and repetitive, I really liked the atmosphere and the art style but that wasn't enough.
>>338057846
In the first game. You play as Corvo, the Empress' royal bodyguard and behind the scenes lover. Then at the start of the game, there's a coup and the Empress is killed with a new guy coming in. After that, you start working with a "loyalist" faction that wants to put the Empress' daughter on the throne.
>>338057686

Todd, is that you?
So the second game is going to be Steampunk Colonial Britain rather than just steampunk London?
Hope they fix the worst things about the first one
The first game tries to pressure you into the low chaos endings but...
>anyone who dies for whatever reason destroys a no kill run, even if they die because the AI bugged out and they killed themselves patrolling
>the all decent upgrades and weapons were for kill abilities
>getting spotted once in a secure area could make every NPC in that area terrified of you permanently

I like the idea of playing as emily, since her blink looks more difficult to use.
It really depends on how much Stephan Russell I get in Emily's campaign, whether his story is tacked on.
What I want: Grumpy-Dad Garret
Will there be more Dad-Feels from the perspective of the Dad, or from the child?
I hope they do what splinter cell SHOULD have done and have not-Garrett call you a taffer if you fuck up as Emily.
>>338058619
This time it's set in a more spain/greece like setting
Those screenshots look like drawings. I doubt the game will actually look like that, but if it has great level design and gameplay it will be worth buying. I'll probably play this one more than the first since you can choose between protags. I just hope they don't punish you for being lethal as much as they did in the first. Felt like I fucked the world up by killing some assholes and I missed out on using the cool lethal stuff.

>Missions have various options for completion and progression throughout. Some have neutral areas where you can go around and talk to the citizens to get a feel for the city and hints toward your mission. Your base of operations is a boat.
>Abilities are now unlocked via an ability tree.
>Emily, being a new playable character in the series, has a new set of powers to play with. Here are a few:
>Far Reach – A giant hand grappling hook that lets you physically move across spaces and swing around objects. Given the game’s greater emphasis on verticality, these movements are especially important.
>Mesmerize – Stuns multiple guards temporarily.
>Domino – Lets you link four guards together, and whatever you do to one happens to the rest. For example, stun one with a stun mine and they’ll all be stunned.
>Doppelganger – Creates a clone of yourself. You can use this together with Domino to link your clone to the guards, then blow up your own clone.
>Shadow Walk – Lets you slink into the shadows and squeeze into tight spaces.
>Corvo has the same powers as he did in the first game, but upgraded and expanded. His “Bend Time” ability can now also fast-forward time, and his “Possession” ability can now be chained between creatures. His “Blink” can assassinate someone through a glass window starting at Level 1.
>Emily and Corvo are equipped with a pistol, sword, and crossbow, but they look different. The items also have different end-game upgrades.
>Stealth and non-lethal options have been expanded to be more up to par with the amount of lethal options, including non-lethal aerial take-downs.
>Guards are a lot smarter this time, and can do things like vault around and scale objects to chase you. You can also use them as human shields, or put them in beds to avoid suspicion.
>They’re trying to make the ending and morality systems better this time.
>There are difficulty sliders for things like how visible you are in cover.
>>338058615
Textures in 2004 were lower res and made to tile. Megatextures means you can paint textures with lots of detail and try to get texture compression to make up the difference.
The tech needs work, and ISPs need to fix their shit.
Half Life 2 in 2004 had and has great textures, but they can't be easily painted on to the environment while avoiding tiling like they can do with megatextures. Artists have to try fucking way too hard to get shit to look that good.
Redundancy can be taken care of.

It's definitely still got that caricature-ish look to the design, but I think they did scrap the watercolor textures for something more "realistic".
Not a big fan of it, but I can see why they made the change. The general audience is too stupid to recognize good art so they have to cram down noisy "HD NEXT GEN" textures to everything. At least the environments aren't affected too much by the change.

There are 3 ending. 2 in which Emily survive.
In Low Chaos, she became a kind empress
In the High Chaos, she became a way more violent one, plus the plague isn't cured
A not cured plague is a reson that would push people to go to a revolution, and Emily being violent do not hesitate to kill to reclaim her throne (kinda like Corvo did)
So from that point of view, the High Choas fits more than the Low with what 2's story SEEMS to be

I don't think her mother told her, but the empress and corvo were close and he was basically a father figure to her anyway. So even if she didn't think they were related by blood, she would most likely still view him as her father.

