Pokemon has a massive casual audience that will buy it, and Pokken also happens to be a legitimately good fighting game on top of that.
It also has a good amount of content, unlike SFV. It has just as many characters, way more stages, 20+ assists, and pretty robost character customization

Well i guess there's the field mode which is more like Naruto where you strafe and spam projectiles until someone just gives up and takes the hit to end this nightmare, or the pokemon happen to be suicune or chandelure and field mode is the only mode.
Pokken had pokemon going for it, and I'm sure some people bought SFV on PC even though they could buy it on PS4.
SFV still really undersold though, and I hope Capcom learns from their mistakes.

I fucking hate Capcom. I love the fuck out of SFV for unironically having such amazing fighting mechanics that are accessible for scrubs but still allow for high level play, but as a $60 game, the lack of content and shitty servers make it objectively terrible
I bought both games. I've probably touched Pokken for 30 minutes while I have hours upon hours in SFV. Mechanically, it's a fucking masterpiece, but it's overpriced for what you get. I only got it because Amazon used to have the collector's edition for $60 and that was worth getting the Ryu statue alone, but I was genuinely impressed by the game itself

Well they were half right- the game isn't amazing compared to the potential it had and is quickly getting forgotten cause there's no support and barely any community around it.

2 reasons.
1. A lot of 3rd party companies are still butthurt over how Nintendo treated them over 30 years ago.
2. Unlike Sony where only a handful of their first party games are mega sellers. Nintendo's first party games tend to do extremely well, meaning third party games have to compete with Nintendo's games for sales as opposed to be given playing field to dump whatever garbage they produce. And they don't like having to actually make an effort into making good games. Just look at Ubisoft's relationship with Nintendo for the WiiU.

Just thought i'd mention it for those who still don't know where the "Tekken" part of Pokken comes from. It's during the phase switches when the perspective switches from 3D Naruto/DBZ style into the 2D Streetfighter/Tekken style.
