Is the Shin Megami Tensei series the only series to properly utilize Abrahamic Mythology?
>>
Can you recommend something to read so I can appreciate SMT more?
>>

The Bible.
>>
>>337746675
Which version is closest to original?
>>
Finally playing SMTIV because a friend lent me his 3DS, loving it, but I just have one question.
Are some of the early game bosses (talking about up to Medusa here) meant to be a case of hoping that the RNG doesn't fuck you over in the first 2 turns until you can cast all your buffs? I've had Medusa seriously get three criticals (so six turns in total) on her first turn and just wipe my team. There's very little I can do with regards with team comp to combat that (though as I write this I realise that I could have used a demon that had Null Shoot. Fuck).

Game gets dramatically better when you finally get to Tokyo though.
>>
>>337747436
I'd say go for KJV.
I doubt anyone got their hands on the "originals".
>>

>>
>>337747707
Yes, it becomes easy as fuck when you get to tokyo
>>
>>337746675
Where actually is all the mythology and wheel angels and shit? All I remember is a lot of shitty stolen fables, a little creation myth, and the whole Moses saga.

REEEE

King James Version is fucking trash as far as "being close to the original texts" is concerned. It translates Gehenna and Hades as "Hell" for fuck's sake

I read the New American Bible (Revised Edition) and the Bible of Jerusalem (French) but I don't know if there are better ones out there. Just avoid KJV if you haven't read the Bible before though.
>>
Definitely not SMTIV, that's for sure.
>>
>>337747786
The originals were lost millenia ago. What we use now is all translated from the Greek translation.

So Greek would be closest if only due to less degrees of separation.

The weird and neat stuff is typically glossed over in church and most people who say they read the bible didnt really, so the fun bits are typically not known.

Like come on, how do you forget the part where a seven eyed lamb opened a scroll heralding the end times?
>>
>>337748221
descriptions of YHWH & angels & the divine come from the prophetic books
some stuff comes from the historical interpretation of Revelation (which is an end-of-the-world interpretation) and from Dante's Inferno (literally a self-insert Catholic fanfiction)
>>
>>337747964
Only fundamentalists believe the bible is the literal word of God. Even most religious people realize a lot of it is allegory

I have only played Persona 3 years ago.

>15 As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.
>16 This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel.
>17 As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about as the creatures went.
>18 Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around.
>19 When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose.
>20 Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
>21 When the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

Literally only because in a modern scientific world it's the only way to protect the religion without it falling into blatantly ludicrous territory

It's literally taking an unfalsifiable position that is impossible to challenge

I could hypothetically go back in time, insert a sonic fanfiction with different names and then today people would just say it's 'meant to be interpreted non literally' and no one would be able to challenge it, it's retarded

>the fucking red sea
>and the ark
>again

fuck
everytime biblical content is talked about in something (like a video game, or a TV show episode) it's always about the same fucking things:
>adam, eve, the snake, the forbidden fruit
>noah's ark
>moses using the force to cut the red sea in half
>solomon being a wise guy

where's all the rest of the hebrew bible? where's the new testament?

the OT is basically just warfare & politics + prophts having traumatizing visions + some poetry & nihilistic philosophy
the NT is Jesus getting killed, Paul getting bullied for preaching Christianity to gentiles, a couple other epistles from early Christians, and then the Apocalypse

there's a lot you could do with these things, why does it have to only be high-profile movies & japanese video games to use the bible's contents besides the couple major bits in the OT

That'd be nice if the idea that the Bible is not an instruction book on the universe was only a recent idea. But it's not, if anything, the idea that the Bible is to be taken literally only won out of the other interpretations relatively recently.

Nigga, I wasn't responding to the post with the article.
But if it means that much to you, then of course there's always one single organism that stops being one species and starts being another.
What it sounds like is that person is searching for the genetic change that ocurred that definitely created the species of humanity, and he's chosen to call that Adam for the same reason people call the Higgs-Boson the God particle.
It would be a very significant scientific accomplishment, but it doesn't contradict any existing theories.
And you seem to be forgetting how evolution works in the first place.
If humans came out of thin air like you seem to have misunderstood, then their genetic code would be far, far different than any other species.
The evidence shows an abundance of genetic evidence that both humans and animals share the same genetic past.

it doesn't, though.
it utilizes an Eastern perspective of a Western religious tradition.
SMT4:A spoilers: turns out YHVH WAS the bad guy all along, with the Great Will being the benevolent creator deity. turns out YHVH was just another demon--one who keeps hijacking the cycle of creation. this is an important plot point in SMT4:A, where all of these gods are fighting to be the one who becomes the creator in the next cycle
>>
>>337753719
It still wouldn't suggest a single man for evolution (it does state man and not organism).

If there was so much evidence, it would be more discussed. Christian scientists aren't biased. They enjoy truth.
>>
>>337746589
Sandman.
>>
>>337754951
But it would.
That's literally how it works, at some point there is a genetic change to a species upon which it is no longer the preceding species, and becomes its own thing.
That necessarily happens in a single organism which then reproduces and creates a continuing population for that species.

It's funny because the response to 'all humans came from a single human' is literally not any different from 'all life came from a single organism.'
No shit, where else would you think they came from?
>If there was so much evidence, it would be more discussed.
You mean how genetics works period?
Because that is how it works.
In order for an organism to exist with its current genetic code, some other organism must have replicated itself or a part of itself in order to create it.

It's really funny how often arguments with creationists over evolution almost always boil down to 'you don't understand how evolution works.'

Let me put it this way: genetics as a science implicitly assumes the validity of evolution.

Also humans are a part of the animal kingdom, which is also a genetic fact.
