How does this video make you feel /v/?

How does it feel knowing you wasted your parent's hard earned money on nothing?

Who cares about cosmetic only micro-transactions? It isn't required at all. If you choose to its your own prerogative.

Retards buying cases just means I get content updates without putting money in.

>>
>>337565243
>>337565445
There is no alternative. The only other way would be to forcibly take control over it, and decide what the population can and can't do, government tells you what is good for you and what is not. You can say then, well if what they government says I can't do is actually bad for me, it's alright, but it still robs you of the freedom of choice. We have that now, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, this skins shit, and no one can tell you not to do it, and that also means you are responsible for the damage you cause yourself, not the one who distributes your personal drug. Therefore, yes, the way it stands today, it is the fault of the "players", the users. Stating it's "predatory" by companies to maximize profit because some people are stupid is an inane comment and cannot change anything, people must say no and by saying no the company will have to do something else. I don't know of any third way, but as it is these are the two to pick from and there's positives and negatives to both. What >>337565243 said is objectively true.
>>

>>337566076
The entire video was hamfisted and out of place.

You couldn't gather that from the 2spooky music, disembodied voices of people saying nothing relevant, and the forced "I just took an Intro to Humanities class at my local community college" mythology?

The video is so edgy and try-hard I had to squint just to watch it.
>>
>>337566076
The whole thing is laughably pretentious.
It plays creepy background music while having some faglord tell some ominous story about narcissus as if opening a case in csgo is the road to hell. As if spending petty cash on stupid micro transactions is equitable to a fucking crack addiction.
>>

>Crying about streamers/youtubers dropping thousands upon thousands of dollars on case openings

For the $200 they drop on a case opening, they make $500 back in ad rev.

You know this instantly when you see someone like Kootra mentioned in this shit and how after an entire year of no real drops, with an estimated $10k wasted, he still decides to do it week after week. Its the same with Phantoml0rd, he's got more money than you can imagine, and he's spending it to make more.

The issue lies with kids who even after seeing people fail constantly, still want to drop money into a completely chance system. It gets even worse when they're using roulette systems. That has nothing to do with the people making these videos though. Because its not their money, or they've just entered the real world with an addiction to this shit which was allowed by their parents giving them money to buy keys constantly.

No-one said anything was worse. Are you saying that different generations of people don't have substaintially different upbringings and therefore don't think/act differently?
>>337566440
The rise of social media and the fact that cameras are on everything these days, beg to differ.
>>
SO want prevents you people for making shit for the TF2/CSGO workshop and make mad dollars?
>>
No. The one things that killed TF2 is the trading. Not the hat. The hat are nice, cosmetic are nice and welcome into a games like TF2.

Trading killed tf2 because now it's all key / metal, if i want a hat i have to pay metal and not pay with a hat the other side's like because "It has no value on backpack.tf"

i wish Valve destroyed trading by making all hat droppable again and making it so you win a hat if your team has a victory. Not too hard to do, considering how much cosmetic item there is in TF2, it would push people to win for their hat.

Just likes rocket league.

I'm not really sure why anyone would take exception to valve's method of utilizing micro transactions. It is probably the most fair and ethical way to do it.

Their base games are either cheap or free, and without putting any cash shop money in you have the same gameplay experience as anyone else. Buying items can't give you an advantage competitively, so you only have to do it if you want. Valve makes a lot of money from people with disposable income who like buying virtual items, and they get to use a portion of that income on free content updates that all players get to enjoy. If some saudi prince buying 5000 hats is the reason I still get tf2 updates a decade later, then I hardly see what the problem is.

But they have never been good game developers in the first place. You can't call Half-Life a good videogame with a straight face.

They have been and still are good, however, with earning dollars and making clever business decisions. A good Quake mod? Hire creators. Well-balanced Half-Life mod? Hired. Blizzard is shitting on its cool W3 mod? Fuck it, we will hire this designer. Their best games are not theirs per se.

I play CS GO a lot, and TF2 casually and I can tell you millions of people think like this. I've bought a total of one "crate" key in like 3 years which was one too many. Now I sell every drop I get in game + trading cards from games to get money off vidya.

