Why is this such a common occurrence for vidya sequels?
1 is good but barebones/simple
2 tends to improve things
3 changes things, some for the worse.
the splinter cell series is certainly an exception to this
>>337744154
Daily reminder that this is NOT the case for crash bandicoot and anyone that says otherwise is a memelover scrub.
>>337744154
2>1>3 is the only real fact
>>337744645
Same goes for spyro btw
1. Something new
2. Devs really enjoyed the concept and wanted to improve it
3. Publishers want a third one because the success of 1 and mostly 2
also it's 2>1>3 normally
first game is new. finding their way for settings, characters, story, gameplay.
second game improves upon everything.
third game they realize people will buy anything and include day 1 on disc dlc and spend more time and effort on selling preorders than the game itself.
>dark souls
Hey look, it fits
>>337745275
Low tier bait
1 is neat but has way too little budget to do much.
2 improves on the things people wanted on the first one and gets more time/money on it
3 changes so much it's nothing like the original
>>337744154
doesnt apply to dark souls though, even just counting dark souls and not demons or bloodborne, it's 3>1>2
>>337744154
This is true!Bonk > oldSega Sonic > Mario > newSega Sonic
>>337744154
That literally never happens though.
Name one fucking series where this is the case.
>>337745379
That's not bait it's absolutely correct

>>337746227

Resident Evil
Silent Hill (more like 2>1>3 though)
>>337744154
1>3>2 is the objectively correct answer
This did apply for uncharted but then 4 came out and 4 I think blew 2 out of the water. I like that uncharted 4 has no stupid fucking supernatural shit. Since the last of us team came in it feels so much more refined in terms of gameplay and story.
>>337746543
I think 2 beats 4 by a bit. 4 has way too many scripted parts that make it not as fun to replay like 2
>>337746543
Did uncharted 3 have supernatural shit? I mean the uber strong enemies weren't actually that strong. It was just drake being a lot weaker due to being drugged

The most common order is 2<1<3
1.- Good game
2.- Improved sequel
3.- Signs of milking
>>337746751
Go back and play it, it feels dated.
>>337746994
Yeah it had those flaming gay bullet sponges.
I think 4 is the best uncharted but maybe it is because I think the last of us team are fucking fantastic in pretty much every regard.
>>337746227
don't you mean dead space?
>>337747290
I meant 2>1>3
>>337744154
Cause the real money is made with the second-wave audience. 2 gets bought the most and remembered fondly by more people.
1>3>2

BioShock
2>1>3 is the holy sequence of truth. Quit being a contrarian, op.
This sequence is true for Dark Souls (counting DeS as 1, DaS as 2, DaSII as 3), Metroid Prime, Fable, Mass Effect...I could go on.
>>337748307
>>337748307
The problem is that Infinite is NOT the third game. The real sequence is System Shock, System Shock 2, Bioshock.
>>337744154
>not 2>1>3
>>337748376
2>1>3 is the plebeian opinion
1>2>3 is the correct order if you don't take into account the shiteating masses (applies to all examples you listed)
Is this for the Mass Effect trilogy?
Fits pretty well.
>>337746057
off by 1. mother is 3>1>2
The first instalment of any trilogy is usually a bare-basics shit attempt at a formula that has potential.
The second instalment will be realising that formula's potential and will be better than the first in every way.
The third is just more of the second, but because it isn't as innovative as the second was when compared to the first, it lacks the same ground-breaking reaction from the fans, even if it's just plain better than both the first or second. Thus is the story of every trilogy ever to grace a Sony Console.

Guess the series.
first game was executing the idea and getting off the ground. Also requires building the engine/basics
2nd game builds upon trhe 1st game and refines things. They are able to test and add new ideas without having to build the game from scratch
3rd game , devs are usually stale of the dea/game, and its hard to recreate the quality jump from 1-2

>Silent Hill 2 better than 3
>>337754371
>>337745845
I can see it for the first 3 Yakuza games.
1 was good
2 improved on literaly everything 1 did
3 improves on 2's gameplay, but the story is incredibly lackluster, has some pretty big pacing issues, pushes a lot of good characters from the previous games to the sidelines or in other cases outright remove them from the story entirely, and most of the characters they added just weren't that good.
I prefer 1 a bit over 3 because it has less dumb bullshit and better pacing, but I can see why people prefer 3

The original Spyro trilogy.
Ripto's Rage! was perfect, Year of the Dragon was amazing but just slightly less phenomenal, and Spyro the Dragon was incredible but slightly less good than Year of the Dragon, as the first game of the series.
