Bayonetta 2 and Splatoon are the only things I'm genuinely disappointed in not being able to experience.

Pokken Tournament is the only other thing that looks like it'd really appeal to me.

I COULD buy Wonderful 101 and Super Mario 3d world if they were dirt cheap, but that's just me trying to justify a purchase of a shit console Nintendo is about to abandon. So I'll pass.

>>
Isn't Cemu the emulator where everything is kinda fucked up and slap-dash, and also guaranteed to end up like a shitshow?
>>
>>337748059
Fucking excuse me? You do understand that perfect emulation does not mean the game is running at a playable framerate right? Perfect emulation means that the game is being ran, rendered, and functions exactly the same as the console does.

This video does not have proper fucking lighting for fuck's sake. Tons of lighting elements are not functional, it appears to be missing a lot of post processing filtering effects, there are tons of audio issues which is probably some weird looping bug, the framerate is not consistent at all, this is FAR from perfect emulation. It's PLAYABLE emulation, but that is not the same thing in the slightest.

>>337747620
As someone who owns a gaming PC, a PS4, and a Wii U, not even I want to play Wii U games. I can't even remember the last time I booted it up.

I own a Wii U but people don't want to buy a whole console just to play 1-2 exclusives. And they certainly don't want to pay $40-$60 per game that might otherwise be trash when they can be played for free. Especially when it's a console that isn't getting too many games anymore. I don't see why this is so hard for people to grasp.

Then again it's not suprising from someone who mindlessly defends a corporation on the internet.
>>
>>337748671

This. Same architecture pretty much, it was only a matter of trying to emulate the new hardware.

>>
>>337748712
x1 and ps4 are newer than the wiiu so have had less time for people to work on them, they are also more powerful so any emulator would run really bad

I imagine they will be emulated in the future considering how standard their hardware is
They probably need to be hacked first
>>
>>337748712
the ps3/ps4/xbone are not easy to emulate, especially the ps3
the architecture is well documented but it isn't easy to just emulate when you have little to no foundation
the wii u uses a similar architecture to the wii and GC so it's easier to understand and do

>or was the wii u just a more powerful wii?
It is, for a reason you can do all the same shit you can do on the Wii.

Only the GPU changed, now you cant output 240p and can output 1080p.
Everything else, pretty much the same.

But we got Wii U emulation this easy because there is a good amount of documentation of the console, not a lot but enough to make a good emulator out it.

Once it gets fully hacked and well documented we will have another Dolphin tier emulator.
The reason Wii/GC emulation is so great is because there is a huge amount of documentation of how the console works.

>>337749604
It doesn't use any existing code from Nintendo, it doesn't use Nintendo hardware, literally nothing about it is stolen or illegal. By definition the act of creating an emulator itself is not illegal, owning an emulator is not illegal, because the piece of emulation software is not breaking the law. You are only breaking the law when you download a video game you do not own.

How Nintendo feels about emulators is completely irrelevant to actual law. Nintendo is very averse to tons of things that are not illegal in the slightest like speedruns.
>>
>>337749761
>one track on one mode almost perfect
>every other track and mode is at square fucking one, because that's how software works, right?
>>
>>337749292
God you're fucking retarded. This is far from perfect. Look at the missing lighting, stuttering framerates and beeping audio. Pull your head out of your ass.
>>
Unrelated but still pretty cool.

MGS3 now emulates the bloom perfectly in hardware mode so with the 60fps patch it's the definitive way to play the game.

Ico now emulates the fog in hardware more so it's also the definitive way to play the game.

Okami emulates the rice filter too but the HD Remaster of the game looks better still, unless you really like the original rice filter.

Just enable partial CRC with OpenGL hardware mode and the half-pixel offset in hardware hacks using a newer git of pcsx2.

PS2 emulation is almost finished!
>Jak and Daxter/Ratchet and Clank never

This. So much this.

Though on the other side of the coin, I don't see the point in rubbing it in the faces of people who own legitimate copies of the hardware and games.

