What does /v/ think of Doom 3?
>>
I honestly enjoyed the horror and claustrophobic atmosphere, despite what most people said
>>
>>337902545
Yeah, I played it recently and the game still pretty damn fun.

They need to buff the creatures, maybe remove the amount of health you can find in the game.

ROE really had that problem. You'd find like large stockpiles of health just out in the open.

It's just like thanks, is it trapped? Nope. Good.
>>
>>337902440
Literally the best Doom, by far.

Not even memeing.
>>
>>337902440
The ultimate bait-and-switch in gaming form. Was not a bad game---hell, the tech was ground breaking upon release--but it just was not the action-packed follow up to Doom II.

Replayed via BFG re-release a few years back and thought it was still fine---a solid 6/10.
>>
>>337902440
I love Doom 3, I hate the entire PC playerbase for it because they're all casual losers that wet the bed if they don't have a nighlight on to chase away the demons in their heads and the demons on their monitors.
>>
>>337902440
I liked it. Then again, I have shit taste.
>>
If they made the weapons better I would enjoy it a lot more. Atmosphere is good.

I enjoyed it. The audio and the graphics were both amazing and made it easy to immerse yourself in the environment. The gunplay was solid too for the time.

It was not a doom game as it had little in common with the first two besides the point of view but, it was still a good, enjoyable game.

It made me feel at unease more than once, fucking fly babies.
>>
>>337907057
>it was not a doom game

Fuck off with this meme. If a game is made by the lead dev and it has the name, it's a fucking DOOM game. It's just a different incarnation of DOOM, doesn't make it "not doom".
>>
The focus on horror more than action was cool at the time, but looking back I really wish it was more like a traditional Doom game.
And fuck that Flashlight shit that was unbelievable horse shit
>>
>>337907306
I don't get how everyone hates the flashlight so much, after a half hour of playing the game I'm completely used to it. I forget I'm even switching back and forth, it's just second nature.

It was.

Just because another game came out with groundbreaking tech doesn't lessen Doom 3's.

DOOM had revolutionary lighting and shadows, half life had jack shit in that department, half life 2 was all about the physics. DOOM3 had those cool high res terminals too, while I wouldn't call groundbreaking was really innovative for the time.

I really enjoyed it when I played it, because I wasn't really into Doom back then and Doom 3 was the first one I played, so I didn't really have any expectations of what a Doom game should be like, and I have great memories of the game, but looking back, it was a completely different approach of game than the first Doom games, which weren't really going for scary and dark, that kinda started with Doom64 I think, which was still the same classic gameplay as Doom 1 and 2 though. but 1+2 had nothing of this, it had demons and some satanic symbols here and there but the whole time it was just rock music and fast action, and Doom 3 was relatively slow paced and had more atmospheric music and sound design

Doom 2016 is exactly what Doom 3 should have been as a Doom game, but I don't think Doom 3 is bad at all. It basically comes down to that cliche "it's not a bad game, it's just a bad Doom game" for me

It was alright, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy it. The atmosphere was fantastic in my opinion.

But that being said the jumpscares were pretty fucking shitty and it got really dull after the 10th time an imp would teleport behind you or something came outta the closet behind you.

If they focused alot more on the horror aspect and not make the jumpscares so predictable and toned down on them a bit I'd like the game a hell of alot more.
>>
>>337910605
Raven shooters are always at least solid. I've enjoyed it around release in informational vacuum, and I've enjoyed revisiting and playing it to completion years later. The only issues I have are the vehicle sections and slow movement speed before stroggification. Easily better than Q2 in my book.
>>
>>337902440
There's two types of DOOM fans. The ones who are old enough to have played the original two games while they were relevant and those who played DOOM 3 as their first DOOM.

The first group likely enjoyed the new DOOM and the second group wish it were more like DOOM 3.

Personally, I hated DOOM 3.

>>337907119
It was perfectly fine for everyone to say DOOM 4 wasn't a DOOM game until it came out. I wonder why you're so pissy over people daying DOOM 3 isn't a DOOM game, which it fucking isn't. It's a shitty corridor shooter riding the fame of a popular franchise.

I literally spun through levels like a ballerina because of the constant enemies spawning behind you. You could always predict where it would happen too.
The flashlight was never an issue for me, I actually liked the tension of having to chose between a gun or a light source.
The weapons sounded pathetic, that was probably an intentional choice to make you feel underpowered, but it was ridiculous having them sound like pellet guns.
>>
>>337914017

It was nice of them to let you attack with the flashlight too. I dunno why but I just found it entertaining giving imps a good walloping with the flashlight. I liked the thumping sound it made too whenever you hit someone with it Or how when you hit another human being with it they just completely fucking disintegrate.

Guns were mostly pretty unsatisfying to use, the first three especially sounded like wet shit

Still though, my fondest memory was encountering the locked room with the BFG sitting right in plain view. I searched the level high and low for the PDA with the relevant code, but couldn't find it.
So I went back to the keypad and entered every 3-digit code it allowed, starting from 111 since it didn't have a zero. Ended up being nine-hundred-something.

Better than Doom 4 that's for sure.

I think they're both equally good for their own reasons.

Doom 3 definitely was more bang for its buck though being a more fully fledged single player expirience. All the dev time and budcget put into multi player (I know it's outsourced) should have just been to further the length of the single player campaign.

Even though it's obvious there's more but they just cut it out for DLC.

Should I buy Doom 3 or D44M?

I love the idea that you're working at a facility and then everything goes to shit, but I'm not sure I would enjoy an older shooter w/o having nostalgia for it.

How's D44M's story?

Try Absolute HD mod if you haven't already:

Doom 4 has way better combat and is very minimal on plot. also has multiplayer and co op with SnapMap.

Doom 3 has much more atmosphere, is slower paced, and is more focused on horror than action.

if you want spoops and atmosphere, get 3.
if you want to feel like a badass, get 4.

Doom 3 sounds more up your alley if you want to see a facility go to complete shit in a matter of minutes. It oozes atmosphere and there's tons of audio and text logs to listen/read.

If you want straight up better gameplay though, DOOM 4 is extremely good. Both are great games depending on what you're looking for.

Also if you want to play DOOM 3 Absolute HD is essential. >>337926826

I'd probably play both just for the experience. Doom 3 gives you a lot of single-player content but some people don't enjoy it. Neither are really story-focused.

If you like Doom 1/2 better get D44M
If you like Doom 64 better get Doom 3.
But if you have the money might as well play both.

Thanks, I think I'll start off with 3.

I just might.

it was my first doom game and i loved it. playing it for the first time on xbox way back then was so fun. legitimately spooked me out many times. i really loved the atmosphere of the game

Second half of game was absolutely shit. From being tensely conservative to oh fuck which automatic gun with 43204832 ammo should I use now. Hell was fun though.

it's the most boring and inept game ever made. The engine is shit, the optimisation is shit, the plot is shit, the graphics are shit (inb4 stencil shadows, wew) and most importantly the gameplay is shit.

You just drudge through a series of corridors with a fart shotgun and pop whatever imp teleports in front of you in the head (and there's only one, because the engine is so shit there can be only one npc in the frame)

DLCs kinda made the game better by adding fun stuff lifted from HL2 and the original doom, like powerups and gravity gun, but it was still shitty dark corridor shooter with bleeding anuses as decoration and the edgiest designs possible.
