Planned fixes for this months patch;

>Fixes to the Ethic Divergence and Convergence issues. Currently, Pops tend to get more and more neutral (they lose Ethics, but rarely gain new ones.)
>The End of Combat Summary. This screen looks bad and also doesn’t tell you what you need to know in order to revise your ship designs, etc.
>Sector Management GUI: There are many issues with this, and we will try to get most of them fixed.
>Diplomacy GUI issues. This includes the Diplomatic Pop-Ups when other empires contact you, but also more and better looking Notifications, and more informative tooltips on wars, etc.
>AI improvements: Notably the Sector AI, but also plenty of other things. This kind of work is never "finished"...
>Myriads of bug fixes and smaller GUI improvements.
>Late game crises bugs. There were some nasty bugs in there, blocking certain subplots and various surprising developments.
>EDIT: Remaining Performance Issues. We know about them; they might even be hotfixed before Clarke.
>EDIT: Corvettes are too good.

PLanned fixes for next months patch

>Border Access Revision: Borders are now open to your ships by default, although empires can choose to Close their borders for another empire (lowering your relations, of course.)
>Tributaries: New diplomatic status and corresponding war goals.
>Joint Declarations of War: You can ask other empires to join you for a temporary alliance in a war against a specific target.
>Defensive Pacts.
>Harder to form and maintain proper Alliances.
>More war goals: Humiliate, Open Borders, Make Tributary, etc.
>Emancipation Faction. We had to cut this one at the last minute. Needs redesign.
>Diplomatic Map Mode. Much requested!
>Diplomatic Incidents: This is a whole class of new scripted events that causes more interaction with the other empires.

Point defense systems give a hard counter to missles and carry aura effects that can be pretty usefull. Also a defense station with 1000 score costs a fraction of what it would take to get a 1000 damage fleet up. Depending on what phase of the game you're in

>We’ve been digesting and discussing your feedback and how to best go about improving the mid-game to make it more dynamic, both in the short and long run. Let’s start with our short term plans. When the game was released, we had already proceeded to fix a lot of issues. Together with some other pressing issues that have been reported, the plan is to release the 1.1 update - “Clarke” - near the end of May. We will try to cram as much as we can into this update, but the more fundamental stuff will have to wait until the next update (“Asimov”), which is scheduled for the end of June. The “Clarke” patch will mainly be a bug fix and GUI improvement update. Here are some of the highlights:

>"CLARKE" HIGHLIGHTS
>Fixes to the Ethic Divergence and Convergence issues. Currently, Pops tend to get more and more neutral (they lose Ethics, but rarely gain new ones.)
>The End of Combat Summary. This screen looks bad and also doesn’t tell you what you need to know in order to revise your ship designs, etc.

>>
>>337919572
>After that, we’re moving on to the “Asimov” update, and this is when we can start making some major gameplay improvements to especially the mid-game. As you might have guessed, we plan to add some new diplomatic actions and treaties. Another thing that struck me during our discussions is that the normal lack of access to the space of other empires makes the game feel more constricted than intended. It limits your options since you can’t really interact much with the galaxy beyond the borders of your empire, and you only tend to concern yourself with your direct neighbors. This is bad for your Science Ships too, of course, since they might not be able to finish some of the grander “quests”. Compare the situation with Europa Universalis, where you usually have access to the oceans and can thus reach most of the world, or Crusader Kings, where you can even move through neutral territory with your armies. We also intend to add as much mid-game scripted content as we can. Thus, this is currently the plan for “Asimov”, but it’s not set in stone yet, so please bear with us if something gets pushed or altered:

>"ASIMOV" HIGHLIGHTS (NOT SET IN STONE!)

This shit is the worst. Strong empires ally up with other nearby strong empires making it impossible to fight them. Small empires ally up with big empires on the other side of the maps so when you crush them totally the warscore is only at 11%.

They really should make alliances restricted to people who are equivalent to you or put some mechanic in so that you can eat small nothings without the bullshit. Maybe something like if you occupy the planet for 10 years you get it for free.
>>
>>337916054
>>337924838
Didn't that shit work fine in crusader kings 2? Depending if you're invading a province or the entire country warscore would always depend on the goal of the war

>>337925117

ck2 has a ticking warscore that keeps going up the longer you hold the objective of the war. Since war declarations are much different in stellaris I don't think it would work.
>>
>>337925117
Nope. Here warscore is determined by total damage to the enemy. Its why alliances are bullshit. The one planet AI is only worth like 5 warscore because to the whole alliance its relatively worthless. You have to fight the WHOLE alliance not just your war goals.
>>
>>337917829
Its even worse when the only thing changed is basically a software patch and it takes 5 years.
>>
>>337918035
>What's the most bullshit ship/fleet comp?

5 or so cruisers with hangers and scout wings. You can lock down enemy fleets for years. When ships are "in a fight" they drop to 10% move speed. Fighter wings have insane range and trigger fighting easy. The only way they can get out is to do 50% damage to their whole fleet with a emergency retreat. Then if you are smart the fall back right into another lockdown.
>>
is there no way to know what is making my pops unhappy?

Even worse is when your fleet just WONT GET CLOSER. Long range is broken in this game. Your ships try to "dodge" the fire but in effect they wont get in range to fight back at all. I once lost a 87k fleet to a 9k fleet just because my ships just refused to close on the enemy.

I stopped playing until a new patch or expansion comes out.

The game has amazing potential but goddamn. The early game is great but mid-game to late-game is a fucking slog. There are also a number of features missing that are present in other Paradox games, such as some war goals (although this is being implemented in the next patch from what I hear), espionage, mapmodes, a trade system like EU4, etc.

There's also very little reason to play a pacifist empire which is disappointing as fuck. There are only two victory conditions, domination and conquest. Obviously, if you're playing a pacifist empire, that rules out the domination victory so you have to go conquest. And that becomes very difficult when other, more aggressive empires are also trying to achieve the same thing. Why is there no science or culture victory like in the Civilization games?

The custom empires gave me the impression that this game was going to have a lot of ways to play and a lot of ways to win, giving it a lot of replayability. Unfortunately, it seems like the best way to play is a xenophobic aggressive empire, conquering other empires and purging their pops so they can't rebel.

Overall, I like the game and it has some serious potential but there are a lot of things that need to be ironed out before I play it again.

Vassals seem to steadily hate you more no matter what you do. I had a vassal infinitesimally smaller than me spiral out of control w/rt the "relative power" stat and hit -1500 likability, but I didn't get to see if they will turn on you because they had some sort of revolt and became a new, still vassalized, empire. Have a vassal that's supposedly equivalent to me, steadily dropping as well. I don't think there's anything you can really do but use and abuse them and wait for shit to go down.

Also, I've found it helps if you have 1 world dedicated to food, or at least majority food. That way, once a colony hits 5 pop and you can give them an upgraded shelter, you can instantly transfer pops over for quick growth, whilst the food world regenerates quicker than the colony could grow. (Pop growth is 1.0 per month for having food >0, +extra food/10. Not including modifiers)

you need the appropriate resources, after which you can terraform (it takes 10 years).

it's honestly good, but it's not something you'll be able to do early on (it takes a lot of resources to convert a planet to your ideal type), plus you've really got to do it in advance

You have terraform through the planet you want to terraform, see pic. Takes 10 years. Also, if you're doing it to a planet that already has pops, enjoy the free 100% happiness they'll get for the duration.
