A new Quake wouldn't be substantially different from DOOM, at least design-wise. new id's stuff all blends together. At best, you might see more verticality and rocket-jumping.
As for multiplayer, the current DOOM doesn't feel very promising so far. It feels the need to scale things back so people don't get instagibbed, which is the opposite of what it ought to be - fast-paced combat where accuracy matters and staying still is inviting death.
I'd much prefer them to fix Quake Live.

If they don't include a single player mode and make it themselves sure. DOOM's multiplayer is terrible, because it was made by another company, a company that only previously worked on Halo and CoD, so that's how it feels like and it's shit.