More people can enjoy the games without feeling honor-bound to fling shit at them just because they happened to disagree with the developers and publishers who made them, and the games can be passed down to posterity without having to worry about the march of technology rendering them unplayable.

It's a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know the specifics about CEMU specifically, but Dolphin in its current state does not use any code from Nintendo so that would be between CEMU and Dolphin, Nintendo wouldn't have legal rights or ownership over either.

At one point Dolphin DID require a component from the Wii to do proper HLE audio, but it was not packaged with the emulator, it required you to rip the file from your own console (or find it online, which was illegal in the same way that downloading games is illegal). More recently though the HLE audio in Dolphin has been rewritten and no longer requires Nintendo code.

PS3 no, Cell CPU is almost impossible to emulate.
PS4 and Xbox? yes, but since the consoles arent hacked yet almost nobody knows how the console works, so you cant create a emulator for the games.

Not really, you just need to be good at reverse engineering.

You disable the console security and search how the console works, what memory addresses are used and when they are used and by what, what hardware is it using and how it works, how does the console OS works, etc.

Check this site for example: it has some information about how the Wii works (Not all of it) http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Main_Page

>>337749946
It would have to be (leaked) white papers on the actual software/hardware from a design perspective.

Think of a video game console's parts as being [sealed box filled with levers and gears]

You have to rebuild each part out of gears in such a way that it does the same thing, but you don't know exactly how it works. You can plug numbers in, and see what numbers come out, and maybe deduce the inner workings that way, but it's tough. Or you can get lucky and find a schematic that details exactly how it's built.

Half the challenge with emulators is finding a way to REwrite what the actual CORRECT code is so that it works using PC hardware rather than the console's integrated hardware, which is hard enough when you know exactly how the processes work. When you have no idea how they work, you'd be lucky to get something that yields results AT ALL, never mind one that manages usable performance.

Yeah PCSX2 is a speedhack based clusterfuck but what makes you think PS3/360 emulators won't be?
With CPUs not getting any stronger these days you pretty much won't be able to emulate any game with actual accuracy.

Unless some madman leaks all documentation for the PS3 you will have to bruteforce it and that is never computationally cheap.

No... modern NES, SNES, etc emulators are "almost perfect" but still not quite. This is nowhere close to being "almost perfect". It's impressive, and a huge step toward a playable emu, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
>>
>>337752692
We will never have "perfect" emulation of any kind until we can accurately simulate all the low-level circuitry of the original hardware in software.
>>
>>337751936
Who cares. It's making great progress. More than likely they are using stolen code, but that's why you close the source code, get the emulator to a usable state, and then get it ready to go open source by re-engineering all the proprietary shit

PC can emulate most consoles, can play PC exclusives, and play most multiplatform games at playable frame rates.

The Wii U has like 4 games(will be emulated soon) and the PS4 has like... 3 games.

It's nice seeing the game smooth, for years I was playing with the game rendered at 133% speed so it was closer to 60fps than the 20fps the game runs at during boss fights. It worked alright since the game ran slow to begin with, speeding it up to this extent is very playable.

SOTC actually has issues with high fps though(remaster included), itmakes you lose stamina faster which can be debilitating in the speed mode.

Instead of spending $2500 on a PC just to emulate a last gen console and allowing 3 generations of emulators to tax your cpu

Why not just buy the wiiu console for $250 - is fully pirateable, can emulate gamecube, wii games on it's own

Then buy a PS4 for $300 to play Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Gundam Breaker 3, Gravity Rush, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh etc

Then buy a PS3 for $200 to play Metal Gear Solid 4, Nier Replicant, Catherine, Ni No Kuni, Gran Turismo 6, Red Redemption, Eternal Sonata, Ico and SOTC that's playable and multiple other games which can emulate PS2/1 and psp on it's own?

Then buy a vita to play :

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
Zero Time Dilemma
Toukiden 2
Yomawari: Night Alone
Dragon Quest 7 3DS
God Eater

It's like PC users literally do everything in their power to choose the hardest route to play the least amount of games meanwhile I am swimming in games because I didn't choose to subscribe to PCMR.

