We're talking about XCX here, not XBC.
The addition of the secondary cooldown system built around the use of different auto attacks, the way that ranged attacks draw less aggro than melee attacks, the way that TP is more reliable than party gauge was in XBC, and then add on the Overdrive system on top of that, yeah. It's some of the best hotbar-cooldown gameplay I've experienced in ages, and I'd say secondary cooldowns alone really make it if not for the fact that Overdrive exists, although admittedly that mechanic could have been tweaked a little.
There's just about nothing actually tedious about the combat. Boring, maybe, if you really feel the need to press buttons for every swing and every shot of the auto attack so the lack of constant input is triggering your ADD, but tedious it is not.

The sidequests are fucking fantastic and I'd even go so far as to say that they're the true story highlight of the game compared to the main plot, an innumerable count of smaller stories with more complete resolutions and choice having more of an effect on their outcomes.
I think the primary issue with people who have problems with the game's pacing or call things filler is that they're approaching it from the wrong direction. Just because the main plot is there doesn't mean it's the game's primary focus. XCX exists for its exploration and in-world tasks to complete more than it does for the main story.
From the pace that I've been playing at, I've had like 20 of any item that the game has asked me for at any point, and more than enough reward tokens to just buy monster drops from the squad terminal when they ask for specific monster stuff.

I loved X but it has several issues. The story missions are very light on actual story until very far in and most of the explanations for anything are 'lol it's Mira I ain't gotta explain shit'. I really liked the combat system and the game nails exploration in a way that few other games do, but you're really only exploring because the act is fun in and of itself. The story takes too long to go anywhere and is fairly low-key all things considered. It just felt like they put all they had into the game and sorta forgot to finish writing a proper story so they just half-assed something, which is funnily enough the opposite of what everyone was expecting from Takahashi.I liked the music, too.

Quite conversely, the version on the Wii U eshop is not even a port. It's literally the Wii game that launches into Wii mode to play, and your experience will thus be identical to the Wii version.
HD remasters and actual ports take time to do, and no one would pay for the shitty VC game if a HD remaster was available, so the smart thing to do would be release it on VC first and then sell the remaster, so you get people who are stupid enough to buy both.
Just about every Wii U game worth playing will get a HD remaster on the NX and I'm sure they won't put Xeno X up there without redoing its prequel too, looking at how cash-grabby Nintendo has become lately

No mater how cinematic they try to make trailers for whatever NX remakes they do, I probably won't buy into it because I don't think any of the games on the Wii U look inherently bad enough to warrant a slightly graphical upgrade.
