Pretty much this. The community stayed stable even with Xbox kiddies invited to the party, but the second PCfats found out they were getting the game, it was a massive fucking screaming nosedive pretty much overnight. I have never seen a community go to shit so fast before.
The worst thing about PC Dark Souls is that it turned PC Master Race from a funny joke to one of the single most cancerous groups of people in gaming right now. Everything wrong with PC gaming right now can be traced back to the kind of behavior Dark Souls getting announced for PC spawned, the port begging, the gross sense of entitlement, the smug sense of superiority, all of that got amplified tenfold after Dark Souls came out on PC.
Wouldn't a golden age imply there was ever a time where the series was good? It's been sluggish, ugly and overhyped trash since Demon's Souls. The only one with an engaging aesthetic was Bloodborne but even that suffered from critical gameplay flaws like the rest of them.
