A flawed clunky game, that still manages to be extremely intriguing and have genuine heart to it.

Writing, atmosphere, music, facial animation and voice acting that has arguably not been surpassed even a decade later, and just a solid paced role-playing game (atleast until the end, but even then I think the endgame of VtM:B has better pacing than Deus Ex, which to me gets droll after leaving Paris).
I recommend for a first time player to go Toreador, they are good for the social aspects but have skills that are useful in combat like Presence (good for tough fights early-game) and especially Celerity (which effectively gives you OP bullet-time at high levels). So it's a fairly easy Clan to play and you get a good balance between the social aspects and the combat. The only weakness they have is stealth sections get rough (the museum I hated as a Toreador).

Anyone else. I finish my first game with Toreador, guns works perfectly well and slow-mo forgives bad shooter skills, and last bosses are really hard to fight in melee.
No matter what you choose, you'd probably better to raise combat stuff quickly for better survivability. You may miss some good social stuff, but getting good social early and not dying in process can be too hard unless you know what are you doing. Maybe still raise negotiation or whatever it was called to 2 or 3 to avoid some earlier confrontations.

What build you choose depends on the clan after that, but if you want something safe, you will want to make a melee build and puts points in melee and strength respectively at the start of the game. Persuasion is golden in this game and the king of social skills, so you might want to level that if you want to see very useful dialogue options. Everything else is up to you.

Am I the only one not bothered so much by the sewers? The whole thing was an endurance round, and I was quite scared in some of its parts. But once I was done with the sewers, I felt like nothing could stand in my way, I felt like a mature powerful vampire. If I had the ability to remove the sewers from the game, I wouldn't. Am I crazy?

if you level up celerity too, put the rest into social because combat will be a cakewalk with brujah and melee. You might as well enjoy the more social aspects of the game.

You're right about Nossie for first playthrough.
That said, melee Nossie is probably the most overpowered character in the game... Celerity is super powerful, but it slows down combat overall. If you know what you're doing, fast attacks with katana and potence should make combat last a lot less than with celerity. And then you have animalism, which if you put dots up to level 4, you can spam dot 3 and 4 constantly without blood loss on normal enemies, instantly killing them without having to engage in actual combat. The fastest run I've ever done in combat sections of VTMB are with nossie melee.

you can only max celerity if you have saved experience points from before afaik... Whenever I go Gangrel I never level animalism, Protean is just too awesome. With nossie it's much more fitting and ungodly powerful.

Playing through Antitribu mod right now. It's not bad but it's not great. The new clans and their disciplines are fun but they have done jack shit with them storywise. Some of the new/revamped encounters(outside of Grout's Mansion, fuck them for that) are nice but most of the extra combat they've added to the game is completely pointless since the fighting was never the game's strong suit.

This isn't the best advice. Early game combat is pretty damn easy, just throw a couple of points in melee/unarmed and you're fine. Especially since sucessful persuasion attempts can get you extra XP/money/items.
