Are you really that nostalgic for brown and bloom again? Are you really that grimdark faggot /v/ has been making fun of for over a decade?

Solid colors are attractive and easy to design for small art teams. You have no reason to complain about this other than some twisted jealously.

It's the 3D equivalent of 8-bit graphics. It's easy and quick to model and doesn't require a full art team. Asset creation is probably the biggest bottle neck on game production these days, so it's no surprise indie devs often try to economize by having an artstyle that is "iconic" yet doesn't require too much effort.

What the fuck do you guys want from them? If you actually had any knowledge about the development process of games you'd realize that 3D takes forever to make for a small group/one person.
Even these kind of minimalistic style game assets could take months if you're working over 8hrs a day only on the models.

You have no concept how 3d models are made and textured, do you?

There's no "laziness" to picking solid colors and creating those maps. In fact, today it's actually MORE WORK to hand paint textures than to quick gen a more realistic map in Substance Designer or Quixel.

The "lazy" way to making 3d art assets is using off the shelf assets or 0 license objects like MakeHuman. Painting 3d models made from scratch is the opposite of lazy.
