Sins of a solar empire was way more fun to get into, i just wish they had more of a tech tree that diverged so greatly that you could only invest in a couple lines of research.

The most complicated part is when you're fighting late game guys in my opinion. Getting started and initially swole is easy.
>>337564606
Low number of factions is kinda nice, it just doesn't feel right being border to border with like 8 other factions.
What does the ship modifier from refineries actually do?
Does Orillium Plant give ALL my ships +10% Explosive Weapon Damage, or what?
Is it possible to control a planet belonging to a vassal? I want to enslave them but the option is greyed out saying I need to own that planet.
How do?
how do I make a custom name list for my fungoid race.

>>337565847
Vassals are next to pointless. You get nothing but their guaranteed support if you go to war.
>>337565592
Don't kid yourself.
Neither games have great combat compared to Homeworld.
Sins only uses a single CPU core so is 100% guaranteed to turn into a slideshow in late game. Even at mid-game, comvat devolves into massive ship blobs smashing into each other, with victory determined by numbers and fleet composition - just like Stellaris.
>>337566001
What did you do for those 15 hours?
>>337565836

I ended up in an earlygame war with the guys next to me. They had 3 systems, I destroyed one by full bombardment, occupied the other one and the last one was their home world with a fleet about the same size as mine and that space port which is better than my fleet just by itself.
It would have been a major fucking pain, but they unconditionally surrendered and I got their home world just like that.

I'm right next to one, and they're pretty chill with me so far. But since they won't join my federation I'm probably just going to go to war with them.

The top empire is my Military Dictatorship edgy villain empire that I started because my first empire got boring.
The last one is an Enlightened Monarchy and I've barely touched them because they're pussies.
>>337568027
Sauce is "American Style", before anyone asks.
How to get lots of influence?
Choosing Hyperspace FTL then forcing the AI to choose the same is honestly the best way to play.
Adds so much more depth to the defensive play of wars then just using wormholes to jump directly to capital planets.

>>337568209

>>337567475

And when they achieve warp in stellaris they become an empire. The right way to do it would be to invite them to join your federation when they do that.
>>337568398
Only the President can declare wars or other foreign policy.
It rotates every five years and doesn't tell you when it's your turn, you have to check the Federation window in the bottom right.
>>337568547
That'sdumb
>>337568526
Even then, only if they ask. The Prime Directive is based around non-interference in internal affairs; the pre-Warp thing is just a factor of that - since contact with aliens is inherently society altering - not the primary point.
>>337567036
You may have been in a Federation and your ally held the presidency but it later passed to you. The president of a Federation controls all foreign policy and makes all peace deals for all members of the Federation.

I am currently around year 65 and I have 5 core planets and 2 sectors, each containing 2 planets (one of which belonged to a minor power I have conquered). There's plenty of mediocre colonisable planets around and I have around 50 energy/pt income so I can afford spamming colony ships but I am not sure if I should.
Also, should I swap from Indirect Democracy to upgraded Direct Democracy (+ 4 core planets). How overall useful is having 4 more directly controlled planets in the long run?
Oh, finally, how the fuck do I reduce my ethics divergence ffs. I only have a couple of handfuls of my ~100 population still following my ethics, the rest have just gone blank. Sure I can spam edicts, but influence (even at +5/pt) doesn't grow on trees.

Well the generator creates wormholes between systems. So it works both ways. It doesn't throw your ships somewhere, it makes a portal for them to fly through.
I can wipe out an entire species if they're really aggresive even when I'm playing with the xenophile humans right?
My problem is with these purification fetishist lizards. They're pretty primitive with only one system and I wanna get them asap.
Quick question.
Me and my friend are playing a game together.
We are in an alliance with a few AI's.
When I go to declare war on someone, he isn't getting the demands screen, so we can't progress without him going to the screen.
Anyone know where he has to go?
>>337563136
In the 100 years following mankind's ascent to the galactic frontier, humans have known constant peace. Will it last?
Probably not, considering the Mect-Pux Tribes and the Confederacy of Vur Vur both declared me their rival. I should be fine in a defensive war, now that I'm pumping out battleships and allied with the biggest blob in the galaxy.

