It fixed quite a few problems TD had such as the fun curve being all kinds of low in the mid-point of story mode and the special power areas (hyper nova / super abilities areas) being more than just glorified QTEs
Overall it's a step up from TD in most parts, but the boss variety and villain appeal are a bit below the "returns trilogy"

Doesn't have to be anything particularly serious either, though I doubt this would ever happen considering how things are now. I wouldn't really mind Zero or Dark Matter officially making a return if that saga hadn't already technically ended, though I guess you could argue that Dark Matter still has some influence on the universe. (Dark Nebula/Zero, etc.)

This whole trilogy has been getting itself in pretty deep. Return had a few minor allusions to past games, and then Triple Deluxe took a step further with the Amazing Mirror being the cause of Sectonia's corruption. This game isn't really as bad in comparison, as the throwbacks are much more ambiguous or just clones who don't have much to do with their originals. It is the purpose of pretty much every power in every kirby game, "because it'd be cool"
If I said when Kirby's Adventure came out "I wish there was a whip ability so Kirby can be indiana jones" I'd get a lot of dumb looks, but look where we are.
Balance is also nearly irrelevant because one of the biggest principals of the series is self-induced difficulty, shitty abilities and good abilities both exist and there is no attempt to actually make parasol as good as plasma or vice-versa, because that would be lame.
so any ability you can use anywhere is automatically more valuable than one with limited use. yes you can screen nuke thrice with mike, but often the level literally throws three bunches of enemies or a miniboss you're intended to use it on right after you get it. I, for one, don't like its use in Kumazaki games because short power trips like that feel less meaningful since all of his games have much better power trip mechanics.
tl;dr
It would not benefit anything to keep mike as a screen nuke, but mike as a standard ability is just as necessary as paint as a normal ability or the return of magic, which is to say not much of a point either.
