Ok guys, I'm really annoyed right now and think I'm gonna go into a rant about the new doom game. For the sake of simplicity I'm going to divide my argument into 3 sections.
>Part one: Doom, gaming's ugly infancy
The doom IP is a ancient relic, and is not a good fit for the modern gaming scene. Whilst mindless violence and chaos might once have sufficed, most gamers these days have more sophisticated tastes. Over the last few years we've seen the gaming go in bold new directions. No longer is gameplay king, and often takes a backseat to more important things, like narrative and tone. Games like Bioshock Infinite and Farcry 3 are the new Titans of the fps genre, replacing antiquated series' like Doom and Quake.
>Part two: The evolution of the video game
Personally, I believe (and hope) that we're seeing the waning of the fps genre as a whole. Games like 'her story', 'gone home' and 'the witness' have really pushed the boundaries of the medium, and shown what is possible in a game. Looking forward, I'm hoping that more and more AAA companies begin focusing their efforts on making games that tell interesting stories, and address important societal issues, such as race, gender and identity. It irks me some that the shallow, excessively violent experience offered by doom has been receiving the praise it has lately, and reminds that the gaming industry as a whole still has a lot of progress to make.
>Part three: Hope for the future
To reach its true potential, gaming must abandon the hoards of petulant manchildren who cling to the industry like an iron ball and chain, preventing our medium from reaching true greatness. Enough is enough, its time for the gaming press and developers alike to abandon this problematic portion of the gaming community and cater to the more sophisticated among us. The slow change of gaming culture is both satisfying to watch and frustratingly slow. One thing is certain though, gaming culture IS changing.

I agree with you, OP. Over half of today's gaming demographic is made up of women, so it's time for developers to stop pandering to men in their games.
No more male power fantasy games where you run around killing hundreds of people. No more games pandering to sexist men with scantily clad, voluptuous women prancing on screen and being helpless.
We need more plot driven, character focused games like the TellTale games or Gone Home.
At least developers have finally started adding 'Just the Story' difficulty modes to their games. They should realise that most women can't spend all that time it takes to develop the hand-eye-coordination needed to finish games on normal difficulty levels.