I'll admit to usually being one of those autists that think a lot of chick characters are shoehorned into games just for the sake of progressive brownie points but I'm totally down to play as Emily.
They've built up to it since the fucking tutorial of 1 where she expresses her love of adventure and the fact that she wants Corvo to teach her how to climb and choke out fools.
Add in the outsider giving her otherworldly powers and it makes total sense.
Plus she was top daughterfu, looks slick as hell in 2 and I really love the dynamic between her as a beloved battle empress with grizzled veteran papa Corvo as her right hand.
So fucking cool.
i hope they don't kill corvo off by having him sacrifice his life to save emily or some similar stereotypical death. just let him live.

How does Dishonored stand compared to Thief (not the reboot)
I got two questions
Does Corvo keep his awesome mask and have we seen Emily's mark at all? I can't remember from the trailer and haven't done shit since out of fear of spoilers.
I thought it'd be neat if Corvo was giving her powers the same way Daud did to the Whalers
>>338067716
Dishonored is closer to Deus Ex if anything.
>>338067790
He's still got the mask.
>>338067716
It's not as amazing as 2 in terms of level design and whatnot but the powers make it more fun in some regards.
>>338067790
I think it's the outsider who gives her powers.
If it was Corvo, I guess they would have the exact same powers (like the Whalers have the same powers as Daud, and the Witches as Delila)
>>338067790
Corvo does keep his mask but from the trailer it looks a bit different, and from the E3 trailer Emily seems to keep her mark under a cloth tied around her hand, like Booker from Bioshock Infinite.
>>338067065
it dies feel right
my biggest problem with the first game is killing people is just so goddamn fun, i can't resist teleporting behind them and chopping off their heads
>>338067716
More action-oriented. The stealth is there and can be satisfying, but doing a "no-kill" run is a slog for some people. The abilities that kill are far more interesting than non-lethals.
I honestly quite liked it, but it's DLC chapters are superior.
There a shot of the outsider yet?
Curious how he'll look in next gen
Can the levels be either Thief 2 huge or have Thief 1's variety at least?
>>338068184
From the e3 trailer he looks the same, but he has a different voice actor now.
>>338057180

>Move them in front of their own bullet
>unfreeze time so they shoot their own head off
>put a spring razor on their dismembered head, grab it and throw it at a group of 3 people
>Possess a rat and scurry away
And then I never played non lethal ever again.
>>338067790
As >>338068054 - Corvo keeps his mask and probably rebuild new stuff into it. Sokolov is confirmed to be your companion during Dishonored 2.
Emily power seems to be Outsider work, too powerful to be work of Corvo.
>>338050170
In the game world, there is an entire district at the edge of a small mountain that is being ravaged by dust storms, hence why the unclear screenshot.

I don't buy it family.
>>338068538
See, this is my biggest issue with the first game. Lethal let you do insanely cool fucking shit, but non lethal was basically using 2 powers 100% of the time. It was so fucking boring. I did it, because I wanted the happy fun time ending, but goddamn, lethal was so much more fun.
>>338062372
Have you played Dishonored 1 with any SweetFX mods?
If you haven't then you should since they resemble these newer, crisp visuals (soft of) and put the vanilla texture res to shame.

Basically what you just said. Two completely different games that attract different audiences and on top of that there is only one mention of uncharted 4 in the entire thread. Yours.
These are all bullshots. Don't you people pay attention to downgrade mania?
>>338068538
>Someone shoots a bullet
>Stop time

There's an achievement to do that 5 times. Either that, or possess random people and have them walk into a Wall of Light.
>>338068806
Yeah, they've gone and record acknowledging that and apparently in 2 non lethal is just as beefy now.
Hope it's true.
The ability to do non lethal air takedowns is already a huge improvement.
>>338068380
I saw his new VA and he looks like the outsider.
That cant be a coincidence.

>>338069116
I hope so. I really did like the first game. I feel like it didn't get nearly enough love for how good it was. I hope they really did make 2 to be the first game, but the problems fixed. Would be my GOTY if so.
>>338059162
The outsider picked corvo before he was broken out. He made Pierre construct the mask before corvo was broken out.

It'd be really cool to interact with Corvo from an outside perspective.