The funny thing is I literally spend less money than people who built beefy PC's to emulate this stuff and end up with more games, and their PC's will last a fraction of the time consoles will because they play games at full speed for 10+ years.

$2500 - PC - Play multiplats, indie games and poorly emulate wiiu
$750 - PS3/WIIU/PS4 - Emulate literally every console PC can with in-built emulators and play all the same shitty multiplats yet has a far better range of exclusives.

Well now you lost. Your are not making a 1:1 copy of YOUR game, you're downloading a 1:1 copy from someone else.

Don't know how it's in the US, but in Germany you're allowed to make a 1:1 copy of your media, as long as you don't have to break or circumvent the copy protection.
Which is a farce either way, because many modern DRM systems block even 1:1 copies.

>$2500

That's overkill for emulation. Where did 2500$ came from? Some sperglord posetd it and you, without thinking (as usual for /v/ fag) just went ahead with it?

You don't need 2500$ PC. You won't even need powerful GPu for that since 90% of the time you are limited by CPU. All you need to do is invest into good CPU and the rest can be moderately mediocre, like:

1. you don't need 32GB RAM, 16-8 will be enough.

Not counting the cost of my old-ass monitor, keyboard, and speakers (that I already owned), I spent under $800 on a PC I built five years ago. Five years ago. Haven't updated anything, except a new BD drive which is unrelated to gaming. It didn't play the newest games at the highest settings back then and certainly not now, but I've yet to encounter a single modern game I can't run smoothly when I scale back the graphics a bit. Dolphin and PCSX2 still run great as well.

Yeah pretty much, it's stupid alright. But that's how it is. It has to be your personal copy, anything else is copyright infringement.

Okay, since people are talking about piracy and shit I guess it's a good time to ask a question.

So if I legally bought a PS2 game but played it using an emulator rather than the original console, would that count as piracy?

Yeah sure, but the people who document all the fine/specific details are typically emudevs.
A decent exception was PSP, there was a bunch of people doing all sorts of things with that (some even started making an opensource firmware), though jPCSP devs did do a lot too. That was the reason PPSSPP happened, making an emulator is mostly figuring out what the system does, once that's documented it's fairly straightforward.

Most emulated games play better than the original hardware if only because of shorter loading times. That's one of the huge benefits of emulation that's often overlooked.

The fact you can press 2 buttons and play rather instantly is also great, and you can play them on a laptop if you have one and you're out and about.

On top of that, once the generation is over and new consoles come out; you now have to go find space to store the old ones in, to free up space in your living room for newer hardware.

Whereas on PC, everything being digital, takes up space within the span of your case. You can buy and install 10,000 games and it would take up no more room physically than if you would have bought one. The issue isn't distance, and unfortunately with the 3MB image limit on /v/, I can't directly illustrate it to you. So it'll have to be by links.

Here's Xenoblade X at native WiiU resolution: http://assets.vg247.com/current//2015/02/xenoblade_chronicles_x-7.jpg

And here's what Xenoblade X will look like on a 8K TV: http://ultraimg.com/images/xenoblade_chronicles_x-7.jpg

Because if and when you plug your WiiU into an 8K TV, the TV will natively upscale the output image from 720p to 8K.

With an emulator (on PC), you can force the game to natively render at any resolution you want, but with the WiiU you're at the mercy of the console's limitations.

People should really stop using 'emulators' and 'perfect' together in the same sentence, and instead use 'transparent' or something to that effect.
It could be argued DICE (a circuit accurate Pong and other Gen 1 emulator) isn't 'perfect', even though what it outputs is indistinguishable to what a real system would.
bsnes, and many other gen 4 and under systems, have totally identical audio/visual output compared the real thing.

this whole idea that emulation will be superior to the wii u in less than a year is misguided. It's made some some amazing progress but when it comes to the little shit like audio working, random crashing, stuttering, maps, custcenes, ect it's going to be a long while til it's ironed out.

plus there is the issue of needing something to use as a gamepad with gyrocontrols which adds another dimension.