Yeah, those planets with 12-14 tiles and 60% habitability.
I guess I can limit my pop by reducing food income on planets and issuing immigration edicts. I've been cautious about frontier outposts because they eat up influence real fast - I only use them if I need to secure a few systems from my neighbour.
A quarter of my pops is robotic so there's that as well.
Also

>in fact, le anything xD meme
What's wrong with all you people

am i fucked or can i get by on frontier posts for a little while?
>>337570928
Not defending poorfag but I know many people making close to 6 figures still living paycheck to paycheck.
They just suck huge cocks with money.
Just like my empire in this game does.
>>337571008
frontier posts cost influence + they drain it monthly, you can perhaps sustain 2 of them, not more at the start of the game.
Materialist, Individualist, Xenophile
My gov't type is Plutocratic Oligarchy
I just made my first sector so I have 6 planets total under my control.
I have about 1k military strength but I'm going to boost it significantly soon
I am thinking of making more migration deals with neighbors so I have a more diverse demographic and then colonizing the many low-quality planets in my borders.
>>337570873
So you be saying that when you conquered a bunch of planets, the other races took note of this and became afraid you might conquer them?
Say it ain't so! The AI is learning!
>>337570989
>I've been cautious about frontier outposts because they eat up influence real fast
put them in a sector, it's that simple to abuse
>>337570873
I don't understand why this would be an issue unless you actually were planning on attacking Civlizations 3, 4 and 5 after having conquered Civlizations 1 and 2.
Either way, you are still bitching that the AI is smart enough to figure out that a guy who repeatedly conquers other races will eventually come after them - WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU TRIED TO DO.
>>337570989
put frontier outposts into sectors, this way they wont constantly eat influence. Divergency can't be fought only one way, by being non-democratic with Ministry of -15% Divergency and Commisar of -20% divergency

Honestly, I hate grand strategy games like Europa and Crusader Kings, albeit I only played them for 2 hours each.
I felt utterly confused, like I was looking at a bunch of spreadsheets attached to a 3D version of google earth.
I found it mind numbing and boring to click on small units on a map of Medieval or Renaissance making them move over a tile or whatever and then have a text box pop up telling me, I discovered some natives that want to poke my people to death.
Don't get me wrong, I find parts of human history like the roman era interesting, but the idea of having to re-explore europe and the rest of earth just puts me to sleep.
But for some reason, I don't feel like that at all when I'm playing Stellaris.
Exploring an entire galaxy with tons of planets and different aliens races is far more interesting then happening upon some shit slinging muslim's in Europe.
I feel much more engaged while managing my ships and entire empire across solar systems inside of a massive galaxy.
I adore the fact that this game is easier on the eyes with menus and resources, everything is extremely visual in comparison to other grand strategy games, which makes in 10 times easier to get into and enjoy playing.

>>337571654
Destroy your fleet, this way they have none to follow and attack by themselve
I have a confession to make.
I've been the one responsible for spreading disinfo about sectors. It turns out that they ignore Influence costs to upgrade the planetary administration. I realized last night.
So maybe sectors arn't that bad. They still arn't perfect but at least they can upgrade the town hall.

You have a constructor make a worm hole generator. It creates a circle of travel. You can jump to anywhere in that circle of travel and jump back to the wormhole. Say you have a verticle empire, you could jump to the bottom of it in a flash of an eye
This is offset by the fact that you have to go back to your worm hole generator to jump to a new area. So its really not ideal for agressive play
>Be democracy
>President keeps giving mandates.
>Keep getting a message that she failed the mandate
Do I get punished for this?
>>337571289
Wormhole generators open a wormhole between themselves and a system in its range, then ships fly through them. This means a ship can call up a wormhole from wherever, and arrive at one of your generators.
If both the origin and destination have generators, then they can open a better generator-generator wormhole, which allows super fast travel
>>337571782
I have one sector with like half my empire and apart from having energy issues for like 50 years, it's been doing well enough. I don't see the issue, the AI actually builds somewhat smartly and doesn't waste spaces.