I'll tell someone to try out a cool game on sale for like 3 euro and they'll go "ehhh too much" yet every single week they'll go ahead and buy key after key, continually getting absolutely fuck all and still throwing money at the system. It's unbelievable, people just sit for ages unlocking cases because that's fun to them, people sit on twitch streams watching other people gamble money for textures.

I've always questioned the true value of DLC/microtransactions in general and have come to the conclusion that no one fucking knows what it's worth. No one. At fucking all.

Where some games have microtransactions containing a costume that costs $1 another game would have one for $15 or even $30, or even locked away behind some box gambling bullshit. Valve gun skins and hats are no different here, and the fact that people are more than willing to drop thousands to gamble for something that's truly worth fucking nothing is the reason why it will now always exist.

Why put Halloween themed music, followed by echoed, unknown voices, and a bunch of negative and exaggerated aspects of the topic?

Is it because he knew it wouldn't grab any attention from society? Would it have been too boring?

Every 200 dollars that some retard spends on CS GO keys they make back five times over from donations from retards on Twitch on any given day. This is not news of any kind.

And taking quotes from famous speeches with dramatic music trying to make it look like this horrible practice, and people eating this shit up? That is military-grade autism you've got there.

Skins saved CS:GO, and whether you like it or not the game would be dead without them. I think that CS GO is a piece of shit and even I know that. The ONLY thing he got right in this entire video was that cosmetics ruined the artstyle of TF2, which fucking EVERYBODY KNOWS already.

The same way you think they are stupid for gambling on crates the other normies think game enthusiasts are stupid for buying a bunch of niche games, and those same game enthusiasts think those normies are stupid for buying other vain products.

Hey, at least TF2 has a community since Valve actually acknowledges it and allows it to help with their games. Unlike Blizzard, who sues and bullies anybody who dares try and do anything with their games. Cheaters in Overwatch get permabanned on the first offense, there's no custom servers or mods, no chance for a growing community.

That 9.7 million player bullshit is such nonsense. I ended up with the same people every time, there's no way there was that many people playing.

I should be mad, but not really. I stopped playing online games a long time ago. Valve is basically smart, they know how to make money. The only part that makes me mad is that they stopped making games, but - I haven't had a real fun with a Valve game since the early 00s, so I'm not really mad. Don't ever care about hl3 ever since the hl2 "trilogy". Talking about their games, not the time. I'm not that old, I'm talking about the fact I haven't got a real fun with valve games since cs 1.6. Basically from Source onwards, not my thing. You can hate me all you want, but I was never a fan of Source. Honestly I don't even want hl3 to happen, but sadly - it will happen.

What Valve did is they realized how easy it is to let others do most of the work while you work as little as possible.
You can see this in for example
>create games based on popular mods they can resell or profit from
>make the community create cosmetics you resell while the creators gets a pittance
>hire talented people do develop games, write, etc. for you, do as little work yourself as possible
>make people pay to "support" the game or mod creators with money but where almost all money goes to valve, see dota 2 for example with the compendiums, premium mods, etc

Smart people have been aware of Valve being lazy jews for some time now.

>my serious question is, so what?

The whole point of the video is to be an eye opener.

Because of this business model is really that successful, the next generation of games are going to follow it. Developer focus goes into creating a market for microtransactions, instead of the actual game itself, which was why the video touched on the current state of TF2.
>>

I agree with the 20 tick rate server crap is stupid, but I honestly don't play games to be overly competitive. I play games too have fun with my friends who play them. Tick rate isn't really noticeable unless you need per pixel accurate, and considering most of the characters in this game have massive hitboxes, and only 2 characters in the game require pinpoint accuracy to play, both of which I suck at playing, I don't care that it has a lower tickrate.
If you don't like it just don't play it.

the cellphone industry has started that trend of microtransactions. so the problem is if the WHOLE PC gaming industry shifts to that model.

It's a problem for TF2 and CS:GO, sure, but that's what their economy is working with right now. unless the streamers or people paying for this actually realize the banality of paying 2USD for this, it won't make a dent.