Actually, most 2D system emulators output games in a pixel and timming perfect fashion to the real deal on every game released.
It's what i will call "tosec perfect".
The part where they fail is when you try to use em to write a new game for the system, because while they will do everything the commercial games did right, everything else is up to chance, and those emulators may even allow you to do things that can damage the real system without any consequences or warnings.
Nestopia and bsnes (on the slowass mode) are probably good enough to avoid those scenarios, but something like visualboy advance or UAE will not be 100% useful.

You know PS4 is next, right?
The dependence on shaders for graphics made those systems much easier to emulate than the older generations, where you had those alien GPUs that required all sorts of recompilators and translation etc..
Now all you have to do is translate the CPU code to the host CPU (which is actually not even a work for the PS4), capture the shaders before they reach the compiler, compile it to your native video card and bob's your uncle.

Even the original Xbox was harder because games used a lot of shader asm back then.

The only excuse would be if a console could be emulated when it's still popular. But that never happens. Wii U is dead.

No it doesn't. PCSX2 can play on official Sony's servers that are still up. Dolphin could play on official Nintendo servers when they were still up. Not only that but for any new homebrew server that started for a system could also work and be crossed played with hacked consoles - like AltWFC on Dolphin.

I don't think you understand definition of "hosting a dedicated server for netplay".

It should be 24/7
It should handle as much players as software allows
it should have the lowest possible latency which most of the home PC never have unless GoogleFiber (they still will be shit if you are from across the continent tho because distance fuck it)
it should have pretty bulky stream capacity as well to handle all the data

Sure you can "host" a "server" on a your shitty pre-built alienware toaster (you could do that in 1998 with HL1) but i's performance will br laughable compare to actual dedicated server

Also i downloaded the version 3.0 of the nintendo AGB SDK and they don't mention any form of AGB emulator or way to display the system's picture on PC like that.
All you got there is an "emulator" that is a physical system you connect with an SCSI cable.
Except from the doc:
4. Now set up the hardware.
Have the following items ready.
-IS-AGB-EMULATOR (or DEBUGGER or CHARACTER or ANIMEVIEWER, etc.)
{The hardware for which the AGB is set up will be indicated by a checkmark

-SCSI cable (purchase separately)

How can you guys even remotely enjoy this shitty console war discussion? Time to filter all of you faggots out.

In case you're wondering, this is an IS-AGB-EMULATOR

A videoplayer that plays rerecorded video?
To illustrate point he didn't have to use emulator at all in that segment.

>>337784670
>There are a very, very limited number of softwares that can run gameboy advance games, and even less that have this exact window configuration.
As I said I don't see it is an emulator running a game.
I see what looks like the Window's window and I see the gameplay video output in it.
Is it emulator? or videoplayer with specifically recorded part of the game relevant to that part of the documentary so the speaker can make a point he want?

We just don't know!

You are being autistic and trying too hard to make it what you want it to be. I know, i did that myself in many cases
>>

>A videoplayer that plays rerecorded video?
You can download all the video players released before 2003 and none will have the same amount of menu options and the same shapes as that picture
VBA can play pre-recorded input videos so it might be that too
>>
>>337785031
I don't see anything that points to that being a video player, also i don't think you could easily capture GBA video given the tools they have.
The best bet would be a PC Port, but the video is clearly glitching (probably on purpose to determine where the code halted scanline wise as a marker of how much of the CPU is being used) in a per scanline basis which is not a thing on PC software.
>>
>>337785236
Just for the record - I'm not saying it can't be VBA, I'm just saying there is no clear proof (no pun intended) of it.
>>
I'm honestly more interested in the 3DS emulator
>>
>>337784930
what does it emulate?
>>
>>337785460
A GB or GBA cartridge.
You connect it to PC, run the development software, it uploads to the GBA and bob's your uncle, the data is sent and GBA boots it and this is how you test it.
It probably can also get debug data sent by the game/bios and break at certain memory addresses set by the developer.
>>
These threads are always cancer
>>
>>337785361
Well yes, we can't indeed affirm that is a 100% hard dalek proof, even if its very, very unlikely that its anything else.
But you gotta be very naive to not at least suspect that several developers used emulators along with the official nintendo devkit, given how easier and cheaper it was.

