Well, mech combat, writing, characters, environments, Shulks time power was much more interesting than Soul Voice, poorly implemented quests (starts getting repetitive early on, even with the main quests), lack of boss fights, terrible music all around, poor multiplayer, constant disconnects, tons of artificial inflation in terms of crafting or even making gems through abysmal drop rates, exploring felt empty and poor after a while, moreso after you can fly, side quests were mandatory which was never the case for Chronicles that had a constant push forward and momentum.
I mean, I know I already brought up the story, but it really is a blight on a game that has nothing going for it other than a basic MMO format of having a HUB city and constantly doing the same 3 quest types constantly with REALLY bad story and characters, while also grinding out affinity or other shitty system.
It's just a mess, and if something like a World of Warcraft expansion has better quest design, you know something went wrong.

No, a game that's "not accessible" would mean its hard to grasp its mechanics or have an issue with any game content. It has none of that, everything is as deep as a puddle, they just make you grind for hours for a piece of customization. Even in regards to whatever "end game" there is, they give you an Ares 90 to one shot most of it.
How do you become "responsible for your own enjoyment"? If the game isn't providing, its the developers fault for making a poor game, not the players. You take issue on how someone should play and enjoy every aspect, while most aspects are poorly implemented and executed.
Failure would imply I didn't complete the game, to which I had no issue doing. Hell even the more story driven side quests were fleeting and shitty, because the supplemental writing was so poorm and the quests had no deviations from everything else you did.
It did exploring right early on, other than that, it was an amalgamation of everything wrong with the MMO genre backed with some of the worst aspects of a typical JRPG.
