There's really no reason to play past Nightmare, unless you're a tryhard, and the secrets aren't nearly as meaningful as they were in the original games.
I had a good time with it, but it's a lot like TNO's campaign. Good for one playthrough, and then dropped until you have the sudden urge to play it again one day. It's not nearly as replayable as the old games, especially because it doesn't have co-op.
I definitely hope modding can be done outside of SnapMap, because while it's a cool tool, it's extremely limited. I'd love to see a new age of truly custom DOOM content, but given how id isn't going to make mod support outside of SnapMap, and how the game uses Denuvo, I don't see this being a possibility sadly...
I did enjoy my time with it, but I probably won't be playing it again anytime soon. Glad I got it for $35, as I don't think it's worth $60 at all.

It's not as bad in a shooter game. When they did that to Thi4f it was unacceptable, because in stealth games it's very important to let players stand exactly where they want. You shouldn't force the player to step out of a shadow to press a button that's perfectly in reach. In a shooter it's not a problem.

It's literally just a basic unscripted movement that happens to have an animation. It's fully dynamic. You don't "snap" into things. The game analyzes the collider geometry and determines whether you can climb on top of it. Yet again Thi4f is the example of how you can do it wrong. In it, climbing actually is a scripted static system where the player snaps into pre-determined climb-nodes and executes a climbing animation.

Bethesda.
They're fucking stupid, and don't know what makes DOOM good. id was hard at work on the campaign and probably didn't start on the MP yet, so Bethesda probably thought development was going too slowly and outsourced the MP.
They're also probably the reason why the game is named DOOM instead of DOOM 4. Being named DOOM 4 also makes a lot of sense since the game basically takes place after DOOM 2 and even DOOM 3 is canon.

Quake has gotten worse treatment from original id Software. You want to complain about taking a game in the wrong direction? Let's look at the Quake series. The original game was full of magic and gothic architecture. Interdimensional slipgates full of lovecraftian monsters mixed with a blend of high technology. Quake II you were a space marine fighting borglike aliens on a crashlanded planet. It was a completely different game and had no ties to the original except for the logo and some crate textures. If that wasn't insulting enough to fans of the original they added insult to Q3A. Which waved it's ass at fans of both Q1 and Q2 by completely omitting the single player campaign. What really grinds my gears is that you don't want some other developer to touch Quake because when you think of Quake you think of Q3A as a perfect formula that should never be reattempted. Fuck Q3A and competitive multiplayer. I want to go back to rocket jumping horrors in a other worldly demon maze. I want a new Quake 1.

It does what a thousand imps can't do, make you have to worry about your movement. People love circle strafing, but a thousand imps is just like fighting one imp. Just circle strafe mindlessly and you'll never get hit. Since the mancubus fire one at a random angle in addition to one straight at you, now you really have to pay attention to what you're doing. Not just to dodge the individual shot but positioning within the room as well becomes more important.
The new mancubus doesn't do that, and none of the enemies seem to be designed with this mindset. Pinkies are now just another enemy, they're not meant to heard the player into corners where they can't escape. Every enemy in doom had a "thing" about them that they forced you to change your strategy, usually movement wise, in some way. This doom doesn't do that.

They make you move but it's not terribly complex. They're like skaarj with no AI and no health. The real problem with them and the design in general is there's not much you can do with them outside of whatever initial thing you bring to the table. The original simple but distinct niches meant you could create an infinite number of scenarios by mixing and matching enemy types and numbers with level geometry. You can't really do that with these guys.

It was developed as a Doom sequel from the start. The pace is closer to the original Dooms than Doom 3, the monsters are Doom, the aesthetic is Doom.

I rented it and played a good chunk of it yesterday. I enjoyed it a shitload, but I felt the chainsaw was a joke, just a gimmick to make up for the low ammo cap, and the weapons seemed imbalanced. I used the Shotgun with Mastery Explosive Shot exclusively, occasionally flipping over to the Gauss Rifle to take out summoners.
The exploration, I found, was extremely satisfying. Finding the automap, looking for that one unexplored chunk that resembles a WAD map, and then trying to find that tiny fucking lever.

Yes it does. Considering how much they've changed the gameplay and level design, they should try and put some effort into AI. Otherwise you get AI that just runs back and forth all the time whilst sometimes doing slow attacks.

Because it does none of the above that you mentioned? The enemies are slow, they're dumb and the just jump back and forth, the projectiles are slow, the enemy AI shoots walls when it doesn't have to. You can always replenish your health and ammo by executing an enemy. I mean, fuck, what sort of strategy do you even need there? And you can pick up map info which gives you away where the secrets are, in case you ever do need health or ammo, which I doubt.

ive played the campaign both on nightmare and ultra nightmare and dabbled a bit in snapmap.
but i have absolutly no desire to play more. the multiplayer was forgettable and snapmap is way too limited for what doom modding should be.
its basically a glorified halo forge.
i dont even know how this could happen. the campaign wasnt that bad if you account for modern gameplay standards but it was so forgettable and got worse the farther you got in.
the ending was a huge slap in the face too. i wish i could have pirated it instead of buying it for 60 bucks.
there was nothing remarkable about the game too. it wasnt bad per se. but it felt just average. nothing motivates me to want to play more of it.
im sad because it could have been a good game.
