One question I have is has anyone capture the prethoryn swarm queen?
have about 80+hrs into it now and have finally gotten to the point of doing so and can't find her. The wiki says it may be bugged :'(
>>337792990
So I ran into a problem while uplifting a species of tombworld roaches. For some reaason my science ship wouldn't start the project and just hang around in orbit. Then the project timed out so I tried again. Same failure. When I reloaded a save, I suddenly couldn't uplift them anymore, they disappeared from he diplomatics screen. Am I missing something or is this just some stupid bug?
>>337792990
You need to kill their fleets, sometimes they leave a queen behind that you can then capture.
>>337794116
You don't need a science ship to uplift someone, it's done through the journal thingy. Other than that it's probably a bug.

>it's a 64 months for a research episode
I have a slight dilemma. Early on in the game, an alliance of two factions decided they were going to fuck me up and started a war with me (their reasoning: I had a lot of resources). I have three planets, and right now they're camping my home planet with a 3K fleet, bombarding it and repeatedly attempting to invade with ground forces (fortunately I loaded the planet with defense forces so they've failed over 15 times now). For whatever reason I am not getting ANY research options for weaponry. I am 30 years in and only have my starting red lasers and missile defense systems. I have corvettes, destroyers and cruisers at my disposal, but even when I can muster up a 2k fleet of corvettes they're obliterated in seconds. I have one friendly faction that is also at war with my enemies, but they aren't helping me out at all. I welcome any strategies, because right now I'm stuck with buying up defense forces to stop invasions while praying for some new technology to upgrade my battle ships.
>>337806636

>If you are on the galactic map and you select a constructor ship. The map will show all possible resources you can node in every system you've explored. Resources currently mined will appear in green. Resources not mined will appear in white.
>If you select a colony ship while on the galatic map, it will show all possibly habitable planets in systems you've explore. Green planets are ideal, yellow planets are non ideal and red planets mean you dont have the tech to colonize them
>When you select a ship on the galactic map, the yellow ring around it will tell you exactly how far the ship can move. This can be helpful on gauging if you can make those long jumps to another arm of the cosmos or not!
>You can check how much food your world needs to grow on the plant information tab. Once you have maxed out on pops, you just need to keep it at 0, so you can go back and build over old food plots!
>Chances are you are either going to have an excess of minerals or an excess of energy. The ai monitors how much of its own resource it has and its value is dervied from that. So an AI with low minerals will never trade their minerals away. You can use this system to trade off your excess for what you are lacking!
>A full embassy just won't do the job! If you want to nurture an alliance you're going to have to squeeze the diplomacy out of them. Declare a rivalry with people they've declared rivalries with and make sure you have a months long trade agreement with them. It will add modifiers all around
>While we're talking about declaring rivalries. When you do, it will create influence for you which is a very hard to come by resource. However, not all rivalries are the same. I might just take over one of their weaker planets, then use that as a platform to raise an assault army and take over the rest of their neighboring planets. Either that or I'll have to cruise around and shoot down unidentified alien ships and hope I can research some new weaponry tech from the wreckage.

Avoid
>>337808713
How does that not fit in to Stellaris' vision?
It's a game literally about the development of nations. Unfortunately, it just stops at colonies and war.
There's hundreds of years of history that comes after those things, and they are vastly more interesting.
>don't tech federation in early game because I'm surrounded by pacifist cucks that don't wanna be friends with me because of "differing war policies"
>in midgame notice a new colony from a guy on the other side of the galaxy, he's willing to ally even though I never even planted an embassy on him

>>337808960
You don't want to be in a federation with AI, only the leader can declare war and that rotates every 5 years. And the AI is fucking stupid.
There is so many things wrong about this game and so many things I like. I have a growing pop stuck on a planet, it can not grow because initially I moved one of my primary species to the planet and that primary species was there long enough to start the birth of a growing pop and then it left before it finished.

I wish they would remove the annoying colouring of "explored space". The green-coloured hyperlanes are sufficient, or just remove that greyish fog that the unexplored stars have. Right, I know. Hell, that's the most enjoyable part of the game and the only reason I've played as much as I have. But even that is hampered by shitty diplomacy, non-existent trade, cruddy sector management and a terrible AI.
>You can min max and break the game I just don't find that fun and chose empires with weakness and stuff.
That's my point. There are no significant weaknesses to choose. None of them affect your ability to outgrow the AI.
>>337813308
I guess, I've just always used offensive. Defensive is probably good if you're facing off against a bigger fleet of bigger ships and need to gimp the evasion bonus. I've just never had the AI grow bigger than me.
>>337813747
Think you'd need to AT LEAST fill up to your home sector capacity. Vassals get relationship penalties if the sum of all the vassals' military power is higher than the overlord's.
But to be honest, I don't even know if vassal rebellion is a thing that was implemented yet. After all, slave pops can't rebel right now.
>>337813406
You shouldn't need to retrofit. Either you're strong enough to beat them or you shouldn't be declaring war.
>>337813269

>>337813747

>>337814646
It's really just population control as in they won't generate more pops.
What exactly does making a sector do and why do people think the ai for them is bad?
What's up with the precursor quests? I got 5 artifacts out of 6, explored half of the galaxy by this point and there's no signs of any more of those Cybran fuckers. I think the research that lets you see scan results of other players fucks it up - if the system where that anomaly was supposed to be gets researched by AI you are out of luck.