>Has anyone else played through the game at least like 10 times?
I'm only playing third time main game after finishing Daud's dlc for the second time, trying no powers, no blink use, no bone charms, very hard... doing sorta ok.
Game's very nice, not the bestest but yeah it's very pleasant, atmosphere is good, and all. What's nice is that it's fairly short so I totally see myself playing it every year or so.
Maybe I'm just way up my own ass and reaching too hard, but the first game was meant to resemble a pastel drawing/waterpainting.
Given how the second game looks I think they're doing the same thing except now it's meant to resemble an oil painting so they could have better textures while pulling the same shtick.
>>338072271

>>338074740
Well I couldn't enjoy the original voice since I'mfrenchbut the archetype was awesome, at first you only see him as an assassin and some sort of henchmen of the big bad and expect him to be like that but then you get to learn that it's absolutely not true and that he is so much more than that
I quite forgot, but how legit was Havelock's intention ofkidnapping Emily at the end, why he actually did it?

>>338059473
>Stealth and non-lethal options have been expanded to be more up to par with the amount of lethal options, including non-lethal aerial take-downs.
I never got the complaint that there weren't enough non-lethal options. How many ways do you need to not kill someone? Anyone doing a non-lethal run has already signed up for a challenge run, so why make it as easy as a run where you allow yourself to kill others? Personally I never grew tired of choking people out, dragging the body to my favorite hiding spot, and and repeating in a state of zen until I had a nice mound of sleeping guards in a dumpster.
My biggest gripe with Dishonored, having played it many times, is that it was too easy. But its ease has more to do with having access to excessive amounts of health and mana potions. If these were a scarcer commodity and you could carry fewer of them the game would be perfect in my eyes.
>>338077037
Is the DLC good ? I've never played it
>>338077203
I don't know the exact parameters for it, but Daud will teleport outside. You approach him and he begs for mercy. If you spare him, he acts rather surprised, but vows to move far away and never kill again, so that's probably why he's showing up in 2.

