It should be abundantly clear to anyone that followed the series there wasn't a story or even a transitional concept conceived of at the inception of the X series, so it's not like a rendition of some final conflict between Wily and Megaman is going to pay off a bunch of contextual clues from the X games.

It's not like plot ever really matters when Capcom's greenlighting Mega Mans. X6 followed up where Zero 1 was supposed to go. BN3 clearly was supposed to be an end but they fudged it into 3 more. Dr Wily apparently got into a minimum security prison in MM6 so he could break out in 7
And really, the ONLY part of the mobile game MIGHT be on par with Mega Man titles is the plot. Though no one will consider its conclusion to any plot threads canon in all likelihood.

Seeing as failing to kill Zero made everything shit itself over time, and a Copy reploid gone maverick becoming Zero with the abilities he has means that in the end if you kill both and in the right order, both get infected again, both lose their shit you kill both and the virus gets stopped for good.

I actually have a lot of mixed feelings on Axl that just about equate to the following 6 points:
-No Signas, that can't be how you hire Spec Ops reploids.
-He is an annoying twat in X7, and honestly not very endearing in X8 either.
-I like the idea of his copy powers, but not any of the actual ones implemented.
+It is simply nonsense that X and Zero would always and forever and always be the pinnacle of robotics in every capacity.
+I always wanted to play nonS ranked Maverick Hunters in the X games. Which this is nowhere near my pseudo Metal Slug napkin drawings: at the very least Axl is a hunter that doesn't go traitor halfway through the game.
+Here the crazy one: Axl's games actually hold to some continuity. Not exactly a plus on Axl, but he doesn't get a contradictory backstory in each game, and every game does have a significant plot portion exploring the consequences of Axl's abilities.
Basically I like the idea of Axl, and I like the intrigue Axl brought. But not how he manifested as a character.

Sure the virus is or was part of Zero so long as you agree not to expose this conversation to the headache of the OCWs; but Reploid DNA is a code that is basically a blueprint for that reploid's body.
The Zero Virus was a strain of the virus that had to be specially modified to work with Zero's systems in X5. And yes it DID originally came out of him, but If anything the activation of the virus in the X4 flashback showed it limiting Zero, not super-empower-transforming him. But that's just a general plothole from the X4 revelation and the direction the games have run since then.
Anyway since Axl hasn't shown he was able to assume Zero's form after defeating Maverick-Virus infected members of Red Alert, I doubt that justification will be used to start now.