Because this is a 4x game, not grand strat.
Which is probably why i like it less.fuck you casual, you're killing the only dev that makes the games I love
Reminder that the only way to play this game is as :
>Xenophobe
>Militaristic
>Spiritualistic
Human and divine mandate, eventually going into transcendental empire
If you are not playing like this, you are playing it wrong
If I research Sentient AI but have no even droids or robots will AI try to rebel anyway? And also ANY machines are forbidden, since spiritual guys don't like them
>no planning mode
>can't upgrade capitals
>can't set seperate taxes on credits/minerals
>can't make robotic pops at all
>can't exempt certain planets in a multi-colony system
>replaces Fallen Empire buildings even if replacement is off
>outpost exploit
I'm honestly convinced that nobody with an ounce of intelligence bothered their arse to look at the Sector system before release. So much fucking awful design and so many stupid bugs concentrated into a single feature, which is basically fucking mandatory for any half-decently sized empire. I can't even decide if I want to keep playing or not until it's fixed.
>>337571525
That novelty wears of very fast. CK2 and EU are way more engaging and dynamic than Stellaris.
Stellaris get really old and boring REALLY fucking fast, mostly due to it being the most dumbed down paradox game so far. Its on par with civ5 and fucking total war series on empire management.

>>337572080
Which you literally cannot do because it costs way more to expand to get more systems to build mining outpost/research outposts than you get out of fulfilling the mandate.
Democracy influence system is broken. If it gave you like 500 influence then it would be worth it, but not for a measily 80.
I'm going to be frank. I'm bored out of my mind but I've never played a grand strategy game.
The closest I've played is Rome: Total War
Will this game keep me entertained for a couple weeks or should I not even bother?
>>337572221
I am now able to colonize other planets in my core systems, but that would bring me above the core planet limet, so i would need to give them to sectors

you could give every shit to different people in ck2, but in stellaris its all or nothing, really fucking stupid
>>337572268

The thing is, they can't do it in any way properly. For starters, they seem unable to build anything that requires influence so they're limited to the low-tier buildings (being unable to build Planetary Administration and such like).
Even if the build AI was actually capable, it'd be shit mechanic anyway because it takes control away from the player. For example, being able to automate construction ("upgrade all buildings in all systems if you have x resources stockpiled" checkbox) or construct buildings from ledger like in EU3 (probably EU4 as well, although I don't really remember) are some of the mechanics that would have made managing larger empires much more manageable.

So I finish integrating a vassal and my pop and world count more than doubles in size because I had not been expanding very much, just sciencing like a motherfucker. Predictably, my energy count drops like a rock. Part of it is the core worlds penalty which I fix by shoving all 8 of the new worlds into a sector, but part of it is the huge standing fleet the AI had going for whatever reason. Rather than doing the sensible thing and scuttling the fleet, I decide to double down and cover the ~100 energy credit deficit with more production.
After evwntially pulling it off, I get suddenly get an alert about people starving. I go look and see a bunch of my neighbor's pops suddenly filling in the Gaia planet I colonisized right before this shit storm happened. Apparently migration got turned on somehow??? I certainly didn't change the policy manually, and now the fuckers are filling in a couple of my planets. What the hell.

i want to play but i need to study
i learn something new every time i play it. yesterday was frontier outposts which meant i suddenly became rich as fuck, having been used to only having a couple star systems to mine before.
however every time i play i also get 5 new questions which dont even have good answers on the wiki, so its cancels itself out. i got offered a 10 year immigration deal and i guess i understand what it does, but i don't know when its appropriate or why it would be good.
If you just build your fleet larger than everyone else you can do whatever you want really. I've conquered several other empires and purged their entire populations. A couple different alliances declared war on me a few times but I just kill all their ships then invade their homeworlds and they accept peace.
Since my population has no xenos in it my internal politics is limited to sectors wanting independence, but I think that's just because I keep giving them too many planets, so every once in a while I just shift the sector borders around so that most of the planets that were in one are now in another. It seems to keep the pops confused.

So this game is pretty good? Worth a pirate?
Be in Alliance with two like minded "empires" (having 5 planets and about 10 star systems worth of space shouldnt count as that but wth).
Want to own some bitches. Either time I want to make some war on em one of my allies says "Vote NAY". And everytime they want to make some war with some bitches I said OK.
Ok fuck that, then. Leave alliance. And start to own smaller empires. Have 3 vassals now. Some of the "ancient" empires are now equivalent tho this one AI ancient empire is still "overwhelming" even tho I'm nearly pushing 30k fleet power with 250 ships.
Well I guess I need more research weapons and shit.
Vassals become any problem later on or are they just slaves to my cause as they should be those weak faggots?
I think the prethoryn swarm event needs retooling.
>Have largest fleet in galaxy at 50k
>prethoryn swarm spawns on my empire
>has 180k in fleets
>instantly colonizes everything
>no federations are formed, not even alliances