>Wracked with guilt for killing actual good person, probably better then he could ever be.
>Even Outsider shit at him.
I would never be able to forgive him as Corvo, but he regret. Deeply regret. That was enough to let him live. Besides my Corvo was better then killing people.
>>338077405
ITS THE FUCKING BEST PART SHIT NIGGER WHAT ARE YOU DOING.
Except Dunwall City Trials. Just get the Daud stuff.
>>338077414
Well one time I had to fight him to death and the other I just took the key and left so I must have missed that
>>338077405
It's better than the base game.
The city trials are fun as well, but they should've came with the game.
>>338065862
>I literally can't be creative
Oh wow
>>338077203
You must approach him in open fight and beat his health down to certain level. He will teleport out and ask for mercy.
>>338077323
Because it gets tedious, and you have limited options.
Lethal has about a million ways to kill enemies.
Nonlethal has about 3 ways to deal with someone.
Boring gameplay isn't a good idea for any game, challenging or not. If you want limited options, self impose them. Do a "no takedowns, nonlethal playthrough" if you want a challenge.
Don't force a game to be extra boring because people don't have the stones to make things challenging on their own.
>>338077601
Wow well I guess I'll play them
>>338077323
I mean, we had Blink, Bend Time, Possession, and sleep bolts. And possibly something else I'm not remembering. You could easily get through the game without killing someone with those tools.
I'm not disparaging the inclusion of more non-lethal options, but Dishonored was fine on that front, I think. The only issue I had was that Chaos was considered "bad".
>>338077436
Yeah, but we all know that publishers take a good cut. Still, it'll be good if Arkane is brought further into the spotlight and can make more games. Dishonored has some of the best art design of the previous generation. Everything is so unique.
I forgive you.
>>338072271
Clearing out the entirety of Dunwall Tower's guards by hanging on a chandelier, summoning up a bunch of rats, which would kill the guards or make them stand still enough to be killed, the screams of the guards bringing in more guards, more rat summons, more screams, etc.
It was at that point I realized how broken the game's AI was.
>>338068806
>mfw my first playthrough was a non lethal low chaosMostly Flesh and Steelrun
>>338077783
>The only issue I had was that Chaos was considered "bad".
>spreading the plague and destroying the city
>not bad
>>338077757
>If you want limited options, self impose them.
Which is what a non-lethal run is, and so you've proven my argument.
>When playing as Daud there's an achievement for performing an air assassination off the top of a statue of the empress.
Ha.
Did anyone feel like the whole game was building up to some sort of nightmarish industrial techscape instead of the normal betrayal and stuff we got? With the outsider and the anachronistic combine tech all over not-london it felt like we were going to get something more, like the futuristic technology was going to swallow the city whole and attempt to grind you between it's iron teeth.
>>338078361
Although cool, that doesn't really happen over night.
>Find Lizzy
>Those teeth
>>338078330
Not really. It was an alternative play style that was built into the game. Minimizing casualties was literally necessary to see tons of stuff, story wise, and even altered the various levels.
Self imposed shit is just that, self imposed. Its not something the game puts a bunch of carrots out to get you to try it from the start.
>>338048964
>that hand
Oh look, it's Elizabeth.
>>338077601
Dunwall city trials were great anon, they're what I hoped mod support for this game would be.
I still want mod support ;_;
>>338078361
Nah, they made it quite clear that it was the very beginning of an industrial revolution. One man was pumping out all the new inventions and the guards were saying how weird the new security devices are as well.
>>338072271
100% Non-lethal ghost.
>>338078937
Aww shit this nigger don't even gotta pay his heating bills in the winter time. Fuck man jelly af over here, can't even get mine over 70C under load.
>>338078528
Some sort of omnipotent satanic being is running around granting magical superpowers to people, the game is already a bit surreal. Plus you never know what sort of technology Sokolov could be cooking up.
>>338078939
Yeah, but we didn't have intelligent lightning walls back in our industrial revolution, the whole thing was a bit too alien. Especially with the combine designs everywhere.
>>338079130
I use my laptop as a footwarmer sometimes.
>>338079143
Well Outsider gifted only eight people out there, not that much.
>>338071781
With Dishonored 1, you could turn the settings down to such a shitty amount that you could not play through parts of the game because the textures were too blurry to read things on the wall. Hopefully Arkane will keep the same level of support in the new one.
>All that weird-ass imagery in dream sequences implying the Outsider is a Leviathan
>LOL NO HE'S JUST SOME KID WHO GOT SACRIFICED BY A CULT
Devs need to learn when to keep their whore mouths shut.
>>338076780
also that thing on the left from the left guard and the awnings
>>338072271
i killed everyone including creatures, rats etc while listing to liking park.
i felt like teenager again.
>>338049112
those coins on the logo are neat
>>338079312
>>338079143
IIRC, The Outsider only gave powers to those he thought were interesting. He doesn't really care what happens, he just wants to see cool stuff. Nonlethal Corvo actually surprises him more than anything because he expected Corvo to stab everyone, like some players did.
>>338079312
Weren't there some sort of magical/primordial artifacts discussed in some ingame book? If the society of natural philosophy got their hands on something like that, they could unleash things not meant for humans to control.
Actually, I seem to recall the cosmology of the world being pretty cool and unique.
>>338072271
Non-lethal, no upgrades, ghost on hard.
Anyone who buys this is a retard. The game actively punished you for using your powers in the first game, you really want to pay for that garbage again?
>>338076150
>Non lethal run
>reveal yourself to him before disapearing to reveal his secrets
>choke out his escort as they take him away
>hit him from behind with a bottle
>He runs away to the Royal Executioner
>The Royal Executioner got choked out 10 minutes prior
>Let him swing at you
>Blink behind him
>Choke him out
>Carry him back to his bed and lay him down
Non-Lethal does not mean Non-Psychotic.
>>338080096
Be more subtle next time.
>>338080096
>actively punished you
>baaaaw I can't get muh good ending this hurts my feefees
>>338050170
It's post processing/anti-aliasing which blurs the image quality a bit. Makes stuff look rounder and less angular. Most newer games like Battlefront, Uncharted 4 etc. do this quite aggressively.
I like that soft look desu
It's that QAA vaseline look of early PS3 games.
>>338080096
It's not really a punishment, yes the game gets darker, but it's throwing more guards at you to torture and maim while giving you more things to torture and maim them with.
>>338065569
Thats great
I mean the game may have left a sour taste, but everything visual is 10/10
>>338079651
People pray to outsider and may get some power if he thinks it will be entertainment for him. Other then that, there is only Mark that give true powers and that weird box of Overseers that seems to disturb Outsider powers.
>>338079849
Oh I'm aware of that. But non lethal Corvo not only surprises him, it shock and fascinate him. He never saw someone like Corvo, who would spare even Daud live.
>>338050170
It's glare.
>>338048964
>>338049019
>>338049112
>>338049215
I remember when I used to be optimistic about pre-release footage, because it was not that long ago,Witcher 3 release build gave me a much needed reality check.
Now I pretty much know for a fact that the game is not going to look even 75% as good as shown
Because of all the emphasis on the sea, whales and the heart mentioning 'leviathans' and great ones, the outsider's eyes are probably black because he was drowned.
Maybe that cult drowned him as part of a ritual.
>>338064816
>not him
Stop lying, fag.
>details not important
I can tell you're underage.
>>338081021
Outsider is probably connected to Continent and rats plague, too. He is surely connected to whales.
>That part in the DLC where you fight Corvo as Daud
Daud and the whalers are so fucking cool. Wish his DLC was longer

