DMC4 had more work done its combat than 3. It had objectively the most complex and versatile combat system in the series with style switching, maybe even out of every video game.

Metal Gear Rising is just as bad. In DMC3 Vergil catches Dante's bullets with a katana whirlwind, in DMC4 trish throws the Sword of Sparta in a cutscene once and does some angelical hopping over baddies. It's not satisfying at all.
In MGR:R Raiden does just about the same tier sutff. The only really good choreography in MGR is when he's fighting Gekko's, and those cutscenes are slim. I think even the Mistral fight is worse than anything I've seen in DMC4:SE.

Vanquish has the best custcene action so far, in terms of action games. No game has come close to that level of intensity and practicality in a long time. The last game I played with choreography that good was Onimusha 3.

Nero hopping on the demons at the start was kind of neat though.

DMC3 was better about this, because stuff from cutscenes was doable in gameplay
Boss cutscenes even had showed tricks how to kill them faster
I swear to God that if that Pachinko shit is the only thing Dante's voice actor was doing moccap for and Capcom doesn't announce anything this E3, I'll be so fucking mad.