THe prior generations seemed to make the mistake of having children they had no business having just as much as the newer generation

Inviting unwelcome presences into their lives, then neglecting them. And acting surprised when they refuse to allow themselves to be further neglected and focus on themselves is just fucking stupid.

It's literally nation-wide child neglect, from humble beginnings of occasionally ignoring your kid who you don't want to make time for, or interact with.

I literally set out in life to just be left the fuck alone.

It turns out I accidentally fell into a romance from my best friend's kid sister 3 years in the making.

I literally, unintentionally became part of a Netorare relationship, she would come home from dates with dudes for 3 years and imagine me being one of them.

I wanted nothing to do with "love" and "matchmaking" I literally wanted to find a hole somewhere in the corner of the US and go there and be left alone.

I'm now 9 years into a relationship and a father of one.
And I speak from experience when I say I'm one of those narccisist fucks, my parents never gave a damn about me, and the only attention I was given was at the end of a closed fist, a chair leg, belt or a cuff to the ear.

It's a bitch and a half to care about someone else when nobody gave a fuck about you when it mattered.

So I'm not surprised my generation, the ones proceeding me are all becoming narcissist as fuck, it's a oroborosian circle and someone has to make a conscious effort to break the fucking chain..

This is only but one of these likely reasons for this mass of Narcissism.
>>
As much as I agree that buying cosmetics in a video game is really autistic, this is nothing new.

When I still played Maple Story, like 10 years ago or whatever, there were plently of autistic people buying shit in this game even though it doesn't enhance your gaming experience in any meaningful way.

Just buy a goddamn game with that money instead of throwing it at extra potions or fucking knife skins. Steam is filled to the brim with real games.

Another example would be.

A working class couple, you have children you can't easily provide for, so you have to make a dedicated considerable effort to provide for them.

Thereby neglecting them the attention, and connection they may need. You're not really being abusive willingly.

You just made a stupid fucking choice, and now depending on their own intelligence, and development. They'll dedicate more of themselves to the concept of The Self in order to make up for what you couldn't give them.

While the video does touch the vanity of young people, it arguably pays more attention to the decline in video game design.

>There is nothing wrong with microtransaction. A server doesn't host itself.

I don't know when you started playing video games but back in the day players themselves hosted community servers, provided they were given appropriate tools or at least not actively discouraged. The majority of games nowadays rely on P2P hosting - a massive regress as far as gaming quality goes.

Furthermore, as others have stated, that kind of model can be contagious and convince other developers to pursue more lucrative avenues (producing superficial baubles instead of actual content).

Apparently, the day I met what would later become my best friend, and then the saltiest bastard I've ever known.

Was the day I also met the broad I'd eventually have a kid with.

It was a three way split between her, and her 2 other sisters.
One ended up murdered in a cold case, they found her bones out in a fucking field.
Another is a straight up fucking bedroom semen demon.
And the other was a trained classical vocalist.

I fell out of favor with my buddy, and then for some reason he just randomly showed up in my late teens.

From like 17-to-21 this broad dated guys, and literally kept trying to compare them to me, and each one fucking fell short. Horribly, like, her fucking parents failed unilaterally in all the basic tenents you should teach a growing child.

And eventually on my 21st birthday, she watched me get jumped by a bunch of niggers in the hood while visiting family, and the worst I came out of it with was a torn T-shirt and apparently that was the lynch pin.

She fucking jumped by bones that same night I was staying over at her parents place.

Boned her in the shower, and then took her to pound town for 4 hours that night.

I fucked up and fell right into a spiders web. I found out about all this other shit YEARS later when she was talking about how shitty the local guys were, and at work and yammering on about how happy she was she ended up with me.

Every now and then I keep worrying about waking up like this poor bastard.

>>337583172
It's blown out of proportion and I'm not impressed. I truly think this is completely irrelevant. There is MUCH worst degeneracy in our world today thank buying skins, which I don't even consider degenerated in the first place.

And p2p hosting is dead for a reason. If nobody play, there's no online. This aint the 90's anymore. The server must be up and running and for probably half to a whole decade non stop. You need to have people who take care of that and pay for it. The good way of keeping the online alive is like this, with micro transaction.