Planets in sector don't count towards your planet amount.
Frontier outposts in sectors don't cost influence.
Sectors build stations and tile improvements for you, using the minerals they harvest from inside the sector. You get a part of their income, they use the rest to self-improve.
Honestly the AI for it is alright, people just don't give their sectors enough minerals/energy income, so they expand really slowly. They may have some difficulties with removing tile blockers though, which might mean stunted pop growth.

>>337814802
The problem is sectors don't respect strategic resources so if you've got some on a planet and you need to keep a tile undeveloped to harvest it there is no way to stop the AI from developing on it and blocking that strategic resource.
That and they will demolish and rebuild shittier versions of the same building over fallen empire buildings if you allow redevelopment checked.
Those are the only problems I've noticed with the sector AI. Other than that it's fine.
>>337815591
Don't forget they constantly move pops around on a planet, which isn't great if they move a regular science producing pop from a lab and replaces it with a robot.
>>337815013
But their home planet gets revealed only after you finish their quest. I actually did it once, when I was lucky enough to get no close neighbours.
>>337815591
You might be correct. Honestly I haven't checked it out too much, because if you grow large enough, those one or two minerals from building a wrong improvement doesn't really matter.

Yes sometimes planets have strategic resources on tiles.
You probably have a few that you dumped into a sector that you're missing out on because the AI it built over it.
The AI will do it too so unless you go planet by planet checking every tile sometimes it's hard to know.
>>337816090
I have never seen a planet have strategic resources on the undeveloped surface tiles, post a screenshot of one please.
>>337816090
honestly most strategic ressources as pointless anyway. Betharian stone is alright, but you really only need the ones that upgrade your ships. The one that gives empire-wide ethics divergence reduction is fine too, but that's obviously a bug.

No, the game is boring. Multiplayer doesn't save it. Wait AT LEAST for the free updates before even considering buying.
>>337821186
As far as I figure you just play it without pausing on normal speed, bumping it up if everybody agrees they're just waiting on things to happen.
Only the host can control time, It's pretty fun though; plays more like an RTS in my opinion.
>>337821186
Only host can change time speed. Everyone can stop and start time. Everything else is normal. If you want to try it out reply and i'll link my account (Arrrr!)

You pray that you get shields, 5 minutes after you get them you get bumrushed by corvettes with torps. Rock-paper-scissors approach to find doesn't work with randomised tech that well. RNG on starting systems can also fuck up your game. Multiplayer is fun if you are playing it like a co-op with friends, but in ffa it's just too much RNG. Maybe modders will fix it with balanced starting systems and guaranteed fleet tech.

>>337823713
idk
>>337824226
I can't force myself to finish a game. Shit's so fucking boring in the mid game, there's literally nothing to do, I look at the research screen with fastest speed turned on and wait until something happens.

>trying to get 40% of the planets

Is there a console command to increase my number of core worlds, or does it have to be done through mods only?
>>337823713
No. The game becomes incredibly dull after the early game exploration
>Very few diplomatic and trade options
>No mid-game events
>Empire manage is super simplistic, its impossible to go bankrupt unless you deliberately choose to do so.
>Your alien race matters surprisingly little
>Game becomes a micromanagement hell in late game. Spamming colonies and building upgrades is all you'll do during mid-late game.
>Super passive AI, on 30 hours I've had AI declare war on me only once and even that was against one of my vassals.
So in the end, plays and feels like a unfinished product so save your money. Pirate the DLCs when they've actually finished the game.

I've given up. I don't want to have to make sectors for the retard AI to control them so I can settle more planets.

PURGE ENSLAVE OR CONQUER FUCK THEM ALL
Okay so what the fuck?
This planet has droids on it, they're not from some empire as far as I know, the star system they're in was empty, hence why I moved my fleets in and began expanding into it, So its thoroughly in my territory now. I cannot colonize this planet because its apparently not mine? but I can't land the armies on it to try invade it and take it from the droids on it because its not my colony?
I'm assuming these are space fairing native droids who have yet to ascend or whatever, so why can't I invade and enslave them all?
Am I missing the right button or is this a glitch? Can I seriously not invade this planet or colonize it?

