What does my hearing ability have to do with him claiming it is louder than a device you need to yell over to be heard? Because I have one too and my WiiU is nowhere near as loud as it is.
The cartridge rumor is honestly the only one I truly believe because Nintendo loves to jack up the prices on their games and keep them at $60 for as long as possible. Having carts as media would definitely help.
Their online infrastructure is total shit too which also inclines me to believe they will do this.

Wii U disc is barely audible.
In terms of noise consoles make:
PS3 > boeing jet engine > 360 after update > lawnmower > PS2 > silent fart > Wii > sound of cat steps > Wii U
And even if you're that sensitive to the miniscule noise, you can just wear connect headphones to gamepad. One of the benefits of that console is that you don't have to shell out for overpriced proprietary wireless headphone.