To get that footage he did without an emulator, he would have to spend weeks to simulate the multiple layer, sprite based system of the GBA system to reassemble that on a PC screen, due the fact the system don't actually have a bitmapped frame buffer to capture.

>>337747420
Okay so
>to run it at 60fps, you need a really good computer
>a custom build that can run this sort of game is ~$1000 last I heard, I am likely completely off nowadays
>Wii U: $300
>Xbone: $500
>PS4: $400
This means for ~$1000 and the risk of being caught pirating modern games, you can have the library of a $300 console, and many of the Multiplats on $500 and $400 consoles via steam.
You can effectively get a Wii U and a PS4 for $300 cheaper and all you'd miss out on are Bone and tech-intensive PC exclusives.
I mean I'm not one for console wars or judging how people spend their money, but I don't get the appeal of Wii U emulation at this point in time
>>
>>337786060
Right now is not worth anything indeed.
but 2 years from now, it will be a lot more appealing, and 20 years from now will be the only choice unless you're willing to give a fuckton of cash for some scalper kid and have to open the system to replace the drive rubber that will be long gone.

That is technically illegal, you know that, right?
Emulator is free but the license it is release under forbid it's usage in commercial stuff.

Nobody here is seriously considering using WiiU emulation as it is now, it's made remarkable progress in such a short time so it shows that it may become worth using in the near future.
>You can effectively get a Wii U and a PS4 for $300 cheaper
except you're leaving out that you'd have to shell out at least 30-something bucks for each of these games, and that's being generous.
>and the risk of being caught pirating modern games
literally nothing happens to people who pirate games, even in the extremely rare case where they get caught. It's the people who distribute pirated games that companies are concerned about.
>>
>>337786236
It uses the GPL license which forbids you to distribute a modified version of the emulator without giving the original authors the credits and publish the altered source code.
And this game uses no part of the visual boy advance code whatsoever.
>>
>>337786268
>with 100% performance
Yeah, right, more like with 40% performance compared to what will be possible with emulation. Later, yes. I don't mind. I have plenty of games backlogged.
>MK8
Kek, not even planning to touch this garbage.

fair point

Did not know this but I'm willing to believe it.
>>
>>337786586
>Did not know this but I'm willing to believe it.
it is just reasonable and pragmatic to assume that it makes more sense to cut off snake's head (find distributors) rather than try to sue thousands of random people who play pirated games.

C'mon anon.
>>
>>337786574
That's what GPL2 demands.
If you use the code, you must put the GPL2 license somewhere in the distribution and the name of the authors and original software name.
And if you change the code, you must publish it as well.
Now if you just use the software to develop something else that don't use any part of the code of the software, you don't have to do anything, otherwise any picture you edit with GIMP would have to include the GPL license as well.
>>
>>337786586
>Did not know this but I'm willing to believe it.
Think about it this way, the average person who pirates games is causing, at most, a $60 loss. It's not worth it to go after a person like this because it literally costs more than it's worth.

>PS2 emulation is almost finished!
>Jak and Daxter/Ratchet and Clank never
What exactly is the beef with those games, anyway? Also anons in /v/ & /vg/ Ace Combat threads keep saying the emulation for those games is nightmarish too
>>
>>337787143
Ratchet and clank works fine on hardware mode iirc
Jak and Daxter is just set up in a totally bizzare way, it was an absolute nightmare for the people trying to port it to the ps3.
The guy who originally developed Jak and Daxter literally invented his own coding language just for the game.

Last I checked, rainbow studio games(ATV offroad fury, splashdown) don't work well on emulators either, and shadows don;t render well on Maximo: army of Zin. That's the only problems I can think of as of now.

Asking mr.youtube a bit, looks like software mode fix it, which probably means its our old friend, the "CPU accessing the frame buffer like a madman to do post processing" problem is back from the N64 era.

>What exactly is the beef with those games, anyway?
Remember, Tri-Ace games were considered to be unplayable too for some time...
