Coming from someone who's favorite DR1 character was Sakura, I wasn't too annoyed with her death though. It was handled well and was impactful story-wise, I thought.

It also had the awful Yasuhiro and Togami still there though, two characters who do nothing drag out misunderstandings longer than they should for no good reason and generally made the game worse with their mere presence.
Whereas DR2's survivors were all atleast okay, no one as bad as those two. Also it let the MC actually push a case through himself without being carried by someone else which I appreciated.

I guess it's dependant on how much your willing to suspend your disbelief for what is just a game, I guess. She was as real as everything else the cast had been through up to that point. I definitely enjoyed Chiaki more for her overall role as opposed to her as a characteractually I preferred almost all the girls in the game to her in this regard. She had obvious parallels to Kyoko but unlike Kyoko she didn't fucking do everything for you - and when she eventually dies, after a little soul searching Hajime steps up and carries his remaining friends out of this shit by figuring everything out largely on his own right at the very end. I quite liked that.

I don't really think this is how I thought about the information. For instance, I really cared about Alter Ego in DR1 despite knowing it was an AI since it actually tried helping the cast, which it was successful in doing (see: Makoto's 'execution'), so I liked Alter Ego for that reason.
