To be fair for the therapods featured prominently in the movie like the Tyrannosaurs and the Raptors the animators were able to look at extant therapods, something that animators working on a dragon can't do because they're entirely fictional. Even then they got the hand position wrong

Dino Crisis on PS1 looked almost as realistic to my young eyes back in the day.
