Guys, I'm all for vanilla progression servers but this is an announcement about something that may happen in the future and it might not even be related to vanilla servers.
This could be a lure to serve them a notice, it could be to offer them jobs or it could be a simple way to give them a tour and some merch and then send them on their way so they can say that they gave them a chance to pitch vanilla servers.

This is what the people who couldn't do the content wanted. You remember them talking about how only like 10% of the playerbase even entered Naxx pre TBC? That's because nobody except the elite people were capable of getting 40 people together to get coordinated and actually do it. There was bitching on the forums constantly about how the content was too difficult for the average person to do, and now we've come full circle and all that shit will probably happen again, assuming people are dumb enough to buy into the idea of a vanilla server again in the first place.

They are embarrassed that they took the wrong stance publicly, the are embarrassed that their current content is the least entertaining it has ever been and they are embarrassed that some people who took their vanilla code and slapped together some scripting gained massive popularity while they lost popularity and money.
Also keep in mind there is no good time to release vanilla servers (even well crafted progression servers that tie in with each expansion) because it will either interfere with projected sales of the next expansion if released too late and distract from new content if released too early. Instant teleportation means a lack of investment in the group. People are still more likely to leave or initiate a vote kick at the drop of the hat if they feel the group means nothing outside the dungeon.

I think the point was that mechanically heroics are just a stepping stone to raids so difficulty isn't necessary.
Ultimately they should be fun, reward pre raid gear, introduce upcoming raid mechanics and continue the story.
