Hey /v/. Just bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I don't know much about the game, having only seen my friend play it for half an hour a few years ago. I was just wondering if you guys had any helpful tips for me. Oh, and please don't spoil too much for me.

Grab that

Han Solo Dies.
>>
It's best experienced going into it knowing as little as possible, and gaining knowledge as you progress
>>
At the end it turns out that the main character was Bruce Willis the whole time
>>
Don't give up within the first hour.
>>
I envy you, I wish I could play STALKER for the first time again
>>

FUCK YOU.

OP, look up ZRP. Zone Reclamation Project. It's a clean, simple fix-up that will give you a more stable vanilla experience. After a first run, check out the other, more involved mods out there.

But fuck Complete 2009. It's fucking garbage.

Also, put the difficulty on Master. It makes damage realistic for both you and the enemies. Otherwise it will take multiple headshots to drop one bandit.

Really only that you it's pretty much mandatory you play on master difficulty.

>>337986515
Don't.

>>337986601
Pretty much this, just use the general gameplay tips on this image and you'll be fine
>>
>>337986393
Put on master difficulty, you don't have to use a mod, don't expect to have "fun" exactly, stick with it because it gets better
>>
quicksave often
employ bolts effectively
don't be a pussy. the zone doesn't suffer cowards.
also don't just charge in like an idiot, the zone doesn't suffer fools either.
>>
>>337986393
Always play on the highest difficulty: it makes everyone take more damage take more damage (not just you), and it's where most of the game's tension and challenge come from.

How is Lost Alpha?

Travel light

Always carry bandages and food

Bolts are your friend

Very few places are safe, always be on the lookout

Don't expect bullets to go where you want them to

You can die extremely easily and without much warning, so make sure you quicksave frequently

WISHGRANTER WAITS FOR NO STALKER

The true stalker experience. Don't let pleb memers on here tell you otherwise. LA is absolutely perfect besides some very minor hiccups.
>>

I've played a bit and it seems pretty good, except some weird part with a retextured Bandit demon cut scene in the garbage. How much of the story did they change?
>>
I just started playing SOC. Is there any way to turn on subtitles? I don't speak russian, though I will admit it is very tense to have someone point a gun at me and yell a language I can't even discern tone from.

You can change the fire rate of some guns to single shot to gain more accuracy

What's the difference between the versions? I have Shadow of Chernobyl that I apparently bought around a christmas sale but never played.
>>
>>337990075
Story and gameplay changes. The setting remains the same.

>>337986393
Do not use Complete mod. It makes the game too easy and ruins the overall feel, which is a big part of the game. Play on Master difficulty. It makes ALL shots, yours and the computer's, more likely to actually hit what they're aimed at. Don't use the crosshair. Iron sights add to the immersion.

And a deviantart fanfic-tier plotline.

>>337990528
are they alternate timelines or sequels?
>>
OP here. Thanks guys, just finished installing it. Starting the game now.

Clear Sky is the prequel for Shadow of Chernobyl, and Call of Pripyat comes after SoC

If you've already completed vanilla SOC, I recommend downloading Autumn Aurora 2.
>>
>>337992101
Should I play in chronological order or release order?
I'm assuming from the way you phrased that that Chernobyl came out first, then Pripyat then Clear Sky. I can't think of any examples where a prequel was made before a sequel.
>>
>>337992523
Release order is best, but Clear Sky is generally regarded as the weakest of the series.
>>
>>337992523
Release order is SoC, then CS, then CoP

Games are meant to be played in release order as the story kind of tie into each other (CoP less so), and the improvements from one game carry on to another, so you'll miss some features playing them out of order.

like the other anon said, CS is definitely the weakest of the series and is more apt to be skipped (it doesn't matter storywise to CoP anyways). Though being the weakest of the 3 games doesn't mean it's bad, just not as good

If you really want tips, go to /k/. It viewed as pretty much the ultimate innawoods simulator. Theres a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. general about every week.
>use pic related
>>
>>337992523
Actually, Clear Sky came second. Pripyat came third and finishes out the story. Playing in release order is also recommended, as you get the story as it was intended, and you can also appreciate the changes each game brings.
