These threads bring to bear a very interesting question: what are the qualities that make you "you"?
On the one hand every character you play as is literally you; their actions, their knowledge, their experiences and their perceptions are in complete alignment with yours. For all intents and purposes they are an instrumentality with which you can exercise your exact will, like an arm.
On the other hand they are not a part of the complete system of one's body; they are separate to the extent they require a non biological, outside medium through which they are controlled. You do not have exclusive access to them, they are limited within the confines of the game and in some instances (cut scenes for example) they do not display a perfect symphonic relationship with you.