Spare your replies, that's my idea and you will not change it.

It doesn't make me feel anything other than finding Valve really smart. They were first to introduce trading like that, as in keys for boxes - and it caught on, who would expect that? And so they built on it, made more items, introduced Steam Market - every single minute something is sold, and even if its just people selling stuff on market they get a cut from it. They're making money, doing nothing at the moment. And they won't stop anytime soon.

Let's say you've made a F2P game.
Going by the retard's video the only way to monetize the game is by selling shit that affects gameplay, which leads to P2W bullshit.

Cosmetic items are -LITERALLY- the best way to monetize a game.

Why is this thread still active?
Who even cares about these games other than mouth breathers and streamers which aren't even real humans to begin with.

The video itself is redundant as literally anybody with any proper beginner level education cN understand that gambling digital or not is a fucking retarded thing and that the odds will always be against you. Not to mention this video giving me a very "the truth about iluminati aliens and new world order" conspiracy videos feel. I was expecting Alex Jones to appear in during the shit music.

Epic.
Also, even when it was P2P cosmetics weren't necessarily bad, as it's a way to keep paying the devs to continue development, and not abandon the game in 6 months.

I think P2W systems are infinetely worse than that. Valve seems to be the only company that has come up with a F2P and microtransaction models that aren't cancerous (DOTA2 and CSGO).

Still enjoyed OP's video, even though I disagree with the premise. Going batshit over a in game drop is pretty embarrasing.

It seems most people defending Valve are doing so because they have no problem with the company selling keys to retards as a means of profit. That is a perfectly acceptable opinion for someone who doesn't care about Valve or their products.

If anyone who defends this model also cries somewhere else about HL3 or other shit Valve will never do because they hit the goldmine with these cash grab games; kill yourself.
>>
>>337585532
>they have no problem with the company selling keys to retards as a means of profit. That is a perfectly acceptable opinion for someone who doesn't care about Valve or their products.

Actually it's a perfectly acceptable opinion for someone who doesn't care about retards.

As long as the game is played the same, ie no P2W, who literally cares

Yes. :^)
>>
>>337585658
As I just said, as long as these kind of games and methods bring in more money than games like HL3 would, HL3 will never happen. That was the point in mentioning "care about Valve".

Retards are a non-factor.
>>
>>337585678
You can't expect games like Half Life to be made when these models are so lucrative. It does screw over other people, sorry. This is why you should promote people only paying for things that are actually worthwhile. :)
>>
>>337585532

HL3 wouldn't be profitable either way, normalfags don't like the series. If Valve ever learns to count to three it will been on a set of infected fingers.
>>
so the crates are pretty much worthless right?
>>
>>337585801
Competative games, especially F2P ones are always going to bring in more money than full priced $60 single player games. There was never a universe where HL3 would make more money than Counterstrike.

Retards are THE ONLY factor. Companies exploiting retards is fine until it starts to affect the game itself for everyone else (P2W)
>>
>>337585850

If HL3 ever comes out it will be raped into something more acceptable to the masses, the same way Mirror's Edge was.
>>
>>337572152
Gambling has a chance of you winning and getting a payout. The money you put into it is a "gamble" that could reward you with more money than you started with.

Valve crates and hats and knives don't give you shit except a virtual cosmetic and all the money you put into it goes into Valve's pocket, nowhere else. You don't win any money back* when you sell it on the market or make a trade exchange.

*Barring going outside the system and making an insecure money exchange with someone and then trading your unusual stat track knife-hat with someone.

A casino takes risks of losing money the same as you even if they are allowed to design the rules in favor of the house.

Valve always profits from each and every Market exchange no matter what and has no risk of loss. Their business isn't gambling, it's being a money-holding middleman who have implemented this hat-dropping key-selling skinner box to siphon the pennies you have in your Steam Wallet as well as suck more money out of your bank account.
>>
>quit tf2 in 2011

>come back 2 years later

>still don't own a single hat or strange today

The fuck are you talking about? Only the original Quake mod isn't theirs, they hired on the modders and released Classic, 2 was entirely developed in-house.
