I'm on 10.7 and I don't think the most common entry point for getting the homebrew launcher works beyond 10.6 (browser or menuhax? it's in the guide). All the other alternate entry points require games I don't have.

Nope. You can't copy an emunand backup like that. You can, however, backup the saves on the o3DS using a save manager and just restore them onto the n3ds.

chipped off a peace of the "motherboard" part of the 3DS when trying to open it to fix my analog stick. Chipping off that little bit stopped the right bumper from functioning.
I can still play games like planet robobot, but my game library is pretty much limited to platformers that use a d-pad and don't rely on the bumpers.
I know that I can replace the stick if I crack the 3DS open, but I don't know about the whole back part with the fragile green bits.

yes downgrading was patched in 11.0. since you're on 10.7 you only get one shot during the downgrade process. if it fails you'll be forced to update to 11.0 and you're only other shot at hacking it would be hardmods.

theres always a very small chance that you'll get an error during downgrading and be forced to update after, but im talking very very small. the only serious chance you have of failing is if you miss crucial steps during the guide. everything is written out very clearly that definitely shouldn't happen. just take it slow and reread steps if you have to and you'll be fine.