I hope they bring back corrupted bone charms.
>>338080423
>and that weird box of Overseers that seems to disturb Outsider powers.
Exactly, this is just another aspect which makes the whole world feel more disconcerting. Victorian england ravaged with plague, God exists and is a dick, they invented future tech hundreds of years in advance, a form of seemingly non-magical music is discovered which disrupts magic powers...
It all feels like anything could happen, that the entire history of the world could just be a facade which could be torn down at any moment to the surprise of not just you, the player/character, but the other characters themselves, who might all be suffering souls under the thumb of the outsider in some fevered I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream-scenario and are just playing out their psychological profiles against one another, unknowing, until the simulation is stopped and the memories of reality flood back.or some other crazy fucking thing, point is it feels like a bad dream
>>338080681
honestly I think even amazing bullshot graphics can't measure up against some really fucking cool art design
>>338071781
>he's not gonna buy a GTX1070
>>338081770
Last year they said players can craft their own bone charms.
>That note Billie leaves you if you spare her
I really like Delilah's art.
>>338081843
>Mentions HaveNoMouthAMS.
Do you have a steam. After that I can consider you fellow good taste guy.
>>338082179
yes I do have a steam
I never played the game though, just read the short story
I hope Corvo and Emily are talkative this time around.
Playing as Daud and having him talk to people was so much better.
The only point of a silent antagonist is so people can go in their shoes, but that's fucking dumb when the character is pre established and constantly refered to by name.
>>338082403
>he isn't named Corvo IRL
Pleb
I hope the second game begins with a captain celebrating getting his own squad over whiskey and cigars with his subordinates.
>>338048964
Here, you missed one OP.
Check out those graphics. Truly next gen.
>>338083107
That more or less happened in the DLC.

>>338082303
Game is better then fucking story. Damn - author not only write game, but also voiced AM (did great job) and said it is better then story. It also follow every character story and have different endings. Play it.
>>338067790
>Protag wears cool as hell mask
>Barely even get to see it because first person
Why is this allowed.
Why does Corvo wear the mask in 2 if he cleared his name in 1?
>>338084982
Style and so he can zoom in on stuff
>>338084982
Not wearing it causes him immense pain.
November can't come soon enough.
>>338085201
That actually might be true, because all of the nobility in D1 wore masks.
At first I thought it was just at the Boyle's ball, but some nobles wear their masks outside of parties. Like Roland in the Daud DLC.
Plus, in D1 Corvo fucking terrified the city as the masked guy, having him be your royal protector is a great way to have people not fuck with you.
God, I love Corvo.
>>338085607
>November
Did they delay it while I wasn't paying attention, or was it always that?
>>338051073
>bunch of whaling boats together
>both Corvo and Emily can Blink/Arm thing between them
>got to find out which one has the target
>>338059473
>or put them in beds to avoid suspicion.
I've been waiting for this to be implimented into stealth games forever now
Hope we finally get gameplay footage at E3.
They have to. No way Beth is having a conference just to talk about Doom and Fallout
why does it look so good?
>>338085796
Would Corvo really officially reveal beingthe masked manonce his name was cleared?
>>338086115
Could be next TES, Skyrim is 5 years old after all.
>>338051073

Huh, you're right. Though I've yet to try Arx Fatalis, I've heard it was decent.

hey neat you saved that image from the same post that I did
>>338086115

>>338086014
It was announced as "Spring 2016" but since they were kinda quiet about the game for a long while, it was assumed that it was being pushed back.

yes, Luc Besson's character of choice for his protagonists.

Proud of you for taking the high road.
I can't wait to be able to kill Corvo as Emily in a high-chaos run.

The option to start one of Daud's level disguised as an overseer was so fucking cool.
>>338091047
That entire mission was great.
Seeing the aftermath of Corvo escaping and how they changed up security so it wouldn't happen again
