BC2 was pretty successful and it was the 1st game to come out on both consoles and PC (aside from BF2: MC) which blew up for some reason. As a spin-off it was really good, but as BF game it was shit. Most people got into series with BC2 or BF3. Which was meant to compete against MW3 as EA said.
Even during that BF1 announcement stream devs said that lone wolf style is encouraged and you don't have to be a part of your team. The whole series went down the shitter after BC2.

I loved Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare looks pretty cool. Hell, I'd love to see space dogfighting in multiplayer since Battlefront screwed us out of that. BF1 trailer comes out, EA starts with the downvote bots, and EA employees post on twitter / social medias that the BF1 trailer is more popular and better received than the COD one (because of the bots obviously).
Battlefield hardcore fans see an occasion to shit on COD once again, and proceed to dislike.