>event happens
>planet asks to be integrated into my glorious empire
>description literally says people are celebrating and rejoicing
>check out planet pops afterwards
>-25% happiness: Recently conquered
>>337825886
Retarded devs I assume, that's a blanket reduction to happiness that applies to every "conquered" pop.
>>337825695
The sectors are so fucking dumb and an obvious afterthought its not even funny, like what's the point of even having a limit on them if that limit grows everytime you colonize a planet?
>>337825871
Guess I should have pirated first. Guess the claim it's "spam colonies and claim everything and make the AI build" is true.
Ah well.
>>337826012
Man this sucks. At least it doesn't matter since they're gonna get enslaved.
What actually happens when you enslave them? The game doesn't explain it very well besides saying they'll be unhappy and can't be used for science.
>>337825886
Did the same for me. I ended up just giving them independence as a Vassal.
>>337825695
There's a mod that lets you manage 999 planets as cores. It's called: - All your planets are belong to you

>>337826579

>>337825695
I like the idea of sectors, but they have a lot of flaws:
AI can't use special resources
You can build things manually in their spaceports but there's no quick way to navigate the sector planets you own
The building AI is retarded
They can't upgrade the capital building on the planet so you'll be locked out of higher upgrades on your regular building unless you fully upgrade the capital before sectoring it off
>>337826271
>How afraid should I be of the anti-slavery/purging fallen empire blob?
I'm not sure if the diplomacy malus scales with the amount of total slaves you have, but I managed to keep Enigmatic Observers Fallen Empire at +110 with an embassy. My empire has legalized xeno slavery and most planets are automated through sectors.

I know in the past I've seen modders trawling for ideas for traits and shit, thought I'd toss a few out I'd thought of while playing.
>High Mutability (1)
>Every time a new Population spawns, there is a chance it will spawn with slightly different traits. These can be positive or negative. The High Mutability trait will not disappear.
>Psychic Gestault (4)
>Ethics Divergence -40%
>Exceptional Leaders (2)
>Leaders Spawn with an additional trait
>Adaptable Leaders (2)
>Leaders have increased chance (double?) to gain traits
>Twice as bright, half as long(???)

You don't have to.
You can actually just purge all your native pops and build synths in their place. Once you have synth rights and allow synth leadership you'll even get synths as generals and governors and shit.
this game seems to be getting a ton of love but why? honest question.
>>337826728
That's a general issue with the entire game. After the initial exploration phase, borders being set in stone and becoming the local major power you have nothing to do apart from blobbing more, which can only be done through repeating wars over and over again in order to slowly get new planets or idle for a total of fucking 60 years for every empire you vassalize.
Unless you happen to get an universe wide invasion crisis there's no endgame content.
>>337827168
Stellaris is basically a more accessible and shinier version of Distant Worlds with less content. You won't find anything in Stellaris that can't already be found in Distant Worlds.

iktfb. I thought IGN was just casuals, but this game does reach a point where you're just waiting for techs to upgrade until you hit the shitty incrementals, and then you're just waiting for a crisis that your 50k doomstack completely fucks over. There's no real diplomacy nor any way to win other than steamrolling until it becomes too tedious. I know this is a grand strategy, but I wish there was a tech or cultural victory. Maybe something like "x% of the pops in the universe are your starting pop or derived from it"

The biggest problem with Stellaris is how roleplaying elements wise it feels like a straight downgrade to Paradox' previous games (events are very rare after the initial exploration phase), whereas compared to other space 4X it doesn't have enough unique or fun gameplay mechanics that make it stand out either.
>Maybe something like "x% of the pops in the universe are your starting pop or derived from it"
Distant Worlds: Universe handled victory like this. There were % based victory conditions, with total controlled territory, total population, total galaxy economy and race specific victory conditions contributing to your total victory percentage. You could set how much nearing each victory condition contributed towards game victory in the game starting options, plus an optional story victory condition that worked like the galactic invasion crisis mechanic in Stellaris.

>>337804367
I make cores out of valuable planets, dropping off shittier ones as I colonize. Most habitable/gaia planets with 20-25 tiles and preferably with a few positive modifiers.
>>337834041
There is no endgame content in Stellaris. Once the initial exploration and learning phase wears off there's near to zero random roleplaying events, domestic politics are laughably shallow, meaning there's nothing to do but expand through military (even if you're playing "pacifists") and militaristic expansion in itself is extremely slow due to how limited warscore and political integration of vassals work.
>>337804406
I played a cthulhu race, got a hundred years in and things were looking extremely good. I destroyed a fallen empire, genociding the fungal scum from all their ring worlds. >>337834240
no. the DLC can't save it, just like it couldn't save EU4. both games have the weird shitty design philosophy of basing everything around war, but then trying to limit war as much as possible