>>337578980
Vassalization helps you keep your population count low for research, but they aren't particularly useful as you don't get any resources from them, don't have colonization access on their territory. You probably crippled them financially in conquering them, and their happiness will be low from being defeated leading to slower development within their own empire. They pretty much stay at pathetic for the rest of the game
>>337579225
Yes, you are supposed to do that. In the early game you should think about cost/benefit though, since normal mines are cheaper, but you don't have enough pop to work all of them. In late game orbital mining stations will be your main source of income while your core planets will work science like motherfuckers.
>>337575048

Also use alt key if anyone havent figured IT out.
>>337579380
>5/5
Make them a sector and wash your hands of the matter
>>337579225
It's 1 energy maintenance to construct a mineral mining station, energy mining stations are free. It is resources you can gather without increasing your population count; so it is generally better to get your resources through stations than by colonizing. Except in the very early game when minerals are tight, you should always build energy mining stations because they run for free.
>>337579641
Also I think buildings give 2 resource per 1 energy so anything in space with more than 2 is a good deal.
>>337578793
Making vassals out of everyone is just too easy.
>Cheat and get some tech done
>Cheat and get some mineral

How many Precursor Races are there?
So far, I've come across 3: one of which was synthetics who tried to wipe away every organic lifeform in the galaxy, another who died due to some plague ravaging the whole galaxy and the third were just some huge-ass aliens who only traveled one or two per ship, and their ships were fucking huge.

war in this game is so fucking clunky and tedious compared to EU4. i know it's not a fair comparison between a new game and one with several expansions, but fuck it, there's still no reason to play stellaris right now

>>337580632
I don't think it's fixable, there is not much depth to be had, the most fun is reading the little events or purging/enslaving
it's the core of the game, there is no trade, diplomacy sucks, combat is click and forget, upgrade your building has usually one choice except for labs, economy is easy as fuck, pops don't matter as much... etc
the most fun thing are the events, robot uprising , seeing all the shit happens when you try to infiltrate a primitive world and take it like in X:COM, discovering the stories planets, finding fallen empires...
but who knows, maybe with a few expansions the game could become more fun
>>337580145
>Always attack
Pointless, game devs hate war. It just makes all other civs declare war on me
>>337580285
Like >>337580263 said, it does take longer to annex because you can only take 3-4 planets at a time, but once they've been ceded to you you can move one of the pops off your homeworld (or another planet where you have nothing but food production to make the pops grow faster) to the new planet. Once you've got one of your pops there it's as simple as clicking the xeno pops then clicking purge>purge all. Or you could just purge them all without having one of your pops there, in which case the colony simply dies off, then you can re-colonize it with a colony ship if you want. The hardest part is when it's a brand new colony that doesn't have a planetary administration building yet, because you can't shift new pops to the planet without the planetary administration, so you can either wait until the xenos have 5 pops on the planet then upgrade the admin building, build synth pops on the planet to get up to 5 (provided you've researched synths), or just purge and re-colonize.
However you do it, the point is to kill off all alien pops so that you don't have to deal with them wanting to declare independence.

>>337582071
You don't need frontier outposts once you've colonized a planet in the system. In fact if you have a frontier outpost in a system with a colonized planet the outpost actively detracts from the borders that colony would otherwise provide. Frontier outposts are just supposed to be a sort of stopgap measure to take territory you intend to colonize later and should be taken down at the first opportunity.
>>337581229
They claim to at least have looked at other 4x games.
>>337582298
I'm pretty sure you can't make any population changes in planets controlled by sectors, so just pull that system out of the sector, make your changes, then put it back in the sector. You'll take an influence hit when you pull the planet out of the sector but that's what you get for not setting the planet up before putting it in the sector in the first place.
Threadly reminder to replace some Hydroponics with research on planets that are full of pops that have excess food production.

All I can say is keep an eye on significantly more powerful empires who seem to dislike you and send Embassies their way for next game. Sucks that you got such a bad start.
Decide to colonize a blaned and then terraform it. See this. Why? Are they gonna be wiped by terraformation?

>attack 1 planet
>get their shit pushed in by a 50k attack power fleet
>they come back and apologize for not wanting to go to war
>i accept their apology and purge them from the face of my planet

>>337583181
Yeah except they're not happy because of diverted ethics, and the ethics are diverted because they're not happy. And on and on it goes.

>>337583740
they are just there to have some claim, think of them as a legit way of saying everyone "this is fucking mine"
that's why they cost so much influence, you are not supposed to use them to paint the galaxy
