just use OBS, man. I've been using FRAPS for years because I didn't know better, but OBS is just better in every aspect.

Use shadowplay or twitch
>>

Supposedly. But who the fuck cares, it's 2016, just use OBS or Shadowplay.

Yes.
Literally EVERY program running in the background when you're playing a game decreases performance.

that's only assuming the game is using all the resources

computers are made for multitasking, extra threads that the game isn't using (he didn't fall for the i7 meme), ram and the like isn't going to slow anything

Yes. All recording software decreases performance.
>>
Shadowplay all the way
>>
>>337795669
this isn't really the case if you're using an integrated encoder.
If you have an Intel CPU you can use the unutilized integrated graphics to record, this is called quicksync.
Nvidia has shadow play and AMD has Plays.tv.
Both Nvidia's AMD's and Intel's integrated recording functions can be used in OBS.
>>
when just displaying the fps; no
when recording; depends on your HDD

holy fuck this is obvious shit you fucking idiots
>>
>>337795890
They have a much smaller impact on performance, but it´s still there. Depends on the games though. For example I lose about 10fps in DaS3 when recording.
>>
>>337796184
>depends on your HDD
I don't think you know how recording works.
The bottleneck isn't the drive, it's how you're encoding the footage.
If your CPU is doing the work, it can lose your frames per second.
Shadowplay uses a built-in h.264 encoder on your video card to do the work, which minimizes performance impact.

What.
>>
>>337796452
hdd can have an impact as well though, writing large video files will lessen read speed and lead to potential stutter and extra loading times

but easily solved by just not using the same hdd, or ssd/ramdisk whatever works for you

Fence sitter here.

Had a 290 in 13' and it was TERRIBLE literally nothing worked

returned it and got a 770 4GB that got gimped soon after i bought it so i waited for a new amd card to come out

and waited

and waited...

and waited.

3 years later nothing came out so i got a 390 8gb
>>
>>337794669
Yes, it records on CPU and doesn't compress shit so unless you have a separate disk with large sequential write rate it will bottleneck your system pretty bad. On the other hand, fraps will record literally anything and everything.
>>
>>337797136
well that's an nvidia sponsored game so of course it's going to work better on nvidia due to excessive amounts of tessellation

It's nice knowing that the only thing that Nvidia cards have over AMD is the pricetag. Be more proud of that.

To be honest, as a Nvidia owner, I'd rather be a poorfag then a cuck.

So. Is there some simple software that displays the FPS of games?

Could be useful to have around.
>>
>>337794669

>using fucking fraps

OBS exists
>>
>>337799127

MSI Afterburner, Nvidiot Shadowplay

even FRAPS, just don't hit the Record button

some games / engines has the option to turn Display FPS on via the config or console
>>
>>337797764
>playsTV
You mean the piece of fucking shit that doesn't manually start/stop recording despite me telling it to and assigning it hotkeys to?

No thanks.
>>
>>337799458
Don't have Gforce Experience installed because it's shit. MSI afterburner is a mess, Fraps is Fraps. I just want something simple, that does one thing and one thing well.

That's such a "I am so retarded and don't know a thing about computers" question, faggot.

>>

Lagarith stopped being developed years ago UtVideo is superior in many ways.
>>
>>337794669
Use OBS or ShareX depending on what you're doing. Both are free and superior
>>
Dxtory is awesome, eats up mininal fps (like 5 fps or IF even that), but constantly crashes my games randomly for some fucking reason.

gratz idiot so you bought 3 years old gpu (performance wise 290x=390) for price of new gpu

top kek
>>
>>337794669
every recording software that isn't wired in hardware to the system does. copying a screen worth of pixel every frame is insanely costly no matter how you multi thread it. This is why shit like eurogamer use a hardware plug in on the output instead of software to compute that shit.
>>
>>337799812
Yes
>>
>>337796923
Polaris coming out as mid ranged gpu as they are fucked. 1080s going to kill the 390s.
>>
>>337799127
I just use Steam to display fps. Obviously not an option for pirates or non steam games
>>
>>337801371
>copying a screen worth of pixel every frame is insanely costly
It's really not that costly. Hardly any CPU, and not that much RAM.
>>
>>337801680
>650$ comparable to 400$
Top kek. 1070 might though.
>>
>tfw Nvidia cannot lose unless AMD gives in and starts implementing practices as shitty as theirs, because AMD's open practices can be taken advantage of by Nvidia as well

I wish Nvidia would get hit by some heavy antitrust lawsuits. We need healthy competition, not sabotage.
>>
Funny how /v/ is quick to point out all anti-consumer practices in this industry except for Nvidia's.
>>
>>337801680
what a dumb nvidiatard, 1080 is 600usd and 390x is 300usd, nobody who bought 390x not gonna care about overpriced gpus like 1080, if anything may kill amd it will be 1070 which is priced really good for much better performance than any 300-400gpus
>>
>>337802095
Shit like custom designed GPUs are out of Nvidia's league though.
